New BlazBlue CF character: Es from XBlaze

Of course it's not her, but ArcSys aren't above pandering to a fan base.

I found her super dull in xblaze. Meh.

That would be a real shame, the characters are the dub for me at this point after 3 games even if some have changed ripbangrip, don't think I'd bother then.

I've asked everyone I can think of, from Aksys to Seitz. No comment. Not a good sign at all. Wonder when journalism(lol) will catch up before Aksys quietly releases it.

I found her super dull in xblaze.boring emotionless sbaer ripoff. Meh.

What clods. If they are going to try and copy Arturia's character, atleast get the personality right

I haven't played since Continuum Shift and catching up on the story on the wiki has my head exploding

I kinda started loosing track after Chrono Phantasma, when
alternate timeline Ragna's girlfriend from like a billion years ago when the black beast was around popped up in the current timeline with no explanation

Meh, Blazblue was always anime as hell, but the last 3 characters are "not even trying anymore" anime. Basically remade Ragna, Jin, and Noel but younger and high school style.

Might grab this newest version either way tough, missed the last 4 or so releases. Might be fun.

I'd be so pissed, I mean I'm already pissed about GG but I'd be way more pissed. I wish I could get myself to not buy the game at that point, but I guarantee I still buy it. Will have to buy used or import only then.

GUYS, you are killing me here. Even IF. I repeat. EVEN IF it was designed off of Arturia, it doesn't mean that it literally IS her. Or else French Bread would have been been sued to hell for winking so hard at Type Moon when they made Under Night in Birth Ex Cafe, regardless of their previous connections

Wait I'm confused what point you're trying to make here

Eltnam is very obviously supposed to be Sion. Not even a wink lol.

....still. Yes that is pretty suspect but...

Maybe if Ayako Kawasumi voiced her, i'd be fully convinced.

In any case even if it was true, that's like saying Ayaka was Akiha, or Eltnum was Sion...expy's don't literally mean they are the person.

Yeah Guile isn't Stroheim and Juri isn't Jolyne either. But this character has way more in common with saber than either of those two had with their counterparts and they were still clearly homages.

I mean seriously blue eyed blonde hair in a blue dress with a sword instantly invokes an image of Saber. Slap characters from the Arthurian legends and even Avalon into her special attacks names and you are just making it blatant.

So since we got notRagnaOCdonotsteal from whatever manga he was from and Es from the visual novel, when we getting Mai?
How many more characters must we get before Jubei is finally playable?

I've stopped caring about the plot of BlazBlue considering you needed to read wikis for light novel summaries for characters such as Nine, Terumi and Celica.
Wait no I've read them because I care, I've got anime Stockholm syndrome here.

I'm just saying, this Xblaze girl is clearly not Arturia. She's an expy at most.

Eltnam is an expy of Sion, not literally the character, even though she basically references TM constantly and considers herself Sion, she clearly can't be literally the character or else that would conflict with TM's legal rights, unless of course they got permission to use the character(did they get permission?) in which case there would have been no point to changing her design and censoring references of Melty Blood

Mai is looking likely, considering that she has a new look in Variable Heart (the new upcoming VN) that makes her look distinct, and her weapon has been changed toa spear (something lacking in BB)

So where has Mai even been in BB? Since she's basically a warrior at this point, and this visual novel takes place before BB, during the war, where has she been the whole of BB?

Their making a whole VN around her? Those 3 chapters from chrono were painful enough.

Would rather have her friend playable, the silver hair with hairband chick.

Also that costume looks horrible. And her disembodied looking foot placement in that pic is weird.

they already had a whole VN based around her called remix heart. the CPE chapters were an extension of that. Variable heart is the new one

you mean Kajun (purple hair)

I kindve like the outfit. Its ridiculous but i like it. The foot placement does look weird in the art, like if you stare at it long enough you realize it can make sense, but look away and look back and it looks odd again

I thought it was a sequel manga? Not a Visual novel.
could be a manga, I dont pay much attention to this, I just knew it existed

Damn I thought I never see the day where a BB game releases without an English VO. It was the one game i figured they keep providing dual audio for.

so the whole dub thing post GG has gotten me looking for info every day. They havent said anything which is whats making me nervous. On the flip side They dubbed zero time dilemma (A way riskier game on the sales front) and Exist archive is going to be dubbed, which is a game they could easily have skipped the dub on as its so much lesser known than just about anything.

The only reference to her in Chronophantasma is when Sion et all talk briefly about how they're worried because Mai went missing after graduation.

... and wow her new costume is really bad. As if that huge yellow ribbon of hers was not already all over the place.

Are they trying to save money or something? Why could they do dual audio before but not now? Lack of demand?

Japan tends to be way more relaxed with " hey this character is basically this character".
It isn't chinese, " China don't Care" but japanese games have their fair share of homages that break full well into " This is basically the thing we liked territory".

Arksys made two fighting games who every character is just that.

fortunately I love it. Japan has a willingness to be absurd that the west lacks. Not that I actually want the west to change as there is a lot I love about western design too

I don't think absurdity is the problem, if anything it's the opposite. Designs like that are such blatant, safe pandering to their already established audience. There's nothing risky or absurd there, it's a generic sexy busty woman showing lots of skin. It might be fun, but it's like celebrating the boldness behind a beer commercial or a car show model.

I was only able to put up with a bit of Remix Heart so I don't especially understand the character or know what happened to her, but maybe you could argue her really being a man (?) is a little absurd. I'm not actually sure if I should be calling the character a "her" at all, actually.

BlazBlue's tweaking of anime stereotypes started out fairly amusing. (e.g. Jin is the pretty hero man but actually a broken psychopath, Rachel is a cute little girl who is actually the most mature and world-weary character in the series, Ragna is the badass Sol Badguy-analog who is actually kind of a dorky pushover, and so on.) I like that twisting of expectations, and at least early on I saw some interesting postmodern themes at work. But there's only so much "pandering...but with a twist!" you can manage before you start to lose whatever points for deconstruction you were getting previously. Obviously different people are going to have different levels of tolerance for this -- and a lot of people just want blatant fapbait in all art they consume everywhere -- but for me personally it's getting to be a bit much.

But I assume that Comfort Jones was mostly taking the opportunity to make a funny pun.

Are you serious!?

I've seen some pretty garbage costume design before, but goddamn this one is something else.

I was thinking about saying something in my previous post along the lines of 'at least it's not that guy trapped in a girl's body from that absolutely garbage ecchi manga spinoff that appeared briefly in BBCP:EX', but held back because I know there's a defense force for that stuff (and I'm cool with people liking things I don't). But this? This is too much for me.

I'm cool with Japanese character design being over-the-top and colorful, but when you get a character with her ass hanging out of both the front and side of her pants, you're probably not designing something tasteful.

She's only that way for 2 small chapters before she starts displaying emotions . it's like the whole point of the character.

Damn. It looked like such a typical drive by post that I didn't notice that...
No but it saddens me how normal it is to emphasize the sexual traits of women over anything that would make them look like a tough warrior in a fighting game.

That I can agree on. One of the reasons I liked Millia's redesign in GGXrd.

this is a series that outside of 3 characters, no one has combat strength emphasized (Azrael, Tager, Bang as exceptions). Japan tends to prefer slender people to muscular

I have nothing with against emphasizing sexual traits

Agreed. I want the guy turned girl who licks people to know their thoughts and history. The person whose power of taste allows them to steal abilities. The person who has an assassin poisoner who is loyal to them and a strategist rooming with them.

Play the whole trio and have her ability be Remix Heart where you swap between assists or stealing tools.

The female pronouns are correct. Mai identifies as a heterosexual female by the end of Remix Heart.

Me neither, but it's a little annoying when it's incongruent with the rest of the characterization of a particular character.

Like the Blazblue world isn't a world where everyone dresses like that, and Mai doesn't have a personality where she'd deliberately dress herself in that way. So the reason she's dressed that way becomes pretty obvious

Basically I don't mind emphasizing sexual traits, but I am sort of bothered when I am made painfully aware of the male gaze of a creator and their target audience.

Aaaaand....we have the sluttiest outfit yet! She's in.

Same here. I'm loosing a lot of interest in Blazblue between the terrible fan service characters, long delays, and crazy localization issues.

Does Blazblue really sell more because they put women in bikinis? Wouldn't the sales go down at some point once it basically becomes softcore porn?

Putting girls in semi skimpy outfits does not equal softcore porn. Let's dial it back.

Also, considering Mai, it does kind of make sense considering her backround.
similar to kaine who wore revealing outfits to emphasize her feminine traits and desperation to be considered a woman due to the insults by others because of being a transgender, one could interpret Mai doing the same as coming to terms and fully embracing her sexuality as a woman after being initially confused about her own identity

....you know, the writers are the one who came up with that story, right? If they really didn't want a girl in a skimpy outfit, they didn't need one. And they could just as well put her in a pink dress. Heck, if having her dress and pose sexually like that is the writers' idea of 'embracing femininity,' I think I'm going to leave before everyone else gets wind of it. It would also be rather disgusting.

Also, we're totally not Type Moon here; most of those characters are far too much clothing.
