Apparently there are:

___________400,000,000,000 stars in the Milky way.
There are estimated to be 200 - 400 billion stars in the Milky Way galaxy.
I think the estimate for planets in the Milky Way is currently at least 100 billion. Currently it seems that all star systems in NMS have planets which doesn't appear to be true of our galaxy.
One thing we have no idea of is how many planets there are per galaxy in NMS or indeed how many galaxies there are. Even if there is 'only' 400 billion planets per galaxy that still means the galaxies will be huge and the chances of meeting people quite remote.
