they seriously need to give it a rest with this series or kill the animus, make a AC in asia to refresh the series.

i hope despite GTA5 decimating the competition, FC4 and DAI does very well. cant fucking wait for them to unlock

It's a shame to see two broken games topping the charts. Those two were going to sell no matter what of course, but that doesn't make it any less sad.
Not really a surprise if you look at the too-late launch-day reviews for Unity and bafflingly glowing quantity-over-quality MCC reviews pre-thorough multiplayer testing.

Watch dogs selling much more than Unity probably means that Ubi will make more games in boring and shitty locations, instead of AC's awesome ones...

Eh, while I loved the setting of IV (and probably Rogue if I get my hands on it), I don't see France in Unity being any more interesting than modern day Chicago to be fair.

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
IIRC, if a game has bad word of mouth / awful reviews / major problems, effect on sales will be clear starting from the week after the launch, when these kind of factor are already spread and the launch excitement is over, not right on release week. Or better, not as much as the weeks following the launch. So, there could be something else behind Unity's numbers, not just glitches and bad reiviews.

Although it launched on a Tuesday. Anyone heading down to pick it up for the weekend may have heard already.

Franchise fatigue could very well be part of it.

The question is why is Unity down then?

Is it all down to the reviews? I find it hard to believe it's apathy for Ubisoft style of open world gameplay when Watch Dogs sold so damn well.
Ubisoft bet on the wrong horse, even when the losing side is desperate, it's not a guarantee that bundling with the losing platform holder would be beneficial when the game quality suffers on the more popular platform, the whole release stunk because of the parity controversy. Way too much negative coverage.

I guess I should clarify, my point is that without the bundle it would be worse, going by the strength of the ip it looks like it's probably going to drop off next week.

That's a pretty good guess considering all the new titles being released this week. Damn shame as the game is pretty good but it really doesn't have any mass market appeal.

Assassin's Creed: Unity launch sales aren't bad, at least it managed to be up YoY without the help of old-gen consoles. For example, both FIFA 15 and Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare would be down over last year releases if we only included the next-gen versions.

Having said that, it is also true that the true benchmark for Assassin's Creed: Unity will be its first year sales.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag had a poor launch (142,000 units) due to those that were waiting for the next-gen console versions, but its 2013 sales weren't too far (110,000 units of difference) from its previous title which was Assassin's Creed III. The lack of releases also helped a lot, there wasn't too many titles to choose from.

Assassin's Creed: Unity won't make it into the top 20 entertainment products of 2014 list, so we won't exactly know how big will be the decline. So far things don't look exactly bright at long term. Bad reviews, poor word of mouth, franchise fatigue and a more varied lineup of games than the year before.

Any approximations about how much MCC did?

Between 86,000 and 116,000 units.

In other words, better than Assassin's Creed Unity (PS4) and worse than Watch Dogs (Xbox One).

Halo: The Master Chief Collection’ enters at No3, one place ahead of ‘FIFA 15’ (+2%) which is down 2 places to No4. It is the biggest launch for a Microsoft published Xbox One title and the 7th biggest Xbox One launch by any publisher.

1. Call of Duty: Advance Warfare - 253,000
2. FIFA 15 - 234,000
3. Destiny - 167,000
4. Titanfall - 130,000
5. Watch Dogs - 116,000
-----------------------------------------------
7. Halo: The Master Chief Collection

We're missing one game, it must be FIFA 14.

November 2010 Individual Format Top Ten (90%)

05. [360] Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - 216,000
06. [PS3] Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - 168,000

Total - 384,000 (Weeks 46 and 47)

Ubisoft’s ‘Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood’ (-32%) also falls one place to No3.

Week 46, 2010 - 228,500 / NEW
Week 47, 2010 - 155,500 / 384,000 (-32%)

Code:
[B]Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood - 228,500 (90%) / 254,000 (100%)[/B]

Ubisoft mirror last year’s Assassin’s Creed (Brotherhood) by debuting at No2 in the week after Call of Duty launch, thanks to ‘Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’. Sales of the latest Assassin’s Creed are indeed a Revelation for Ubisoft as the title beats last year’s title in both units (+4%) and revenue (+8%) for week 1, to become the most successful of the franchise and also of any previous Ubisoft release.

Assassin's Creed: Revelations = Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood + 4%

Code:
[B]Assassin's Creed: Revelations - 237,500 (90%) / 264,000 (100%)[/B]

Thanks.

There is also this hint for ACII:
Officially released on Wednesday, ‘Assassin’s Creed III’ becomes Ubisoft’s biggest ever launch title, selling almost double that of ‘Assassin’s Creed II’ and outperforming the publisher’s previous best, last year’s ‘Assassin’s Creed: Revelations’ by over 117,000 units.

Thanks, I checked Assassin's Creed II number again and that 200,000 figure was just for the first week.

November 2010 Individual Format Top Ten (25/10 - 21/11) (90%)

Total - 180,000 (90%) / 200,000 (100%)

We also have the sales of the first title.

Ubisoft have to settle for No2 with new-entry ‘Assassin’s Creed II’ for 360/PS3/DS - the original went straight in at No1 back in week 46, 2007 although the sequel has outperformed the original by around 12% in terms of unit sales

Assassin's Creed - 161,000 (90%) / 179,000 (100%)

Yeah, 2009 was a 53 week year, December a 6 week month, so November period ended relatively early. Still, I'm not sure where the PS3 80k figure came from (maybe misprint in Famitsu, I forget) as it was not in the November Top 10. X360 was with 100k (90%), but Guardian gave splits as 57% / 42% / 1%, which gives a total of 175,00 (90%) going off of X360 number, for a total of 195,000 (100%).

Not surprised about Sunset Overdrive. The bundle is still widely available still in the UK.

From the people I asked about it didn't like the game. The American sense of humour in the game didn't seem to translate well to the UK.

I think the tv ad we got was pretty poor as well. Tries too hard to be funny(badly) and doesn't do a very good job of showing the actual gameplay which is a shame as I think a lot more people might have taken notice of it.

I cant say im surprised. The UK is more dudebro than the US. We have seen this time and time and time again.

It was never going to sell much once CoD came out.

Pretty sure it's still their best selling game in the UK, so it's not all bad news.

And I disagree on this whole 'dudebro' thing.

Seems like a strong debut for MCC, I think it will have some legs.

Sunset Overdrive seems to be falling quickly unfortunately

AC Unity did not due very well which is deserved considering the state it shipped in

They must hate GTA,

GTA's "American" sense of humor which is written and directed by Scots?

If anything GTA is closest to a British view on American culture although it seems fairly satirical

We like GTA because its satirical about US and we can feel superior and act like psychopaths at the same time.

I agree though on the Dude Bro. Shooters and action titles are popular in UK but I doubt it's more Dude Bro than any other market.

The only estimate I remember was between 20K and 76K, and that was a large range.

How much less than 77,627?

No one really knows but estimates were the range you mentioned previously 20K-76K. It sold better than Minecraft Playstation Edition and any individual FIFA SKU.

I think the novelty of 3 being the first game set in America caused an aberrant sales spike.

I don't think that is the reason for PAL countries. Outside of the USA noone cares about the american civil war as a setting. I thought that AC3 could bomb, when they initially revealed the new setting.
There is not much iconic historical architecture to explore - which was a key aspect of AC - IMO. GTA outside of NY, Miami or LA let's do it in historic Jerusalem, Venice and so on.
AC4 didn't follow the initial concept too, but it offered new features and who doesn't like the Caribbean? And you play a Ninja-pirate in a hollyday setting.

As far as I know - I don't have numbers to back it up - the AC series sold better in Europe than in the US in the past. Maybe AC3 was a turning point and made the series more popular in the US, while the established EU fans bought the game. This would prove your point. Do we have sales data that shows the difference?

They must hate GTA

SO humor is not comparable to GTA humor. GTA is mocking the US society that is portrayed in the media. In- and outside of the US. This is why it works everywhere.
The joke in SO is: "Oh we are in a video game - let's get funky!" SO tries to appeal to gamers, GTA to everyone.

Still no numberd comparison between Last of Us remaster and Halo MCC! I is disappoint gaf.

Here's TLoU, fairly solid estimates, numbers courtesy of Bruno MB.

Code:
[Week 01] 01 (NE) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 69,000 / NEW
[Week 02] 01 (01) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 31,050 / 100,050 (-55%)
[Week 03] 01 (01) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 18,630 / 118,680 (-40%)
[Week 04] 02 (01) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 14,159 / 132,839 (-24%)
[Week 05] 03 (02) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 11,185 / 144,024 (-21%)
[Week 06] 04 (03) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 7,829 / 151,852 (-30%)
[Week 07] 05 (04) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 6,576 / 158,428 (-16%)
[Week 08] 09 (05) THE LAST OF US: REMASTERED (SONY COMPUTER ENT.) - 4,800 / 163,228 (-27%)

All we have for Halo MCC is 86k < X < 116k. Maybe we'll get a clearer picture next week.

And I disagree on this whole 'dudebro' thing.

Let me put it another way then.

The UK responds strongest to the biggest blockbuster AAA titles than other markets and doesn't really like stuff that could be classed as niche.

In other markets these titles can find their audience and still be profitable, its much more challenging to do that here.

Even accounting for the Wii Us current performance, Nintendo games that don't have Mario in the title don't tend to do as well here (Wii sports being the obvious exception)

GTA V launched last year and is currently the second most successful video game of all time - a feat it managed in less than a year. However, despite selling almost 4m copies, it has not managed to topple the UK’s current record holder: 2010’s Call of Duty: Black Ops.

MCV understands that GfK Chart-Track will combine the game’s PS4 and Xbox One sales with the PS3 and Xbox 360 SKUs, which means that the title will almost certainly overtake Black Ops to take the crown as the UK’s best-selling title - if not this week, then in the weeks building-up to Christmas.
