PS4 Pro Boost Test Video Compilation Thread

RoboPlato

I'd be in the dick
Thanks to everyone's hard work to pull all this info together.

Also, fascinating to see recent post-Pro games like Yakuza 0 get performance improvements out of this mode. Wouldn't you think their mandatory Pro modes would already cap out the system's capabilities?

Yakuza 0 was released in Japan well before the Pro requirement, it was only localized recently. It doesn't have a Pro mode.

Yakuza 0 released in Japan before PS4 Pro released. So no Pro patches included

Someone mentioned that Yakuza 0 seemed to run too fast at times, including Out Run. Is this not true?
I can't say. Multiple people have tested Yakuza 0, but only one reported this issue. It's early days for now, so this might need to be revisited in the future.

I'm actually very interested in the 3D bluray PSVR feature as well. This might revive my interest in 3D. I'm hoping this may also work with streamed 3D content (via Plex, etc)

Once again this only effects old games without pro patches. Future releases have to have a pro node at launch.

Awesome thank you!
I put the video in the OP, it's weird. I think it runs worse and better at the same time. In the beginning just standing still it looked jumpy as shit but by end the when I was shooting the flamethrower in circles it was a smooth 30fps.
I was unaware of this thread when I was putting this together. Here's a version updated with some extra stuff from in here.

This is the feature that made me go and trade in my normal PS4 for a Pro today*. Hopefully Sony continues to improve this feature across the board :)

*Truth be told, I was also going to get a 1TB HDD as well, so factoring in the cost of a new HDD, upgrading to the Pro wasn't that far off.

Buying a pspro for this now is a terrible idea, what if this never gets released lol.

This thread needs tests of WRC6, Virginia, Mekazoo, Shadow Warrior, Sniper Elite 3...

Anyone? :) I still don't have the beta.

Most of these videos are useless because they are not even 60 fps(in youtube). And no frame counter...

DF get the job done already

Can someone post that Paul walker ff gif with the PS4 boost? I saw it last night and can't find it now.

QMJrm6X.gif

Found it for you.

Is there a list of how the boost has helped each game? Watching videos without having the pre-Beast Mode version running along side of it, doesn't help much. Especially for those of us who have yet to play some of these titles.

Yeah, this means nothing to me. I need actual comparisons.

Added some more to the OP, thank you again Liabe Brave. I'll continue digging through my library of games to test games that are not up here.

Only seen The Evil Within, but wow. That kind of improvement right there, that's my reason to play it again. I hope this gets an official release

I'll get another pro and never update this one again if that's the case.
I can't afford to do that but I would be angry

Glad I help off on Yakuza 0 (I own it. Just haven't started). I didn't know it suffered from tearing.

Eh...it's rare and only at night and at the top of the screen for a split second. I do notice when it happens but it's so rare that I don't even care about it. It doesn't happen during gameplay.

Curious to see how Dirt Rally is affected, if at all.
It shortly won't matter, I think. I believe they have a true Pro patch on the way.

"Useless"? "Actual" comparisons? Many of the videos are most certainly comparisons in and of themselves, and all of them are useful to compare with previous videos. Is it really the case that something is only real to you if there's a number attached?

I mean, I'm fully in support of measurement, detail, and graphing; I do that sort of thing for a living. But there are times when you really can trust your eyes. There are obviously real, meaningful improvements in some of these games. That will be true even if Digital Foundry never analyzes them.

Does this update include a downsample option for 1080p displays?
No. I understand wanting this, but you have to be realistic. A feature to enhance 9 games out of hundreds, only on hardware owned by a handful of PlayStation customers--and of them, only those using 1080p displays--is surely going to be a very low priority task.

"hello?" "this is vagina"
My requests are quite obscure:

Borderlands 2 two player splitscreen

Oddworld New n Tasty

Thanks in advance to anyone who can capture these!

Here's an updated version of the rough list. I've removed the video links, since giancarlo123x is collecting those in the OP. As well as making some himself, so thanks for that!

It's a minor annoyance in some of the busier areas of town, it's never there in battles or anywhere important though. Just when wandering around and only a couple streets. I wouldn't hold off on the game because of it, though I do wish they'd put out a Pro patch to improve AA and remove tearing.

Digital Foundry has a lot of work to do lol

This. While those videos are nice, unless there is a side by side frame counter on some of them it is hard to tell how much of an improvement it is. No doubt it is an improvement based on feedback, but in a video, a side by side with a frame rate counter is the only way to really see how much of an improvement this is.

The combination of this and having external HDD support is such a great thing for many!!
