I'm one of those people, and I was gonna buy a console to play UHD BD. So were all of these other people in the thread who spent thousands of dollars on TVs and were going to buy a console for UHD BD, and DID buy XB1s for that very reason. Hell go to AVS forums, tons of people who aren't even gamers bought the XB1s because it was the cheapest UHD BD player on the market.
I mean, yeah, I agree that the pro isn't super powerful, but when you release a new version of your console 3 years after launch at the launch price touting it as the 4k gaming experience, it's definitely an enthusiast console.
Wow all those people on forums. My god.
For some reason there doesn't seem like there is that many UHD BD sold. It must be a conspiracy.
I'm sorry but you are using your hopes and wishes to determine the past present and future of UHD BD. But it's the sales data that tells the truth. And it doesn't support your hopes and dreams.
Pictures takes the edge with UHD streaming, unless you got a shitty internet connection. My setup is great. I have an awesome internet connection. It's common knowledge that 1080p BR looks better than a 4k stream due to bitrate, streaming compression and artifacts. Also Dolby Atmos support.
What qualifies as big to you? UHD TVs had significant growth over last year. Amazon, Netflix, and Vudu are expanding their UHD content. Consoles are pushing UHD too. UHD Blu rays exceeded their sales expectations and shelf space is increasing at Best Buy, Target, Wal Mart and other places, not remaining static or shrinking. UHD is growing just fine and is anything but nothing or no big deal.

Obviously also depends on the source material and varies quite a bit.
Why are you bringing Dolby Atmos into the discussion ?
The real question is why do those same people spend so much time in fan forums telling enthusiasts how much they don't care.I mean what's your argument here really? That I shouldn't be disappointed? Of course UHD BD aren't lighting the world on fire yet, they really just started coming out late last year, and have just now started to pick up steam. By this time next year the UHD selection will have grown quite a bit, as most movies coming out now have UHD versions. I don't have any hopes and dreams, I'm just going by the fact that UHD BD is the only way to take advantage of an expensive TV, and plenty of people are disappointed by the lack of a UHD BD drive in the pro. People on forums are the people the PS4 pro is marketed towards. Joe Schmoe who buys madden, 2k, and COD every year could give a fuck less what framerate and res a game runs at. The pro is marketed to the kind of people who frequent tech forums and buy expensive TVs, and it's missing a feature that all of those people expected.
I just don't understand the argument that "well, most people don't care!" You know what? Most people don't care about an upgraded GPU, but it just so happens that a large portion of the people who follow the videogame industry and are willing to drop ANOTHER 400 dollars on a console might also happend to care about PQ in movies.

Avs just like neogaf is the absolute opposite of market representation.I'm one of those people, and I was gonna buy a console to play UHD BD. Isn't UHD/4k adoption faster than blu ray/HDTV lol
I thought that the whole point of this place is that we didn't have to deal with people like this.
Why are people even responding to this person?
The Pro is marketed to people who have a 4K tv. And that's not a enthusiast product either. If you are buying a tv today in say the USA, good chance it's a 4K tv. And they will stream content on that tv. Most won't buy a physical UHD BD.
People who buy the latest refresh or version of a product are not enthusiast, they are consumers.
I have no idea why you would be disappointed that a games console doesn't play UHD BD VHS or toast your bread. I am not disappointed my WII U doesn't play blu ray.
And the Xbox one was the best selling console*
Physical is dying to streaming... notice no * needed
I mean, what? Pretty sure people who don't care about PQ at all aren't going to buy another 400 dollar system if they already own a ps4, and aren't going to buy the more expensive ps4 if it's their first. I'm a super enthusiast, and if the ps4 pro isn't worth it to me, I'd assume the general public gives absolutely no fucks about it. The wii u argument doesn't even fly really. Nintendo was never the physical media center that ps3/4/xb1s were. Besides that though, I really don't care what the general public buys. To me, Sony released a system that seemed to be aimed at me, a sony fanboy with an expensive HDR 4k display, but I didn't bite due to lack of UHD BD.The Pro is marketed to people who have a 4K tv. Of course some people did so but we're not talking ps2 scale dvd adoption
PS4 Pro is for people who consume 4K media *
*on shit bitrate Netflix
And majority won't care*
*for real. People rather stream

And just because neogaf isn't absolutely market representation doesn't make us all irrelevant. You know who cares about 30 fps vs 60 fps? Neogaf. You know who cares a bout 900p vs 1080p vs 2160p? Neogaf. You know who cares about better textures and improved psvr performance? Neogaf. You know who cares about the ps4 pro? Neogaf.
To say, "well you all might care about UHD BD, but you're just neogaf posters!" when you're talking about a console aimed at neogaf posters is really silly.
And majority won't care*
*for real. People rather stream
But Sony did, and that's why it was left out
People* would rather stream
*People who don't spend $2000+ on their TV and $400 on a second PlayStation because they want 60fps and higher res textures
**and the majority don't know what frames per second or resolution are, and wouldn't buy a pro in the first place.
What's your point? We all know this already, doesn't mean it's not a disappointing omission. I could honestly give a fuck less what sony's profit margins look like, because I don't own shares in their business.
Majority*
* the people who spend $2000 on a tv aren't part of that group.
Majority*

*********** and the majority of people who will buy the pro still won't invest in UHD BD
But the pro was marketed to people who have expensive TVs? 4k HDR gaming is pretty fucking useless if you don't have a 4k HDR display.
I think the real question at-hand is what is Sony going to do to respond to the Scorpio. It has to be in the works. I'm sure we'll hear a response at E3 this year.
A Samsung ku 4K tv is expensive? 4K tvs can be cheap, expensive or anywhere in betweenBut the pro was marketed to people who have expensive TVs? 4k HDR gaming is pretty fucking useless if you don't have a 4k HDR display.

I'm still wishing that Sony included a UHD drive in the Pro. It would've been the perfect one-two punch for my home theater since I already own PS4 games. Instead now I have to look at the X1S or the Scorpio as my UHD Blu Ray/Gaming option for my home theater, which is annoying because I'll have to buy new games for it. Still believe that Sony fucked up by not including a UHD drive for their self proclaimed 4K device.
Also, there's definitely someone trolling in this thread and it's not Artisan. I'm not sure why certain folks are so uncomfortable with this thread being bumped. If you don't like it, don't read it and don't post in it. Simple.
Serious question. You are now I have to buy a Xbox and buy games for that too. Why not just buy a UHD player?
A Samsung ku 4K tv is expensive? 4K tvs can be cheap, expensive or anywhere in between
I don't know how much more clear one can get in this: nobody cares about what you intended to do or would do. You are not in any way a worthwhile market segment to target.

My whole point is. If you own a 4k HDR display and you wanted to buy a pro, you got burned. Like me.
Still believe that Sony fucked up by not including a UHD drive for their self proclaimed 4K device.
I own a quality 4K HDR display. I wanted to buy a Pro. At most I was mildly disappointed by the exclusion of UHD Blu-ray support, shrugged, and bought the Pro anyway. .
It is a 4k device. Because focus is on GAMES, not some movies. You should reat the tweet from OP.
4k device doesn't need to have a UHD player. That's a stupid logic.
Why include the ability to play non-game media at all then? Why not go full Nintendo and build a strictly games only console? I'm sorry but that's a poor justification. You've been very active in this thread and I'm not sure what you get out of shilling for Sony in this case.
Sony cheaped out in this regard, plain and simple, while MS is for once actually offering the better bang for the buck.

And you aren't active, hm? Oh yes, you are. You trying to push lack of UHD like some big mistake, i'm trying to push it's right decision not to include UHD to stay at 399$.
As i said : it's waaaay better to spend 15$ on more FLOPS than add some UHD and have less FLOPS. It was a right call.
Considering that the PS4 still outsold the Xbox One by butt tons... obviously consumers still felt the PS4 was a better value.
Considering that my prior posts are my first two posts in this thread in nearly half a year, yeah I'd say I'm not obsessed with this thread everytime it's bumped unlike yourself. I can't believe you really have the nerve to call someone out for trolling.
The fact that you're referring to FLOPS as if it's a material resource is quite telling about your expertise on this topic.
