Amazon does seem to like losing money so I guess this is possible.
I would think Android as well, but then they said they want to aim for the core market. The core audience who are all over the PS4 and Xbox One would barely give a passing glance if they went the Android route.
I don't get it. You want a monopoly? In my opinion, we need less consoles right now, not more.
With Amazon involved I feel like they'll just end up running Android like their Kindle Fire.
they have $9B cash reserves, $4B or so should be more than enough for a console
Haha probably. Will buying a console include a subscription to The Washington Post?
In my opinion, we need less consoles right now, not more.
I highly doubt they want to blow nearly half of the reserves, on a console launch....
They want to aim for Steam, my friend. They'll get games to match interests, but this console is all around tapping that online model.
Trust me, I'm a doctor.
It's yet another machine that steals valuable casual gamers away from XONE and PS4. MS and Sony should be worried if they don't have a plan that involves coping with losing 50-60 million gamers.
In my household the shift has already happened. The wife has shifted from Viva Pinata to iPad games.
If Amazon releases a digital only console, I wonder whether they will receive the same backlash that Microsoft received (yes I know the original One worked with discs). Will the same folks that weren't interested in the Xbox one yet protested on principle to save physical media be similarly fired up? Should be a good litmus test on the gaming press if it happens.
So another OUYA like device is being made. Whoop Dee Fuckin' Doo.
Wait, Amazon? As in, shopping website Amazon?
I-that's, wow...

Imagine we would have Steambox and Amazonbox by 2014, man that would be a huge boost for PC Gaming.
Please no android shit again, just put some PC Hardware nicely together for a fair price. Put your own modified Linux on it but let me the option to install Windows on it.

You mean Mobile and PC Gaming, right?Imagine we would have Steambox and Amazonbox by 2014, man that would be a huge boost for PC Gaming.

Amazon have a lot more about them than a shopping website nowadays. A large number of popular websites rely on Amazon Web Services, for example.
Microsoft wasn't releasing a digital only console. The backlash was against Microsoft treating physical distribution like digital distribution.
It wasn't just people who "weren't interested in the Xbox" up in arms.
Agreed. PS4 may outsell the One to core gamers, but what do they have to offer to casuals beyond Pricing relativity. No DVD or Blu-ray value with those now ubiquitous. No motion or camera games. Free generic media apps but everybody has that access already. While the One has TV and kinect features, price is a big barrier. The market is ripe for disruption IMO.
No, the hardware company, Amazon. Also the cloud services company, Amazon.Wait, Amazon? As in, shopping website Amazon?

This will be the first full digital console. I doubt it will be disc based at all. Physical media is old news anyways.
no, Ouya only had millions for budget, Amazon has billions
This would be a bad thing for all. We need less locked in ecosystem's. Especially the crap that Apple tries to pull on their consumers.I'm still a little surprised apple hasn't jumped in yet. Not that I want an 1000 dollar console or anything but an apple console would be beautiful. I doubt apple would like to take a loss on any hardware.
You mean Mobile and PC Gaming, right?
Mobile?? Why should i mean Mobile when i talk about a PC?
if it's discless and has access to android games + triple A games, I don't think people would be upset. espescially since they're a new entry into the market. no one was upset that Ouya was digital only, to my knowledge.
Some people hate Sony, some people hate Microsoft, some people hate Nintendo, some people hate Apple...
But everyone loves Amazon.
Because you are talking about the Amazon box.
This won't just be a gaming device, it will very much be an entertainment device.
They can offer up the Amazon Store with all of it's content direct to a users television.
This thing could be massive.

You is a big difference than the mainstream user. Amazon has the ability to make this huge. They dwarf companies like Sony and Nintendo in size and resources. Even Microsoft tooI still don't want to play phone games on my TV.
