Games need to add an auto pause on heat warnings. I got one in Minecraft yesterday - the warning flashed up for a second but then the screen went blank. After maybe 30 seconds I took the device off and let it cool down for five minutes. When I came back I the game was still running, but it was night-time and I was outside. I looked around - creepers everywhere!

Watched some of the Derby pre-race via NextVR today. Very cool. Watched the actual race with my family though. I'd be interested in hearing from someone who watched the race live in VR.

Hey guys I promised you this some days ago, but it's finally ready ;)
I prepared a video of my top 8 games for Gear VR. I hope that you will download some of them, cause they are really great!
Just one thing: Minecraft wasn't available at the time I produced the video and I haven't included Land's End, since it's the only game that I think everyone knows at this time, no need to feature it in here.
p.s.: pardon my english, I'm no native speaker :)

Interesting list. Given I hadn't even heard about a couple of these, I'll have to check them out. A little surprised Anshar Wars 2 didn't make the list though, given that appears to be a frequent favorite from a lot of people.

The only one of these I hadn't seen before was Annie Amber. I'll have to check it out! Thanks for sharing this.

Your English was actually quite good so don't worry. I would have made 2 videos out of this one, though, i think a video-game list video should always go straight to the point. Well, just my 2 cents.

Tomorrow I'm finally getting my moga Pro and will be trying some of the games you listed!

That's a good feedback, thanks!

So i finally got my moga Pro and i started enjoying my gear vr much more. Minecraft is a blast although being so slow pace I'm not sure if I'll get very far with it.

Got myself Land's End which i liked and played the dread halls demo which was ok i guess but i won't buy the whole thing.

Now I'm really craving for a racing game but somehow the only one i find is a kart racing one. That really sucks and seems crazy to me. I thought there would be several racing games, it seems like a perfect fit for Gear VR. Is the kart game worth it?

Dangit! I sent my claim for the promotional Gear VR with my S7 purchase back in March. I got an email from them a couple weeks after saying my estimated shipping date was May 8th, haven't heard or seen anything since. I still want this thing... I bought a compatible controller too! Anybody else take a while to receive theirs?

More free Gear VRs

Samsung is trying to get the Gear VR around even more people's heads. For just over the next two weeks, through June 19th, Samsung will include a Gear VR for free with all sales of the Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, S6, S6 Edge and Edge+, and Galaxy Note 5. It'll also come with six games from the Oculus store.

We've had 4 straight months of revenue growth of our game on Gear VR now, so this is great news and continues to strengthen our faith in the platform.

Edit: Google to the rescue! Into the Dead is it? I need to pickup a controller.

Yes, Into the Dead. And the latest update we put out for it removed the controller requirement. It plays better with a controller, but not necessary.

are there any games on the gear vr store that are first person and incorporate a traditional dual analog control scheme? i'm just curious about what kind of experience that would be.

Dreadhalls and Minecraft. Personally it doesn't bother me at all but some people get woozy.

VR porn is out of this WOOORLD, good lord!! I am forever changed... shook, in my seat.

Anyways, I've tried Minecraft, but I feel like the framerate drops too low when 3D rendering is on (and I have no desire to play the game without it), so I haven't really gotten into it. Using an S7.

Dreadhalls functions pretty well though. Unsure of what other games I should try. Couldn't get into Drift. Maybe I'll try Land's End, or something else.

Lands end is fun. I also actually felt like the height got to me once or twice.

You should try the Eve online peoples game as well.

Couple other awesome things I love about the Gear VR.

1) Using an S7, I still can't see the edges of the phone's screen, despite some reports that you could. I thought I'd need a Note for the screen to fill the lenses FOV, but this doesn't seem to be an issue.

2) I don't have to use my glasses. What a godsend. I have a terrible prescription, like -7. The focal adjustment actually dials into a clear view for me, even with my astigmatism. Hallelujah Jesus!

Honestly the 3D rendering in Minecraft has less of an effect than you might think. John Carmack said on Twitter when he demoed it in 2D to Palmer Luckey, Palmer didn't even notice. I would turn it off and also turn off the pretty skies.

Occlus arcade emulation still seems to be broken on S7 devices. Pretty much all the sega titles run at half fps or worse making it unplayable. I really want to love this app but it doesnt seem like its s7 performance is getting any better.

Apperently runs fine on Note4 and S6 devices.

I have an S7 Edge and some of the games are running kinda bad. The Eve one is probably the biggest one, with it running fine in the menu screens but get incredibly choppy during actual gameplay. I've had a few other games also get kinda bad when running them, but the Eve one is probably the most notable example. I've read somewhere that this is due to the S7 using a different type of rendering or processor that the Gear VR hadn't been configured for and that they would eventually sort it out, but I'm wondering if anyone else with an S7 has had these problems.

Thanks for posting this. I was really hoping that the thread wasn't dead.
I was on the verge of finally getting rid of my iphone 6 plus for a samsung S7 just to finally have a Gear VR, but hearing about these problems is making me pause.

I've been searching all over for a good list of games to buy for Gear VR, and some kind of reviews that show the games off. This thread really didn't take off, which worries me...

I'm looking for more overall opinions. Believe it or not, this thread - as slow as it is - is the best resource I've found about Gear VR.

In my opinion:
Gear VR isn't worth it for the games or regular video content. Adult videos though? Mind blowing. That's literally all I use it for now.

Well it's about as decent an entry into VR as you'll get. This thread has seen ok activity for a device that demands a specific type of phone.

Think about this: Many of the best received games on the Oculus Rift originated on the oculus store for the Gear VR and play the same, with a little worse image clarity. If you want to try out VR right now I think the Gear is the right price and the 'premium' devices are way overpriced for the depth of gaming you'll get,

I got my free headset in Friday and have been taking it for a spin over the weekend. I had a Rift DK2 for a while and this feels pretty close to that as far as experiences go. I have not tried one of the retail headsets yet, so I can't compare it to that.

So far Netflix is by far the coolest thing I have tried on the Gear VR. I was laying in bed trying it out last night and actually had what I would call a ghost leg feeling (Like I was shocked my legs were where they were.) It really feels like you are in that living room watching Netflix. I would think if you are not opposed to wearing the headset in public, a virtual theater would be THE WAY to watch movies/shows on a flight.

Bait is a cool game that looks great and the environments really give you the sense that you are in that location.

Sonar was a cool movie/experience thing. There is some fantastic 3D effects at the end of it.

I'll probably grab a few more apps from the store to try later on.

All in all, I think it's a neat addition to the phone, especially since I got it free. Not sure I would fork out the 100 bucks for one, but I can see it's uses for media use if you travel a lot, or just want to see what all the VR fuss is about for cheap(er)

I was flying this weekend and wished I had the GEAR VR for movie watching. I enjoyed playing around with the GEAR in best buy - especially the movie app.

Regarding the Samsung vs Iphone thing, I've been in the apple eco-system since Iphone 4. I still have an iPad and a macbook pro, and all of the reviews for the Samsung 7 say that it's a better phone than the iPhone equivalent. Switching was motivated by GEAR VR,but also because it just seems like the S7 rocks.

Regarding gaming, I guess I'm easy to please. I just want to get lost in new experiences. Minecraft. A good adventure game. Maybe a good puzzle or RPG style experience. Couldn't care less about FPS games. I don't expect much, but for $100.00, I feel that even if I only got the opportunity to watch VR movies and a few good games that really take advantage of the Gear VR, it's probably money well spent....

hopefully. thanks for the replies everybody! I'm still reading everything as people post them!

A coworker brought a Gear VR set to work and had everyone try it out. VR is going to be huge. Everyone was super-impressed, laughing, cheering, including myself. I really liked that there were no cables or bulky cameras/sensors in the way, it was just you and the goggles, super easy to setup, I understand that you don't get enough power for some games with just the phone but this is still the way things should be. It won't make me buy a new phone just to get VR but I'd be all over this if I had an S7 and I'll probably look into Google cardboard alternatives for my iPhone now.

I got the SteelSeries XL controller for Father's Day. Bought Anshar Wars 2. We then pretty much immediately hit the road and while I debated it, I left my headset at home. In retrospect I wish I'd brought it with me (visiting family). Would have been a cool gadget to hand around (though my brother's wifi is soooooo sloooooooow).

Oh well, it'll be there for me when I get home. I'll post impressions once I get at it.

There's also apparently a VR version of the GoT intro in the Oculus Video app. I want to try that out too. Anyone else try that one yet?

Oculus sale going on right now. Picked up Land's End for $2. I may also grab Gunjack even though I have Anshar Wars 2.

Any other games on the must have list?

A week ago I got my first taste of VR with PSVR at a nearby Best Buy. I was pretty impressed by what I saw. I've been hyping myself up about this for a long time now. And though it didn't totally blow my mind, it met my expectations of being a ground breaking and immersive experience.

I'm thinking about buying it, but it's not coming out for another 3 and half months. So what did I do until then? I bought a cheap VR headset for my Galaxy S5. It was not the same ground breaking and immersive experience. The FOV was pretty disappointing compared to PSVR. It felt like I was watching peaking at an old school 4:3 tube TV that I could view in 360 degrees. Outside of that was just darkness which was pretty distracting.

Anyways, I'm up for a upgrade in a few months. I just wanted to know if the GearVR experience is any better. That would help me determine whether I'm going to get a S7, the next Note, or go with a much cheaper alternative like a ZTE Axon 7. Is the FOV much better and does the quad HD screen provide a noticeable difference over 1080p screens? Or did the cheap headset I bought just a piece of junk?

Gear VR is a huge step up over Google Cardboard. The head tracking is tremendously improved which is probably the most important thing for VR, and the headset is almost certainly more comfortable than what you were using. The quality of the software is a lot higher as well.

That said if all you want is a stop gap to hold you over until PSVR comes out, financially I'm not sure it's a hot idea. I would only get it if you're interested in Gear VR for it's own sake. Even after PSVR comes out I expect I will keep using my Gear VR, because it's great and being wireless is very convenient.

Finally a response lol. But anyways, that's how I feel as well. I want to get some kind of mobile VR to compliment PSVR or maybe even Rift or Vive if I went with one of those two instead. I'm going to get a new high end phone regardless. I just figure why not take advantage of that and pair it with a headset for some cool wireless VR experiences that I can show anyone without hauling my PS4 or PC with me.

The experience I had on my S5 with a really cheap $20 headset was complete shit compared to PSVR and that's not what I want to show people for the first time. RIght now I keep wondering if I should get a Samsung phone and go with Gear VR or take a wait and see approach with Daydream. That's where my interest in the Axon 7 comes from.
