You took the words right out of my mouth. I'm still personally in disbelief. My second post in this thread. I still can't process this. A few people PM'd me. I tried to think aloud and clear my head.
The man exuded gentleness and a genuine desire to make people happy. All people. You feel that spirit, that love in every game he worked on, directly or indirectly. "Iwata laughs" became a meme. In truth it was the laugh of someone who values kind, innocent fun.
I think that's why he connected with us all. There's no judgment in Nintendo games. Just a warm, inviting sense of unconditional love.
Still can't believe he's gone. But in so many ways, he's not.
I'd like to add my voice to this as well. I think it would be a really nice tribute.
I did my best, but is a small avatar...

I first met Satoru Iwata at TGS in 2005 when I interviewed him for G4. He spoke in Japanese and showed off the Nintendo Wii controller.

So at the end of the interview, after the cameras were off, he turned to me and started speaking in English

"Geoff, I really liked out interview. I can tell you are a gamer so I wanted to show you something." He turned the controller sideways

He held it like an NES controller with D-pad and the A B buttons. He smiled, I think to hint at Virtual Console. I'll always remember that.

I felt a great connection with him then, he wanted gamers to know that Nintendo would always think of us. He was such an honorable man.
You know what hurts? That the last thing Iwata said to us was "Sorry"
I've been crying since hearing the news, so I need a bit of an outlet to write this I suppose.
A few years ago a few thought I was kinda crazy because I got super frustrated I wasn't able to meet Mr. Iwata. During E3, I'd just show up too late here or there, always missing the window of opportunity to meet him. I really wanted to meet him because of everything he helped accomplish with Nintendo and I just wanted to say thanks. Call it something akin to meeting an idol or something, I don't know.
Anyway... my husband was lucky enough to work with him when he was in the RWC office and always had the nicest things to say about him. Well, whenever he was in the office, I'd have him take my 3DS to work to get Mr. Iwata's Mii and StreetPass. For SOME reason, he had all the rare puzzle pieces, who'da thunk it! One time when he was in town, I decided to write a private message to him, just for fun. I never thought he'd ever take the time to write something back.
Well, shockingly he did! I'm still stunned he took the time to do so because unlike E3, this is a company/work environment and I imagine he was fairly busy at a CEO.
Now he's passed on and I don't even have the right words. RIP Mr. Iwata, I really did like the banana joke.

Could somebody add puppet Iwata to my avatar somehow?
Here is a scaled down version for avatars, with a white glow to detach it from the background. And the original. It's quick and dirty.
