That said, I enjoy Mad Max.
I am with you OP. Never liked them. Pretty much stopped playing Rise of the Tomb Raider because my motivation to keep moving through the frigid snow level was very low.
There is only one exception for me, Guacameele Sierra Morena (SP?)
The 'dark' version of Sierra Morena had some incredible music. Never thought I'd hear straight up Progressive Breaks in a game. I mean we're talking "Luke Chable set from 2005" level of goodness here.

Currently in the snow area of Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon. This end boss fight is dreadful.
