Yes.
That doesn't mean anything, It means games need to be compatible with both consoles but it doesn't mean all games are required to take full advantage of Pro beefed up specs.
Yes.
There is no way to mandate pro feature sets as such. Developers have to have a pro mode but they can do no upgrades for it just leaving you with much smoother framerate. That doesn't mean anything, It means games need to be compatible with both consoles but it doesn't mean all games are required to take full advantage of Pro beefed up specs.

I wish this made some type of sense, can you please reword this for clarity
Its common sense. Just updating games by default to recognizing the Pro's hardware will boost performance for games, even if devs left games the same general settings as the original PS4 game. The CPU upclock and new GPU aren't just going to sit there and not do anything.
It looks soooooo good. Dat grass!
Grass still appears to be non-existent after a radius of about 20m though.
Waiting on that FFXV digital foundry. Let me know what that frame rate is and i'll buy a Pro if it's stable.
Exactly. I don't see where people see any improvement in vegetation and LOD or shadow draw-in. It looks the exact same as the base version.
No wonder, if this is running in 4K mode, which doesn't add much if any graphical improvements. It's all about rendering the game in a much higher resolution. Additionally to that there's not that much additional power left on the PS4 Pro unless there's also a 1080p mode with graphical bells and whistles.
Welp I was already in the fence with my hype induced pro preorder, this just adds more to my not getting it sideReports from TGS actually confirm the base PS4 version is already running in stable 30fps.
The quality might not be the best, but if we assume that all the footage in the most recent trailer is resembling the base version of the game it already had some really nice improvements in regards to the foliage:
1) is that confirmed? That nothing is necessary on the developer's end to benefit from the improved hardware?
2) yeah his post was definitely worded like shit, it's not me.
1) As of right now, games need to be pro aware after the mandated period. This isn't a rule, but since the pro is faster in every way it should be the case for games which don't offer pro features, 4K or 1080p. The Xbone S similarly offers performance benefits for games due to the upclock though ms doesn't advertise the feature.1) is that confirmed? Still has an issue with not seeing literally any foliage in the distance though.

Until they release a proper direct comparison footage it will be hard to get a final judgement of the differences. And unfortunately I don't think we're going to get that before launch because they clearly don't want people to think that the PS/XB1 versions are not good enough.
But even looking at this shitty screen grab:
I've never seen anything with this vegetation density in the normal PS4 version of the game. Coincidence?
Not to mention the texture quality that seems greatly improved (or it's the higher res that make the assets shine instead of blurring them).
Of course it's not like the Pro version will look like an other game, but the improvements are there and are noticeable.

Karak ive just watched both your primer vids on 4K and HDR. Great stuff man, so clear and concise, thank you for this! Look forward to your tv breakdowns and analysis. My money for a new HDR tv is on hold for now, your right the tech is still emergent and input lag needs to drop.
Best idea so far ya.I also watched both, and was thinking of getting a Samsung KS8000, but those convinced me to hold off.
Hopefully next year we'll get some better TVs.
Senran Kagura lightbars will blind you.Makes me wonder how anime games with cel-shaded graphics will fare with HDR.
It's posts like this that knock some sense into me.I've seen so many threads discussing which 4K/HDR sets to get although granted this thread is not that.
My advice is this, do your research and homework to make sure you can get the best possible bang for your buck. You have to take into account how much you're willing to spend and what you're criterias are.
For example (and I've posted this before) my criteria are the following:
65inches or bigger
Preferably a Samsung or Sony
Good input lag while in game mode and be able to do HDR simultaneously (an input lag of 30ms or below is acceptable to me)
No more than 2K I'm willing to spend
I've seen way too many posts of people just asking questions and expecting gaffers to just answer.
Folks must do their homework. I've read so many articles from CNET (shoutout to Geoffrey Morrison's articles) and frequented AV and AVS forums to get answers. I have read up on edge lit tvs, full array local dimming (which is top of the like when it comes to LCDs for HDR) terms like banding, light bleed and blooming, stuff that a year ago I knew nothing about. Again folks do your research.
First I wanted a 4K set, then I read that not all 4K sets support HDR, then I read that not all 4K sets support games at 60hz and whichever tv I purchased should be hdcp 2.2 compliant and should have hdmi 2.0a input (because that standard does support games at 60hz) etc
Then I read (around the time the Xbox One S was announced) that input lag on certain models would be higher because certain models do not do HDR mode while in the TV's game mode. Just recently Samsung released a firmware update (confirmed by UK's HDTV test site via Twitter)
https://twitter.com/HDTVTest/status/773859278050516992
For folks who don't have a clue and don't do their research they are literally stepping into a mine field when shopping for an HDTV.
I also advise folks to wait until next year which is what I plan on doing. CES is just around the corner.
Have they confirmed yet if there will be better effects and quality in 1080p for FFXV?

You really need to see HDR in person to appreciate the upgrade on visual quality.
TGS has a section dedicated to PS4 Pro footage and i just keep going back to stare at it lol. FFXV and inFamous in particular, really impressed me.
How are you guys deciding that HDR looks better with these off screen grabs?
Are you on an HDR display or can you actually see the changes with a non HDR display?
If you search for problems with a popular brand you'll always find people who have them. It's anecdotal but I've never had a TV break down on me and I've had quite a few different brands myself (Cat, LG, Panasonic, Philips)Panasonic DX900/902 is pretty boss. It has 512 FALD zones vs 660 FALD of Sony new Z9D.
I prefer Japan brands because the sets in my homes lasted until i upgraded. Been hearing how Samsung/LG electronics break down after the 2-3 years mark.
I also watched both, and was thinking of getting a Samsung KS8000, but those convinced me to hold off.

Damn, I can totally see the difference in the UC4 one...It clearly looks better with HDR...
You can't see HDR on your screen
The Samsung KS8000 has extremely low input lag, just 21-22ms at 4K HDR. There's no need to wait, it's an excellent TV (unless you need to watch it at an angle, which I personally don't) that comes for an affordable price.
Not sure about the curret Tv market......are there 1080p hdr tvs available?
HDR looks like it really is worth it, but i dont need 4k resolutions. Im still fine with full hd resolution.
Probably not going to find many 1080p sets with it, but it'll have to be new ones. Not sure about the curret Tv market......are there 1080p hdr tvs available?

isnt that 38-39ms actually?
Im so disappointed with my 55X8505c... 93 ms in HDR ...
Why i have buy this TV ? ...
I tried Forza Horizon 3 in HDR and it is unplayable for me...
