The Witcher 3 | Review Thread

That IGN review doesn't match the score they gave it. It's just i as I thought, 100 hours with loads of padding and meaningless fetch quests, exactly the same as dragon Age Inquisition. The first paragraph was about how huge the open world was.. Same as da:I. Combine this with the shitty UI and inventory system means it's not a purchase for me.

You seem to only be reading the negatives to reinforce the opinion you already had.

This makes the week wait even harder somehow :( God damnit.

So happy for CDPR though - these guys really deserve all of the success in the world.

I didn't need these reviews to tell me what I already knew.

But, damn if it doesn't feel good to see The Witcher 3 cementing that Masterpiece™ status.

Your move Batman and Metal Gear Solid V.

One curious question, I've had the game pre-ordered for close to a year, I'm kind of hopping into this completely blind and I haven't played the first two Witcher games despite owning them forever on Steam. Should I try to play some of those games before Witcher 3, or think I should just dive right into it?

You could just watch these:

Playing the games are better, plus you already own the games so you could just rush through them.

That's exactly what I got out of it as well.

Bad main story. Great optional side-stories.

No thanks. I think I'll be staying away from this. I knew the open-world design for this one would work against it.

IGN also mentioned framerate issues for a brief moment, but it didn't have a bullet point in their final verdict.

Damn, what a powerful case of confirmation bias.

Man, these reviews. Congratulations to all the developers. This game is going to sell really well for a long time, a run something like Skyrims. First game in a long time that I'm getting day 1.

I want this game inside me, NOW.

I wish I had the PC to play it but that might come later in the year and then, fuck it, I'll just buy the game again. For now, the PS4 version will do because I just can't wait.

While I don't mind a few fetch quests here and there anyway, I've read that any fetch quests that exist in Witcher 3 simultaneously serve to develop side characters, which sounds great to me.

This post isn't by me, it's by a guy with the same username as me.
Is that not the highest score GT has ever given? :O

Other games like GTA IV, GTA V, Halo 3, Mario Galaxy and Last Of Us got 9.8 from GT in the past.

But the highest score was Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter with a 9.9. But strangely the score was changed to 9.1

It's not that rare, but you can see that only well regard games received a score like this.

From kotaku:

Each of the game’s many small villages offers something new; a man will flag you down, asking for help dealing with a beast that’s been killing his livestock. Or maybe a merchant’s wagon will have gone missing and she’ll offer Geralt some coin to track it down. Perhaps one village will have a message board covered with notes left by the villagers: Please stop stealing milk from my cows; has anyone seen my lost hat; can someone help out with the bog wraith that keeps killing people? The villages all start to blend together, effectively conveying the feeling of a war-torn kingdom full of shitty little villages populated with desperate people.

Sigh, I hate these filler side quests.

And didn't CDPR say there wouldn't be any fetch quests??

Though the straightforward and fetch-quest-heavy main story overstays its welcome, the option of joyfully adventuring through a rich, expansive open world was always there for me when I’d start to burn out. Even if the plot isn’t terribly interesting, the many characters who play a part in it are, and along with the excellent combat and RPG gameplay, they elevate The Witcher 3 to a plane few other RPGs inhabit.

AWESOME! but......

from IGN

Thanks to lots of excellent dialogue and voice acting there is some emotional payoff along the way, but it’s mixed in with too much padding in the form of meaningless fetch quests and collectathons. Every time I felt like I was on the verge of an interesting revelation, I’d have to suddenly stop to escort a goat, or search for a lost, narcoleptic dwarf. Heck, even Geralt can barely hide his frustration with the constant parade of menial tasks at times.

Perfect sendoff for the legendary witch-hunter. Expected nothing less from CDPR.

Hope to see you again in the future, Geralt of Rivia.

Do any of the reviews that are talking about the iffy framerate mention that there is a day one patch? I think it's pretty important to note that.

Currently Bloodborne and Super Mario 3D World are the highest scored next-gen games with a 92. Lets see if this dethrones it, currently has a 91.

I knew the game would look awesome and have a good story and music. The last one did. But it was such a chore to play through and the combat and menu systems were awful. I hope they would have addressed this but it's clear they didn't.

I can't stand when they say how large the map is and how the game has over 100 hours of gameplay, it means artifical padding and filler missions, which is what the reviews are saying.

Not everyone has to gush every time a new game comes out, like what happened when DA:I was released..
