Lots of good tips in here from everyone.
A couple of thoughts:
- When making thread titles, please do not use ALL-CAPS. We're getting more and more of this now that it's cropping up on tweets and youtube video titles (particularly with movie titles), but it's frowned upon here. Don't do it.
- When you make a new thread, please double check the title before you hit submit. There are thread title errors all the time from people that get sloppy and don't realize what they pasted didn't fit in the character limit, etc... Use the preview. Remember that it's easy enough for you to touch up the OP later, but a thread title change will require a moderator.
- Please do your best to ensure you're not posting a duplicate thread. Scan the front page of the forum and use the search function. It's also highly recommended that you use one of these if you're on Twitter:
There are twitterbots that collect and post new threads as they are created, like
NESbot and
NESbot OT (among others that function the same).
Between use of subscriptions and following those twitterbots, you can keep track of both every new thread and every existing thread that interests you effortlessly.

We get a lot of duplicate threads, and they're easily preventable.
- Though it's improving these days, we don't get enough quality threads about science, nature, culture (aside from movies and TV), general news, and a lot of other topics. If you see something threadworthy that others might enjoy or find interesting, make a thread for it. I see frequent complaints that there are too many political threads, and one way to counteract that is to ignore those threads if they bother you and post something different. Ultimately, the forum is what the members make it.
