Damn, all the drama happens when I'm asleep. Anyone have links? What would be interesting if there was a sub-category called the Graveyard where mods post who was banned, for what reason(s) and the posts they were banned for. I think it would a very popular section of the forum to visit.

It's been discussed previously, and EviLore doesn't seem to like the idea. It's a pretty decent moderation strategy to keep the line you musn't cross as vague as possible, so that people stay away from it.

Himuro should've taken the higher ground and said, "who gives a shit if she's an attention whore" and let those following her around be thirsty.

Exactly..to get back on the topic. I can't remember the exact reason/thread he was banned for but Docpans threads were pretty amazing, is he by any chance still posting on eb?

If it was a dude showing off his abs and getting criticized by a female, I don't think he would have received the ban

Again it was how he said it not what he said.

Watching it live was a once in a lifetime experience. I got almost nothing done at work that afternoon.

It was the best fun I've ever had on the Internet. Gaming included. If I remember right, the thread caused so much tension active members who genuinely asking for account bans in disgust. All this before the constant rollercoaster rides on whether he was telling the truth or not.

Himuro commited account suicide by saying what each one of us was thinking. Problem is it was a healthy situation, Koshiba was getting the ego boost she needed after breaking up with her boyfriend and we were getting to see some boobs, so we kept our mouths shut.

Problem with this though is that moderating becomes subjective. For example, the copyright issue - there are some things some Mods will tolerate where others won't. Or another example on the topic of spanking or discipling your kids by hitting them.

Banned
MikeWorks or MikeWords.

He had a lot of users banned by influencing them, most of them gaming side , come to the OT to troll threads.

It was kind of hilarious.

For a topic change...

Anyone remember wizword?

He was the guy that e-mailed a professor and was upset about the response that he got and GAF ridiculed him.

Then, he made a thread about his car being stolen and the first poster said, "Your professor took it." :lol

He later suicided by posting porn.

Well yeah, the moderating is subjective. Maybe that's good, or bad, or irrelevant. Too bad we can't discuss this stuff, as per the TOS. :p

I'm in a long term relationship myself, but the thread has had some nice discussions about facial hair, fashion, etc.
Damn, I'll start checking it out then. They took away our old girl thread :( But this probably can slide since it's technically about boys. The other one was random girl topics.

No.

Rumor goes: Segata was offered modship, turned it down. "It isn't for me," and he still doesn't like the current discourse that is going on here.

Nope.

IIRC, Dragona nominated him for modship and he expressed interest, but when I investigated I found a lot of bitterness and hostility towards GAF (on and off the forum), so I didn't take him on.

Happens to a lot of folks over time. Much like a relationship, you change, GAF changes, the good things don't do anything for you anymore and each problem grates on you more and more.

Yah, I posted his thread couple of pages earlier. He broke down completely when ppl made fun of his ridiculous story.

Reeeeeeee
Every blow out is great because GAF has sooooo many forum drama queens who base their lives around this place. Love it when people get all uppity over some shit on the internet.

I honestly believe that everyone who got banned truly deserved it. I also love the site's redesign. The ads too, love them.

you know who is the banned one I miss most?

it's this little fella

he would be like the Achievement Unlocked of gaf. If you created a really good gif or made a killer post, you would be greeted with the gaf equivalent of 200p Xbox Achievement, the triple lol - and really good ones would get several consecutive posts with them:

The banning of lol dude has significantly decreased my motivation to create new photoshops.

Sad, but then again, so is caring about gamer points.
I'll happily point the finger at Jakncoke. The NFL threads were infested with posts by him with nothing but lol smilies in response to other posts. Evilore got rid of it and banned him for something like two weeks right before the Super Bowl. NFL-Age were not happy about this, and we memorialized the fallen poster in his absence by typing out :jakncoke in place of :lol.

The whole Dyack saga was hilariously surreal. At one point he was on 1up Yours and made this remark:

"If you're going to look at the NeoGAF forum as a non-profit organization, if it does not reform itself, it's eventually going to crumble. There's going to be a point where they step over the line where someone's going to shut them down. That would be a loss for everyone."

Only ban I kinda experienced was EazyB, and then, I was still a lurker without awaiting his activation.

Basicly, he shopped the head of a Bungie developer on the statue of Sadam because EazyB thought he did a horrible job on Halo 3's matchmaking.
I've been trying to recall any other bannings from the Halo threads. I was only in them from around Halo 3 and ODST and Reach buildup, but there had to be more than just Eazy's.

I know you're being sarcastic BUT there is a good reason why I love this and basically only this forum..people talking shit get banned immediately, no fucking smilies and whats most important no animated avatars (even though now that I have have turned them off completely I wouldn't care anymore).

Yeah I still don't understand why he thought there was some kind of governing body that rules over internet message boards, with the power to shut them down.

I neglected to post this gem:

"NeoGAF and other forums like this that don't have good management are not only hurting society and hurting the videogame industry, they're in decline, and they need to reform quickly before people stop listening to them," he continued. "If the moderators and people who run the site think they aren't doing any damage, they are sorely mistaken, and it's only a matter of time before something bad happens."

I remember that particular 1up Yours ep being particularly embarrassing. Dyack just used it as his soapbox, pontificating at excessive lengths on various subjects and the others mostly just enabled him.

It really sucked that no one on that show called him out on the bullshit he was spewing. Should have got Shawn Elliot or someone in who would have been willing to do more than just sit back. I remember reading Evillore saying he would have appeared on the show if asked which would have made for a really interesting listen.

I don't remember any real shockers banning wise. Maybe because I didn't/don't spend much time in the OT.

I'm sure I've come close to be temp banned once or twice, and only really remember the banning of the picture being pissed on as something specific. I do remember when Y2Kev was mod'd though:D!

Scarlet was fun on the gaming-side :\

As much as I would've loved someone like Elliot chewing him up, you gotta admit the guys just sitting back and being in awe of all the shit he was spouting made an amazing listen. He just dug himself a deeper and deeper hole.

That ep was the reason I started visiting GAF I think, haha.

I love it when people take this place so seriously

I think it was Evilore who said in one of the recent threads that PR fims have threatened to blacklist gaf before.

from what exactly? nobody knows. It's like these people have never used the internet before.
