so you are comparing games to consoles now..? ok..
MS are selling X360. Yes. But sony is also selling PS3´s..? and not less because they have announced a console coming this christmas.
Do you know the numbers for people watching E3 conferences..? I know the number for the Sony show. More than 8 million people watched the show. And all the press was there, for only one thing, Sony.
At E3 alle the press is there. but for MUCH more.. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, EA, Activision etc. it´s a place where an announcement may make an impact, but it can also get lost between all the other things revealed at E3.
They would make a much better lasting impact if the made their own show. (IMO)
Once again, Sony did a good job getting the word out for Sony, but it didn't hurt MS at all.
No matter how much good mainstream press Sony gets for the PS4, they caveat it by speculating on what MS is doing with their next system.
Look at CNN.com's article post-sony conference for example. At the end of the article it says:
In the end, most who paid attention seemed impressed with what they saw. But not all were ready to hand Sony the console-wars victory.
"#PS4 looking nice, but can't wait to see what #Microsoft has," wrote one user. "The ball is in your court now."
Many gaming insiders predict that Microsoft will show off its new console -- possibly the Xbox 720 -- at the Electronic Entertainment Expo in June. That would likely mean new consoles from the two rivals both will hit the market in time for the holidays.
Literally, the chain hasn't moved one way or the other.
IMO if MS has the fool proof goods and they feel like the hardware and the software content is amazing then why do a drive-by like Sony?
If they really plugged the leak and can keep the Area 51 insider info away from the likes of Kotaku, VG Leaks and the hackers then MS has nothing to lose by waiting till a Pre-E3 show announcing and shwing what the system looks like and then the following day just go hard and hit them over the head with what they have been holding back.
They have 20 million subcribers to XBOX Live, they don't need Youtube to reach their install base. It'll be advertised for free on the dashboard along with the conference.
If anyone who has watched coverage of E3 from G4 all theway to Game Trailers, they know that when it's time for E3 they could careless about stuff they know about. It'll be the element of suprise that garners the most press and clicks on the sites.
People talk of the other conference, but that's great for games like Battlefield 4 and even more Sony press.
But again, the Superbowl is E3 period.
If I was MS I'd do a June 10 event, then a full blown press conference on the 11th and watch the sparks fly.
If it has what it takes, the mindshare and press will follow. But, your closest competitors won't have months to form a rebuttle to what you offer.
