No, I don't believe it. It can't be true, stop toying with us. STOP IT.........

DARKSTALKERS ARE NOT DEAD the sequel.

Suzuki is a cruel, twisted, inhumane, brutal, malevolent, beast of a man for making this a joke.

Well that should go without saying. Outrun is one of the greatest arcade racing series of all time, while the only thing Shenmue is good for is curing insomnia.

Why do some of you insist on derailing topics about Shenmue? We get it, you don't like it. Go talk about your favorite game in another topic.

If they successfully make a third shenmue and it still sells terribly can Shenmue fans finally admit the series isn't that good and their excuses for the first 2 games selling so bad no longer hold water?

Dude...Sega killed Sega.

Yeah really. I love my Dreamcast. I loved it so much that even despite its short life, its quality overshadowed everything else I got that gen. But Sega made some dense decisions, mostly related to the Saturn, and those dumb decisions had repercussions that spilled into the Dreamcast. Blaming Sony for Sega's exit from the hardware industry is like blaming Nintendo's current Wii U woes on anyone else but Iwata & Co.

no, but we can admit people have poor taste

I'd go so far as to say Sega's bad decisions started back in the Genesis days. Especially with the little communication between Sega of Japan and Sega of America.

I'll admit people have poor taste. Seriously, what do you expect from polarising game series?

If they want the third installment of this game to have any chance of getting new fans, they'll need to release it in a compilation with a remastered 1 and 2. Or release the remastered compilation of 1 and 2, then release 3.

Or maybe the series is an acquired taste that not everyone holds?

(I believe this to be the case regardless of Shenmue 3 coming out or not, to be honest)

Why do devs troll their fans like that tho? Why is this kind of shit even a thing? Just announce the game already or let it RIP.

I've never played these games before, but I was listening to the orchestrated version soundtrack the other day for Shenmue and got interested in learning more about the games. I was going to watch a let's play of the first game on youtube, but then I changed my mind.

Hopefully there is a HD re-release for the first two. That would be nice. :)

If I show you the sales figures for shenmue will you finally admit the game didn't sell poorly?

This won't be the game you want it to be.

It'll be a mobile game or something, or a movie, or something. Big-budget next-gen Shenmue 3 is not happening.

The death of the arcade market was at least as big of a factor as the failure of the Saturn in Sega's demise. They were actually still turning a profit until 1998.

God I hope it comes out one day. But if not, give the man a chance at something else. Give him funding to make a new game. This guy is a legend!

No they weren't

Yes they were.

How about you just don't buy it if it ever comes out. I don't understand why some people want to spoil other people's fun. I'd never ask a publisher not to release your favorite game just because it's not my cup of tea.

Because much like DriveClub, that (estimated) $20m is being invested into a game I have zero interest in. When it could be poured into another game that I'd prefer.

I'd like to think that post was pretty transparently my selfish opinion. I don't want to deny you guys the game you love, it's just I really would prefer that money go into a game that isn't fan service. Or at least if it IS, it's fan service I care about. :D

Anywho, I got on @NeoGAFShitposts - so it must have been a little bit raw sounding, hope that clears it up for anyone I've hurt.

Yu and devs like him who troll the fan base with false hopes are fucking assholes. Stop beating around the bush douchebag. Announce the game or stop making vague references. Just a shitty excuse to get people to notice him in an attempt to remain relevant. Go join Cliffy

I don't know how you can call an unfinished story "fan service".

There's no way they can make Shenmue III directly and have it sell well, it's been too long. They need to remake Shenmue I+II into a single game that uses the Shenmue III engine first. If that sells well then move on to Shenmue III.

You don't think they would release HD remakes? I think they would.

I counter your unsourced, uncited graph with this:

http://books.google.com/books?id=Db...AEwBA#v=onepage&q=sega losses in 1997&f=false

"By 1997, the sony playstation dominated the video game console market, nintendo was a strong second wiht its N64, and Sega had been reduced to a distant and weak third. That same year, Sega posted one of the largest single-year losses in the comnpany's history at that time; the $398 million bath that sega took in 1997 was one largely of its own pouring."

HD remakes wouldn't be enough they need to make a new engine and new animations if they want to make new fans in 2014+.

They wouldn't have to make a new engine. They'd likely just license UE4 or whatever.

Probably because I am pretty ignorant about and unattached to Shenmue as a series. But also because many financially unviable projects, stop a franchise reaching a conclusion, exploring it's lore fully or fulfilling it's potential.

What I've seen of the game looks VERY similar to a Heavy Rain mechanically (with equally bad writing and acting). And I played Heavy Rain, I actually quite liked it. But I'd be bummed if some of the SCEWWS budget went to Shenmue III and David Cage's next project.

Sorry!

Huh. I had no idea that even existed. Now I know why though!

Okay somehow I feel obligated to do this - It's gonna be one long-ass semi off topic post, tho still on the subject of Sega.

That game is After Burner III in name only -- It's a bastardized port of Sega's arcade 'Strike Fighter' (1991) renamed After Burner III for the Japanese FM-TOWNS computer format in 1992 (playable on the FM Towns Marty console). Then that bastardized port was watered down a bit more for the MEGA-CD / Sega CD released in '92 in Japan, '93 in the west.

Strike Fighter itself was sort of an arcade 'remix' of G-LOC Air Battle (1990). A version was used as the game in Sega's R-360, Sega's full 360 degree motion cab.

All were Sega Y-BOARD games, same as Galaxy Force II and Power Drift.

'Strike Fighter' - 1991 is not to be confused with 'Sega Strike Fighter' - 2000 on Dreamcast-based NAOMI Multiboard Hardware, a game that was closer to the older Namco arcade and PS1 and Air/Ace Combat games and used 1 or 3 screens.

The Model 2 arcade (and Saturn) game Sky Target (mid-late 90s) also loosely fits into the entire lineage.

The entire line 'climaxed', so to speak, with a certain Sega LINDBERGH arcade game in 2006 that was eventually ported to PS3, 360 and most recently, iOS.

Early footage (@ 3:29) of what would later be titled After Burner Climax was shown running on the then-unannounced Lindbergh hardware at E3 2005 at a private showing of next-gen 360/PS3 console & arcade games still in development.

Shenmue III must have
After Burner Climax
as a playable game in one of its arcades even though Shenmue takes place in the 80s! After all, in Shenmue there was a
Saturn console at the Hazuki Residence
, not at all possible in real life before 1994 :p
