Toriyama was very explicit about how he was inspired by western titles like Call of Duty, while making FFXIII.Idk why you think FFXIII is a western aesthetic besides realistic character models but nevertheless time will tell.
Now that you say it...Toriyama was very explicit about how he was inspired by western titles like Call of Duty, while making FFXIII.
No, he wasn't joking.
Over the last 24 hours, we've learned that:
- we're (probably) getting DQXI on PS3/4
- we're (probably) getting DQ VII and VIII on 3DS in the West
- we're getting Zero Escape 3 on 3DS and Vita
So why are we console warring? This is our best shot at peace, guys!
To his credit MW1 was blowing people away on the story presentation front and he likely wanted to try to capture that. Same for Half Life and FFX.Toriyama was very explicit about how he was inspired by western titles like Call of Duty, while making FFXIII.

How much was N64 level? If you mean weekly sales? PS4 was never going to end up close to Dreamcast LTD.sörine;170858669 said:Well it's hard not to imagine some level of improvement given the system's still tracking behind Dreamcast launch aligned. With those 3 games maybe it can bump things up to N64 level?

N64 was around 6m in Japan. I guess it's possible for PS4 to reach those numbers. Maybe.
I just can't see PS4 hitting 6M the way it is tracking. It would need more than a PS3 revitalization. That is why I am skeptical of DQXI on the PS4 or even PS3/PS4.
Well PS4 is tracking at 1 million a year, with a terrible library, so I don't see how 6 million is hard to imagine.I just can't see PS4 hitting 6M the way it is tracking. It would need more than a PS3 revitalization. That is why I am skeptical of DQXI on the PS4 or even PS3/PS4.
PS3/PS4 is not that out there. Plenty of PS3s out there, and many JRPGs and Japanese-centric titles being released for it. I still think it'll hit the 3DS in some way, but if not, I wouldn't be shocked at PS3/PS4.
YES
I'm so happy this is confirmed
Look at what the biggest franchise has sold on the PS3. They've barely broken a million and now the user base isn't as active.
You are telling me a system, the PS3, that can barely sustain million sellers and the PS4 which has a 2M userbase could support a game that has a selling potential of 5m?
Look I have nothing against DQ releasing cross platform I just don't think it is financially feasible.
Hm, I don't know, I still have a hard time believing that it'll be a home console game exclusively, even if the interview seems to infer that. I'm still going to guess it'll end up on the 3DS in some form, I just can't see them leaving that market for DQXI, it just makes no financial and business sense to do so. If the home consoles part of this is accurate, I'll go for 3DS, PS3 and PS4 then.
It's not confirmed at all.
Yuji Horii himself explained it won't be a mobile/handheld game. Read the OP.
Why not?
It's probably coming to Wii U (exclusively) because it's the highest selling home console in Japan.

I take this as a joke post, but Wii U isn't even that, unless we're talking "strictly" next gen consoles, and even at that (minus the suprising Splatoon push) it's losing ground to the PS4.It's probably coming to Wii U (exclusively) because it's the highest selling home console in Japan.
XB1 exclusive for the lulz.I hope it's a Vita exclusive so everyone in this thread is wrong.
But it'll be PS3/PS4 if not just PS4.
Those RPGs aim for worldwide sales though. DQ11 isn't aiming for worldwide sales.Just like all the other big RPGs that SE is putting on the Wii U then. Makes sense
The Wii U has 2.33 million sales in Japan, while the PS4 only has 1.5 millionI take this as a joke post, but Wii U isn't even that, unless we're talking "strictly" next gen consoles, and even at that (minus the suprising Splatoon push) it's losing ground to the PS4.

And why would Square want a series with lower sales than DQ outside of Japan (Nier) to be worldwide but not DQ?Those RPGs aim for worldwide sales though. DQ11 isn't aiming for worldwide sales.
Nier is a niche title, DQ is a flagship and the most iconic, high selling RPG Square has next to Final Fantasy. They have leeway with that, and they put stuff like FFXV and KH3 on PS4/XboxOne because they know it'll sell more in the West than it will in Japan. DQ sells more in Japan than it does in the West, so the logical decision would be to focus on putting it on the best selling console in Japan which is the Wii U.And why would Square want a series with lower sales than DQ outside of Japan (Nier) to be worldwide but not DQ?

So wouldn't it make sense to have their two most iconic series on the same platform rather than make people buy two systems?Nier is a niche title, DQ is a flagship and the most iconic, high selling RPG Square has next to Final Fantasy. That isn't to say they might change their mind, but all you have to do is look at the history of their releases when it comes to Dragon Quest and it should tell you the whole story.

Both series appeals to different fanbases who like different things. And any overlap a fan has with the series probably owns both consoles anyway cause Dragon Quest X is already on the Wii U.So wouldn't it make sense to have their two most iconic series on the same platform rather than make people buy two systems?
Those are spinoffs. So that's why Dragon Quest Heroes and Dragon Quest Heroes 2 are Wii U titles, right?

Best selling home console in Japan is currently the PS3 though. Which is why many are predicting PS3/PS4 if it is home console exclusive. Dragon Quest XI releasing on Wii U is as likely as it releasing on the Xbox One IMO.Nier is a niche title, DQ is a flagship and the most iconic, high selling RPG Square has next to Final Fantasy. 1) With DQH and VII and VIII localizations they seem to have shifted to more of a global approach
2) Even for Japan only PS3/PS4 cross development would make more sense
Those are spinoffs.

Probably a hardware issue and possibly other unknown factors. Regardless even in terms of spinoffs the Dragon Quest series has been consistent in this regard. And?
Why not release the spinoffs on the ultra popular Wii U as well?

IF it's going to be on a current gen system, it's more than likely going to be on the Wii U. I mean yeah the PS3 is a possibility as well and likely, but with Square's shift into current gen exclusivity with games like KH3 and FFXV, I'm not expecting the PS3 to get DQ11 which is just as high priority as those are. FFXV and KH3 are worldwide juggernauts, while DQ11 is onyl a juggernaut in Japan and will be made suited for Japanese needs.
