TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

Anyone know if the shitty red glow all enemy pilots had in the tech tests is gone now or is that still in? I want to say I read that there is a pilot ability or something that uses that but it was on by default in the tests.
It was reduced in the second weekend of the tech test and even more so during the pc play event 2 weeks ago.

Damn. Those are some decent scores. I've been on the fence with this one since the beta. It seems like a good game and I was interested in the original Titanfall when I couldn't play it on the Xbone or PC, but there's a small indication that the playerbase for this one might not be that huge, plus I've got Overwatch to satisfy my shooter needs.

I'll probably wait this one out for a little while post-release to see how it stabilises commercially. There have been games with better scores that have died quickly.

I'm very curious as to how deep the pilot customization will be. I know gender is an option and I'd imagine being a robot is too.

Camping was never a problem in past Titanfall games, and the glow is just a giant "SHOOT ME" sign. They toned it down a bit, but still was annoying as heck as it made sneaking around tough.
I agree but visibility was an issue in the first game for a lot of people.

The glow you see now a lot of time has to do with being pinged by the sonar boost and sonar knife

Batteries, map design, TTK, pilot loadouts, kill streaks vs. burn cards, 3rd person animations, more than a few AI on the map. There are too many good multiplayer games out to waste time on a worse version of Titanfall 1. If they don't fix it why would I buy it?

I guess you are complicated...

Batteries aren't going away. Ttk is the same as titanfall 1. Pilot load outs? What's the problem there? Burn cards sucked ass in titanfall 1 and could break matches from the start. A.i is confirmed for some modes.

From most veterans that have played this recently they All said it's better than the first game.

Agreed on burn cards. I just dont like the amped weapons in this one and worry that people will gravitate towards the most OP Boosts. There is no real reason to use ticks for example

TTK seems fine but the open maps made it hard to judge that. Theres also a lot to dodge in this game like phase shift, stim, etc

People seemed to suggest titans start with batteries, and therfore shields. I feel this would have been much more fun as stealing batteries would result in lost shields.

I need some impressions on all the maps. It genuinely seems they demoed the absolute worst they had.

Yes you can switch between female and male models but the players are locked in to a specific pilot depending on the ability picked.

If you pick stim or phase shift you have no choice but the robos

TTK is much lower due to killstreaks, pilot loadouts are more restricted, batteries are terrible, they showed "attrition" that did not look much like Attrition from the first game. I'll give it an honest shot if they make it more like the first game which was my favorite multiplayer game in the last decade. Otherwise I've got 5 other better multiplayer games to play and just as many single player games.

Nope, Titans don't have female/male versions from what I know.

Customization is:

Pilot skins
Primary weapon skins
Secondary skins

Titan skins
Titan nose art skins
Titan weapon skins

Banners
Patches

Banners and patches are locked away via challenges (kill X enemies, do, etc.) and some are "advocate gifts." Crazy amount of banners and patches for those who want to personalize stuff. I got a few animated ones already. :D

Not that concerned about weapons since they are giving out maps, modes and weapons for free.

I know DLC maps will be free, did they confirm how maps are in the game at launch?

Nine, with Angel City coming in December. :)

Isnt this a good way to stop campers though.

Only shit players camp in TF. Well, TF1 anyway. It will be a lot easier to camp now with tick mines running around and glowing enemies with health bars you can see coming across the open maps. But i guess casuals will love it.

No Titan OS voices?

Laaaaaaame.

I would have bought this if it's release wasn't so close with BF1.. By the time I even get to play this next year the PC Asia server will probably be dead already.

Serious question...what the fuck is up with Polygon? They always seem to be giving out lower scores than other sites, at least in the review threads I've visited.
Not giving them any clicks but I took one look at the score and I'm guessing Arthur Gies reviewed it?

9 maps isn't good. Especially when 3 are the crap ones from the beta. Honestly this game doesn't seem to have much more content other than the campaign.

The DE is only customization items, right? I'm hovering over the preorder button and I'm not sure if that's worth $20 more, or even the $15 more I would be paying thanks to Prime.

Lol what? There's a ton more content. And it's technically 10 maps at launch. Angel city will be available.

Yea I would be fine if they took the beta maps out of the game (at least until they can be fixed), but I think the rest of the maps are going to play similarly due to how the new Titans work. It's a shame.

I really, really doubt that four-hour thing. Unless you played on easy and just knew where to go. I played on hard and I got lost a few times since the game never holds your hand too much. And every segment/stage, there's something new (puzzle, platforming, etc.).

Maybe five hours on "regular?" FPS bros definitely need to play this on hard.

4 hours? Ugh. First Battlefield's 3-4 hour campaign, now this. EA really seems to hate singleplayer fans.

Would you rather have a stellar 4 hour campaign or a shitty 10 hour campaign?

Quality over quantity.

One review said 6-7hrs, one said 6-8hrs, and one said 4 from what I have read. 4 is the outlier so far.

Yeah it was Gamespot if i'm not mistaken (edit: Yep. the Gamespot videoreview).
Anyway, i don't really mind if it's a really good campaign. I loved Portal 1 and 2 and many other short games.

Angel City isn't available until December. It's 9 at launch.

Which honestly is disappointing considering 3 were garbage. Considering the first one had 15 maps all of which were playable I don't see how people can defend it. Yes the maps are free, which is nice, but there still should have been more to begin with.

I don't see anything about it being available at launch. I see it being available to those that preorder 3 days before it releases in December, but nothing about launch.

That's a bummer. It's all cosmetic, but still.

I'll be using the shit out of the grappling hook though.

He addresses this statement in the following sentences. At least read the review if you're going to try to call out his statements.

He doesn't really address that, though? He just states that they have new tests considering it's a sequel. Which is not the same as it being their *first* test.

Sorry but, it's a dumb way to open a review. If this was their first game, it'd make sense, but, it isn't, so, it doesn't.

"Do you want a campaign or do you want more maps at launch? Make up your mind!" - Vince Zampella, probably.

Batteries - see my previous post, I and probably a lot of others have got over it.

Maps - some of the newer maps shown looks great with lots of flanking routes and verticality, and we are getting angel city back soon.

TTK - same as TTF1, really.

Pilot loadouts - Sure the choice between anti-titan and sidearm is a bit confusing, but with the rodeo change (heh) you have plenty of anti titan capability out of the gate, plus the new grenadier class main weapons hurt titans aplenty.

Boosts - they are not killstreaks come on. You gain the charge on everything from killing to doing objective, and you don't lose the charge if you die, and you get to use it only once per titanfall, and the most powerful ones comes way, way later than the instant titans , map hacks, two shot body shot G2A4s, fast locking smart pistols at the start of a match, I'll take it over TF1 burn cards any day.

3rd person animations - you are being seriously offended by that?

AIs - there are plenty if not a ton of AIs in attrition and bounty hunt.

To be fair, on the bright side if there was 15 maps at launch, most if not all of them probably would have followed the 3 lane design they have going on for TF2 which wouldn't have been good. At least after the tech test they know the style of maps people want and all of the free ones will (hopefully) be traditional TF1 maps and Angel City is a good start to that.
