TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

Glad to see that Titanfall 2 is getting decent reviews. The complaints about the campaign length I kind of understand but coming from the first game where there was no campaign really at all I will take a good 5 hour experience anyday. The launch of 9 maps is a bit small but I can't complain when maps are free down the line. It was like that with Halo 5 and I did not mind it at all.

Good reviews.

But man that tech test left the most sour taste in my mouth and I'm not willing to spend $70AU or more to find out if they've legitimately improved it since then.

Better reviews than I expected, but I wish this wasn't coming out so soon after BF1. Maybe I'll get it around December or January though.

Shieeeeet, 88??

I simply don't have time for another shooter this Holiday, but I'll pick it up later.
Congrats to Respawn!

Last year my shooter of choice was BO3. This year I'm getting all of the big ones and deciding from there.

BF1 is great, but the framerate on PS4 is terrible, so I don't see myself sticking with it past week 1. And with all the issues in IW, I might end up landing on TF2 for the rest of the year.

I must be in the minority but I really liked the burn cards. Made it more tactical, especially when up against powerful teams, and also gave the gameplay for variety by rewarding you for completing tasks.

Is the framerate that bad for BF1?

Angel City isn't available until December. It's 9 at launch.

Which honestly is disappointing considering 3 were garbage. Considering the first one had 15 maps all of which were playable I don't see how people can defend it. Yes the maps are free, which is nice, but there still should have been more to begin with.
For some reason i thought it was releasing in november. Yeah, that's a little annoying that it's in december. 9 maps is pretty low but i'm confident we'll be getting a lot of DLC for this game, and the maps and everything will be free.

TTK is much lower due to killstreaks, pilot loadouts are more restricted, batteries are terrible, they showed "attrition" that did not look much like Attrition from the first game. I'll give it an honest shot if they make it more like the first game which was my favorite multiplayer game in the last decade. Otherwise I've got 5 other better multiplayer games to play and just as many single player games.

TTK is the same dude. It felt lower in the tech test for other reasons, like yes the boosts but the boosts have been balanced and if they need to be balanced again i'm sure they'll do it.

Batteries are not terrible. At first i didn't much like it either but realizing what it adds to the gameplay, and how it fixes some really annoying aspects from the first game (like always capping flags on the back of a titan) i think the batteries could end up being a great change.

Attrition plays just like the first game. Not sure what you're talking about here? And it still gives me a chuckle when someone claims how good Titanfall 1 was when they basically stayed within Attrtion. The brilliance of Titanfall isn't unlocked until you play CTF ;)

Batteries aren't going away. Ttk is the same as titanfall 1. Pilot load outs? What's the problem there? Burn cards sucked ass in titanfall 1 and could break matches from the start. A.i is confirmed for some modes.

From most veterans that have played this recently they All said it's better than the first game.

Yup. 100% right on all cases.

I mean wasn't it tied to that robot class? Did they finally free it and gave it to everyone or do you still have to choose that class for grapple?

they changed it. the grapple pilot is human now, and actually is the best looking pilot class.

Yep I missed those. Sucked having everyone just running around with amped weapons in the beta instead.

Pilot loadout is still free to customize, only your *look* is determined by your active ability.

You also have another 11 to choose from in the final game, take your pick.

Decided to pick it up after GameStop has the $20 off coupon for the game if you got the EA Pro Pass for buying Madden near launch. All the other games had $10 coupons but Titanfall's is $20 for some reason.

I think the campaign is gonna be a fun 5-6 hours. I'll test out multiplayer but I doubt I'll touch the game after Call of Duty comes out.

I've gotta say, it's trending higher than I thought it would after the beta. I still think I'll hate the MP

I may have to give it a chance after all... I just hate that so many Fps come out at the same time every year.

I may have to buy this. I wasn't going to (I was just going to rent it), but the reviews are really good and I liked the original quite a bit.

My problem is that I don't play multiplayer a lot, so I'll need to either up that or maybe not make the purchase. I'm most interested in the campaign, tbh.

This had nothing to do with review scores I swear. PSN Store can be frustrating and time consuming.

I believe in you, Respawn! Please don't let me down :D

Well damn better reviews that I thought! I predicted an 85 overall and so far doing better than that.

Really excited to jump into this game, glad that they built a solid campaign. This genre needs more solid single player modes.

OP you're missing a few scores there

DigitalTrends - Score: 90 / 100
"Titanfall 2 is the ideal version of developer Respawn Entertainment’s 2014 high-speed shooter, expanding and improving on it in every way. It’s constantly, consistently fun, and as the shooter field diversifies away from present-day military style games to include fast and vertical movement, Titanfall 2 has honed and refined the original’s best ideas to make a game that feels fun, and has a knack for facilitating awesome chance encounters."

GameCrate - Score: 90 / 100
"Titanfall 2 is the sequel that Titanfall fans wanted. A great and satisfying single player campaign. A filled out and content rich multiplayer. And a host of new titans with their own characteristics and specialties. Titanfall 2 is definitely a winner."

JeuxVideo (French) - Score 85 / 100
"Titanfall 2 est une vraie réussite. Grâce à son multi surboosté, auréolé de modes de jeux variés (dont l’excellent Bounty Hunt), ou encore grâce à ses classes de titans et à son éventail d’armes et de capacités, le titre s’assure une bonne durée de vie en ligne."

Stevivor (Very minor SPOILERS) - Score: 80 / 100
"Titanfall 2 returns with Respawn’s fluid gameplay loop, contrasting the mobility of pilots against the bulky power of titans. Boiled down to its core tenets, Titanfall 2 retains the same highly engaging combat. Some quite significant changes have been made to more superficial gameplay – some good, some bad and some needless – but the basics remain constant."

Batteries - see my previous post, I and probably a lot of others have got over it.

The Polygon review was the only one I've read so far (and I've read quite a few) which went into more detail about multiplayer mechanics and how things changed from the first Titanfall. And I don't really like what they described.

I liked the beta more than most, but Titan survivability is still what I'm most worried about, and Polygon's review doesn't make me feel any better about it, while other reviews simply haven't mentioned it at all.

I can't find your previous post either in this thread or in your post history. Can you describe what you're referring to or link me to the specific post? I'm genuinely curious to read more about the new battery system, how it works, and why you think it's not an issue for Titanfall 2.

While playing the beta I just didn't see much at all about the battery system so I'm pretty unfamiliar with how it works as a whole.

Burn cards were horrifically broken. I'm 50th percentile in FPSs at best and that's being generous, but the right burn card would unfairly lift me into semi-pro territory and it just felt dirty.

Here is me having way too much advantage with a burn card: https://youtu.be/TUlA_imR7YE

There was nothing tactical about dropping a titan as soon as the game started. Burn cards were out of hand RNG gameplay ruining enhancers

But boosts are problematic. Even if you get some later in the meter, you are always going to get it in a round

And there is an obvious misbalance with them. They really should cost titan meter. There is currently no sacrifice in using them. Either use up meter as you see fit, or jump into your titan

No one would ever use ticks over amped weapons, regardless of one costing more than the other

I'm not that great of a player, but I liked burn cards more in theory than in practice. While they were fun, they were also too chaotic, and shuffling through them all between rounds was just annoying after a while and distracted me from spending more time on my pilot/titan loadouts.

I'm not saying it is not an issue. The removal of body shields + batteries change the dynamics of pilot vs titan by a lot, rodeo is now predictable and not necessarily devastating, which may or may not be a bad thing depending on the situation, and I do agree it lowers the skill ceiling by a fair bit as one pilot can not do as much damage to enemy titans as he/she wants any more, which makes newer players a lot less stressful in a titan.

On the other hand, Titan vs Titan combat is a lot slower and methodical than TTF1, but in LTS the on map battery pick ups is an interesting choice.

*high-five*

I thought the same damn thing and am glad to see someone else say it. Whenever I talk up Titanfall I only talk about CTF.

Nice. My main issue with the grappling hook was that I didn't want to have the robot aspect, even if I suppose you barely see it ingame. :D

which is dumb. titanfall would benefit a great deal from being on steam. i'm surprised Respawn didn't attempt to make it happen

Overwatch would benefit from being on Steam too, but having their own store means they don't have to give 30% of the revenue to Valve. The money on Origin is only split between EA and Respawn so they each get a larger percentage.

TF1 launched with 15maps? Didn't seem like there were that many

A larger percentage of a much smaller amount of cash. Overwatch would benefit from being on Steam, yes, but it's not losing out because it's not since Battle.net and Blizzard are massive and have proven they don't need Steam to sell product and retain healthy playerbases. The only games that do well on Origin are ones from series established before its existence and EA's decision to pull everything from Steam. There's a reason why most third parties have given up on putting their games on it.

Apparently they don't see a benefit in going back to Steam, or they would.
