TITANFALL 2 Reviews Thread

I feel like their reasons for not going back are strictly political at this point.

Partially I'm sure, but they're also in a much better place financially now then they were a few years ago (even than they were before they left Steam) so they probably just don't see a need to.

I'll wait for actual impressions here regarding the campaign. Even though some of the reviewers praised it, it sounds- at best - like nothing special.

So gears mp is kind of ridiculous how good people are

Battlefield I would feel like I should be playing on pc

People say the new cod sucks

Maybe I should be playing tf2.....

I liked all the original maps. And among the additional ones, I only dislike Swampland. I'm not even sure why, probably the trees that block all lines of fire.

The DLC was amazing, I don't often buy DLC like that but the TF season pass was well worth the $7.50 or whatever it was I paid for it

I really hope they remaster War Games, that was the best map in TF1. Sublime map.

This might not be the place for it, but I'm gonna get more aggressive with my prediction for Infinite Warfare: 68% on opencritic (4 points lower than Ghosts).

If there's one thing the original Titanfall was good at, it was creating a level playing field. I never once felt like I was outmatched.

Angel City isn't available until December. It's 9 at launch.

Which honestly is disappointing considering 3 were garbage. Considering the first one had 15 maps all of which were playable I don't see how people can defend it. Yes the maps are free, which is nice, but there still should have been more to begin with.

I wouldn't call them garbage. They're just the kind you don't want to have too much of. Titanfall had similar maps as well. It's good to have maps that offer different gameplay.

I think I have to get this. I bitched so long and loud about no campaign, And then they added it.m. I feel I owe them a purchase.

I've played through the first three chapters or so.

It hasn't blown me away or anything BUT I actually think it stands a chance of being a better campaign than any other competing shooter this holiday (well, unless you count Gears 4, but that's kind of a different thing).

It's less scripted feeling that a Call of Duty campaign and there are more quiet moments in between battles. I like the pacing and how you switch up between platforming areas, Titan based areas, light navigation, and various types of combat.

Early on, after you get your Titan, you reach a massive gate blocking the way. You obviously have to figure that out. So you jump out, take out some enemies, and then you end up going deep into the level of with some platforming and wall running followed by a long distance battle before meeting up with a friendly squad where you engage in close quarters before you find a way to clear the path for your Titan.

Simple, right? Sure, but there is something satisfying to that type of basic problem solving that is missing in Call of Duty or Battlefield. You gain more of an attachment to the level itself rather than just bust through each zone. It's also possible to fight more aggressively and actively more like Halo than Cod, where I feel you have to hold back and take out enemies from a distance as they pour into the scene.

There haven't been any of those "enemy spawn" battles either where they just pour troops into an area endlessly. You sometimes approach camps where you can see all of the enemies. It's possible to get the drop on them, Crysis style, but the AI really isn't tuned for stealth gameplay, unfortunately. Still, it's closer to Halo or Crysis at that point than CoD.

Again, I'm only a short way in, but I do think it seems like it could be a solid campaign.

I seriously want this game, then I realized that I would have no friends (I have friends, just they won't play this one, I don't think) to play with. While I think I'll have fun, it would definitely have a better stay with some close friends to play with people.

Attrition was (generally) pretty good for all skill levels. Even in a game that had amazing players, you had something to shoot at, you'd get your titan and could have a nice score even in some shutout scenarios. Combine that with the epilogue, even escaping with your life could be it's own victory.

Bruh if you are getting it on PC hit me up. I will be in the exact same situation as you.

The campaign is worthy eh.
On my radar now.

'This isn’t just an unexpectedly great FPS campaign. It’s a genuinely special one. The kind that doesn’t come along very often, but shakes up perceptions of the genre the instant it appears. Frankly, it’s ridiculous that we get this in the same year as Doom. But get it we do. And change things it really does.'

Sounds great doesn't it?

Never played Titanfall 1 since I'm not all that into online shooters anymore but this does look interesting and I heard it has a solo campaign as well. Keeping an eye on this.

You can join a NeoGAF network. Simple as opening the game and viola.

The scores are encouraging on aggregate, but man, that Polygon review pretty much crystallizes all my worst fears about the new MP balance coming out of the beta. :(

Cobalt Izuna has generously made a spreadsheet that you can use to party up with other GAF folks. There'll also be a GAF network on every platform at launch.

Quote to see the spreadsheet link.

like someone else has said there's something cool now called "networks". you'll see the gaf network, you'll see the reddit network, you'll probably find a whole bunch of other ones so you'll always have someone to play with. this is such an underappreciated and talked about feature.

When is OP gonna update the first page? there's more reviews coming out.

Thanks for the heads up. I did pre-order the game through Amazon so I can get it on Friday, but it will only be $50 and I get the full pre-order bonuses :).

I hope this is good.

FYI, I only played a bunch of the original game and none of the beta for TF2.

Seems like SP, MP, controls, and content are universally praised.

Notable "critiques" seem to be story (lol) and SP length (5 hours is fine in my book)

Pre-ordered.

Two more reviews.

GameRevolution - Score: 80 / 100
"8 months after Respawn Entertainment debuted their big proof-of-concept project, Titanfall 2 delivers on the promise made by such an idea, and amazingly, goes even further. The single-player campaign is a blast while the multiplayer is solid if only slightly underwhelming."

USGamer (SPOILERS) - Score: 80 / 100
"Although it's a little on the short side, and its production values are a bit oldschool, Titanfall 2's single-player campaign is a really enjoyable experience while it lasts. It's very inventive and fun, and a great warm-up for the game's excellent multiplayer component, whose gunplay and controls are absolutely outstanding. All it needs is a few more maps and modes."

At least they add maps and modes for free, like the first game did. I think one of the biggest concerns it did to me from coming back to play more was the lack of weapons and number/types of titans. It seems to be fixed in this one.

Now I'm trying to decide if i want to grab it for PC.

Games with low populations survive with Server Browsers and I'm afraid matchmaking is just going to go the way of TF1 just faster this time thanks to BF1 and COD.

Initial reviews seem positive. What's the word on the single player campaign? Decent or a quick, generic go from a to b and beat the boss?

Most reviewers saying game is improved in multiplayer and especially in solo campaign.
After the much criticized open beta, these reviews are a genuine surprise.

Most reviewers wouldn't have been all that into Titanfall 1. Given TF2 multiplayer feels so much like CoD now, I can understand the "improved multiplayer" calls. Given they all love CoD.

that's a ridiculous assumption and none of the videos posted by frothy show me a "cod feel"

The tech test did and the map design played a fairly significant role in that.

Ultimately, I can't get on board. Not this time. Rodeoing forces team work where the option may not exist, bots have been reduced significantly, maps are more linear, weapon count reduced to 2. There's just too many changes from the original that for ME, aren't for the better.
