It's a musical. I took him to see Book of Mormon last year (it was excellent) his first musical and he loved it. He's been on at me to go and see Charlie and the Chocolate Factory for ages but I keep putting him off, he has no idea I've bought tickets for Valentine's Day.

Yeah I was going to see Book of Mormon last year for my birthday but tickets were sold out until July. So saw Wicked instead which was really good. One of my mates who lives in London wants to see Book of Mormon too so hopefully I'll get to see it soon.

Bought tickets for a marathon Stewart Lee gig on the 15th Feb at the Southbank. He's doing 3hrs, 45mins! Can't wait. He's up and down the country during late Jan and early Feb so if anyone's in the mood for some top notch stand up, you can't go wrong.

You absolutely do.

Cool, we had a bit of a Lee and Herring natter last thread too. I saw Lee last year and he was tops, going to see Herring in March as well. Completing the set! As a fat nervy man, Herring speaks to me on a more personal level.

edit: also if you have time you should hook up with BGAF at some point, they're having a minimeet for Mikeside.

Not seen Herring live, but I do rate him. Used to love TMWRNJ back in the day (especially master of hobbies, Simon Quinlank).

Went to the BritGAF xmas meet which was pretty cool, so hopefully will come along again in the future. Sunderland may not be feasible, but I'll keep my eyes and ears open as they crop up.

Podcast nerd fist bump! The question about the ham hand and sunblock armpit proves fascinating in a group of drunk people :) that episode with Ross Noble was especially great, had me pealing with laughter on the bus like a loon.

Musha, I saw that Reel Big Fish/Less Than Jake thing months ago, I meant to give you a heads up! It must have slipped my mind. :/

Do you fancy J5 in June Mike?

Anyone else fancy going to see Jurassic 5?

Yeesss!

"Drink your weak lemon drink, NOW!"

Also, the Northern Meet night out is actually going to be Newcastle, just in case a raucous night out in the party Mecca that is Sunderland was too intimidating or something. ;)

Newcastle's meant to have amazing nightlife I've heard. I'm going up to look at the uni in February mid-week. Got any recommendations for good clubs and bars? Ideally somewhere where there's students and not meatheads.

Wait, you're going to Download this year? Did I know this?

Also on a scale of 1-10, how upset would you be if I bailed on your birthday drinks?

Depends on the reason... I guess 7 but then I bailed on yours...

Couldn't get Glastonbury tickets and Zahra invited me to Download... I'd always rather be at Glastonbury, though.

Fond memories of the arm and smashing Stewart Lee's cupboards.

Armando and Linehan were my fave guests.

I saw Fist of Fun live when I was 14, does that count?

The boy I was with got picked on by Richard and when he did the driving instructor he came into the audience and pretty much humiliated him (in a funny way) .

I'm not sure about how funny Stewart Lee is though, even though I like him.

Ooh me too! I've been a fan since TMWRNJ. Pretty much seen / bought everything both of them have done since then.

My bro got me the Fist Of Fun DVD for Christmas, and I'm seeing Stewart Lee on Saturday. Aceness :)

Yeah, it's pretty good. It depends what you want to listen to. Judging from your previous posts, I'd recommend:

The Head of Steam, Venue, Legends, The Cluny and Trillians.

Digital is wicked if you like your electro. So is Electric Ballroom but I haven't been there in years, not sure if it's still open. They have a pretty sweet Tiger Tiger too if that's your bag, loads of different rooms playing a variety of music.

Cool.

There are a few different shows dotted around the country, so I'll see who wants to go out of my pals and let you know.

Thanks man I'll try and check some of those out. Tiger Tiger kind of sounds like Gatecrasher in Birmingham. I had an awesome night out there. Then went back last year during the week and it was dead.

You know how I moan about how draining my job is and my mental health and all that? Today has been mellow mellow. I'm even set to leave at 5.30! You don't need to know this, but I need to share it.

Digital is exactly like Gatecrasher, it's where they used to hold it in the North-East.

Man, Gatecrasher, that brings back memories! I used to properly buzz off that stuff, got every compilation as soon as they came out.

Sooooo, I've fully finally broken up with the girlfriend. Set up a schedule for looking after my daughter, and I'm moving back to my parents' house next week (sigh)

On the plus side, I was absolutely fucking gobsmacked at the £4k that appeared in my account earlier thanks to an anonymous donation (obviously my grandparents, but they won't admit it), and now I've paid off ALL of my debt.

and with living at my parents, now I'm earning enough to save £1k a month which is enough to get a baller savings account sorted before I can sort out this house buying malarky which they're helping with

hooray

also, Tesco and Co-Op fresh pizzas are FUCKING AMAZING. I'm gonna make a thread about it, they're damn good

edit: and I fixed the doors in my shitty fiesta

Yes!

I'm actually really, REALLY looking forward to having no rent or bills at all again (apart from phone contract and my car). I've been basically on the poverty line since I was 18, purely due to essentially growing up too fast (taking on rented property in this expensive county, having a kid, working as a manager in a stressful job and being paid fuck all). And now I can just chill out and relax, and save up to try again, but this time doing it all correctly whilst I have a job I enjoy.

And I get to spend every weekend with my daughter, which is amazing. And possibly get into a relationship with someone who isn't a complete fucking nutjob.

Sweet I'll probably try there then. Hopefully it won't be a sausagefest.

Yep, first of the two shows. Really enjoyed it, despite them not playing debaser or any of the songs Kim would do, like Gigantic.

I was at that one! The Sunday one right? We might have walked right past each other. I was the guy wearing the ten-year old 'Doolittle' shirt that was clearly from a thinner time in his life (I know that doesn't narrow it down much at a Pixies gig :p).

Yeah, it was a good gig. They always have a bunch of energy, and they don't even let you catch your breath between songs. New Kim did a great job, but I guess she didn't want to do any lead singing.

Well...

...one of the buildings I maintain is getting it's basement transformed into a bar. This has caused no end of problems with false calls on the fire alarm system for the past few months as they haven't covered the detectors up, so they're all full of brick dust and shit.

So yesterday, a contractor from IDS (fire alarm specialists) came to put the thing right. Only he didn't, and left an open circuit on one of the loops. So I spent all morning trying to locate said fault, a task made much more difficult by an ancient fire alarm panel that gives you fuck all information.

By lunchtime I was no further forward, so I fucked it off and drove through to Durham to do some work. Had a nice chilled afternoon catching up on some paperwork and listening to tunes. Then I came home about half 3.

So a shit morning, but a fairly good afternoon.

("Cool story bro", you did ask!)

Sweet I'll probably try there then. Hopefully it won't be a sausagefest.
It's usually full of hot sweaty chicks dressed for the beach, tastefully adorned with luminous body paint.

And gurning Geordie meatheads.

I think I deserve a little break. Spent 5 hours writing and brainstorming ideas before having to go to the Job Centre for an appointment.

Also heard about Roger Lloyd Pack. :(. He was always one of my favourites in OFAH.

Sounds good - like perfect time to clear your head and start fresh. It's January too, so perfect timing - bonus!

So my little girl is all poorly and moody and, ugh, I hate seeing her like that. We cuddled up and watched Tangled for a bit, cooked her some dinner, ran her a bath and then put her to bed. Then, as I was going to leave, the ex told me we 'need to talk'...

Well, I don't know whether it's good or bad. We're not 'talking' until tomorrow night. I'm not going to think about it. For the moment, I'm just happy I got to snuggle up with my little girl and watch Tangled. No matter how shitty a day I have, a cuddle with Anna-Lily and it's smiles all round.

Well let's hope it's a good talk. Fingers crossed for you. And hope your daughter feels better soon.

I was wide awake last night at about 4am, fixing myself something to eat in the kitchen. It's always that piercing silence that gets me, you know? It puts you in thinking mode and there's nothing to interrupt the sound of your own thoughts; you're stuck with that voice in your head and you just have to listen to it. Randomly started thinking about stuff in the past and I realised something about someone else in regards to myself and now I feel kind of weird. I just remember this situation a couple of months ago, where I was sitting at a train station with some people. Something that happened during a conversation we had never actually seemed weird to me, but last night I realised that this persona I've built up over the years - keeping in mind this is like bottle I've kept closed for fucking YEARS in order to stop other people getting too close - had a hole in it. It took me two months to realise that someone managed to pinpoint my biggest insecurity and stop someone else from denting at it by accident. One of the reasons I've always bottled stuff up is so that I can stop these kinds of insecurities getting played on, but the one time that someone realised it was there, they stopped someone else from accidentally playing on it.

I'm not sure how to feel about it, honestly. I'm pretty open when there's a keyboard in front of me, but in person? Naw.

Anyway, I forgot to do this.
