Death Stranding Discussion (12/2016 trailer)

If anyone is still wondering what the skeletons are (or rather were):

They are WWII US paratroopers with M1 Carbines, as they were deployed in Normandy. The tank is most likely a M10 Wolverine and the planes are definitely WWII US Air force as well.

Guyz, we'll have to fight the D-Day Legion of the Dead. Guess hopping into a boad to get away won't be an option :p.

Damn. They even got the helmet markings of the 101st Airborne Div from WWII. (They got fake insignia though)

That's the longest teaser i've ever seen tbh.
So,Del Toro is in the game? Maybe it's kojima's kind of way of announcing his involvement with the game, just like him appearing in those side-ops in mgsv.

Wasn't it said before that the pachinko business isn't exactly lucrative? That said, I'm sure Konami has some nice casino plans ready

Yes, pachinko business is down (or was down). SNK pulled out of it and re-entered the gaming industry because of it. Konami just doubled down on pachinko, hoping things will go alright.

Strange that Sony haven't upload the trailer to any of their channels. Too scare to accidentally leak anything PSX related?

Might be dumb question..

But..

Are these scenes gonna be in the full game? Or is this still a concept?

Well, if we take the first MGSV footage as an example then these scenes could very well end up in the game, maybe in a slightly different form.

But hey, it's Kojima, who knows ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Did Until Dawn and MGS4 (even if it was still under Konami's supervision and not having Sony deeply involved with funds, engine and shooting studio like with Death Stranding) get released anywhere else?
You got your answer.

You don't know what rights they have to the engine etc, so that doesn't really work out. Besides, the info about a PC version came from Sony itself (coms investor brief on the partnership), and was removed by them after it got attention - whether that is still valid or not is another question though - can't be proved either way for now, and likely not till long after the game is out

Death Stranding is really Knack 2

Cerny supercharged the shit out of Knack then

No idea. The first trailer seemed like a concept with the game being in pre-production at the time. This one seems more realised and I can see it being used in the game but there's no way of knowing.

I was wondering the same too. The first trailer wasn't uploaded on their main channel too and it barely surpassed 1 million views on Kojima Productions Channel. Viewers tend to check the offical Playstation channel more than the dedicated companies channels. If it was uploaded on the Playstation channel, it would have got millions of views like with God Of War.

I thought was emphasis at the game awards was to be on gameplay?

Looks like Kojima is making a CG movie?

Has anyone seen even 1 second of gameplay footage from this yet?

Not exactly sure what I should be getting hyped for?

so my take is that the Death Stranding name references the cables/wires coming out from the guy to the dead soldiers. You think we will be able to control multiple dead people/things to complete missions.

Probably completely off the mark here.

I thought the first one wasn't uploaded due to the nudity but it is strange that this one wasn't uploaded either.

That was when Kojima first announced his new company that he discussed getting a third party engine for that at that time and didn't decide back then. Now that he got all the support from Sony including their own engine, funds and shooting studios, the game was highligjting PS4 since E3 and now the at VGA the credits and all the infos tend to one direction.

It's okay, you don't need to get hyped. I'm not expecting gameplay to be ready to get shown off until 2018.

It's like knowing you'll be going to a restaurant for the first time where one of the greatest chefs will be making your food.

This is serving such Gyo realness that I wonder if Junji Ito is involved in the project. He was attached to Silent Hills, after all.

Again - you don't know the details behind the contracts, wait and see. Sony will shout it from the roof tops if this is the case. Edit - and of course it is highlighting PS4, just as the announcement of partnership was laden with Sony branding - that changes nothing when the statement was that it would be exclusive to PS4 first. This is par for the course in that case

I can't be excited on this.

This showed me nothing at all of the game!

Eh, its clearly deliberately teasing / piquing interest at this point - it's showing characters, tone/mood, setting/location, somewhat of an idea of time period, nice graphics which were claimed to be running in real time. I think it showed plenty for a game that's likely 2-3 years from release.

Even if they showed gameplay it would likely change drastically between now and release so this was more than enough in my book.

Also it's not like any game he's released has had underwhelming gameplay of all things so I don't see the cause for concern.

Love the music, love Del Toro, love the Junji Ito inspired visuals, not really clear on the jar baby or equipment turning into fiery ashes, but whatever.

It's strange to me that younger people recognize super archetypal music from the 80s as related to a 2010s tv show that has a strong 80s vibe.

I watched lots of 80s scifi growing up, but I would still associate that with Stranger Things first just because it brought back the feeling for me and is the most recent thing I've watched that has that sort of music.

Not only that, Kojima watched Stranger Things, so it's not that much of a stretch to think it had some influence on his choice for this trailer given the juxtaposition. Follow the man's twitter and you'll find examples of him being into some band or old movie and then it ends up as an homage in his next trailer/game.

^Yeah the analogy of being invited to dine with a top chef is a good one. Kojima isn't going to mess up gameplay or mechanics more than likely, he's got a long track record of not doing that.

It doesn't mean you'll love the game, but him making something that is polished mechanically simply isn't likely at this point. Showing off setting, characters and tone is fine for the first couple trailers.

Kojima ambition + great actors + interesting setting and what looks to be amazing art design. Use your imagination a little bit it's fun, no one is saying it's guaranteed to be great. I will say it's guaranteed that they will try to make it something unique and great which also has people excited.

Insane and weird as hell but color me super intrigued and excited.....cannot wait to see what this game is all about.

He's more likely inspired by the several 80's movies he talks about and is influenced by all the time. He seemed to enjoy Stranger Things because of the inspiration it drew from his favorite films, but I doubt it would be one of his biggest influences. Like I said above, the music in this trailer has some John Carpenter vibes, and if you recall JC is one of Kojimas all time favorite filmmakers.
