First ever DriveClub direct feed racing footage (GamesCom)

I've been trying to keep up with this thread but why are people crapping on this game's visuals now?

It seems like it went from "Meh" at E3, to everybody saying it was the best looking racing game out there after the more recent footage, and now it's back to not looking great?

People just have no patience...dont get mad people...you know its true :) . The game is gonna be free to play for like a year, there is no need to see the game, read reviews, get gafs reaction etc, its gonna be in your hands and on your tv, day one, free. If you like it, you upgrade or buy retail, if not, you melt your face on resogun.

I understand why you want split screen, but you make it sound as if it's unusual for racing games not to have them these days. a good chunk of great racers last gen were missing the feature.
I wouldn't know, I haven't bought those games and I'm glad I didn't. I think there was a burnout game that had the same problem. I had so much fun with the ps2 version but skipped any version without split screen. I just cannot comprehend how that is even allowed to happen in a racing game. It's truly mind boggling.

Because catering to the number of people who still play split screen isn't worth it for most racing game developers. It's not mind boggling at all, it's just business. Every feature in a game costs time and money.

Insecurity.

There have been a few new videos (NOT DC! but hey, Cerny speaking Japanese on the subject of Knack - fanboi wet dream stuff) up on the ps yt channel in the last few hours, I'll keep checking back with fingers crossed.

Given that Sony PR is now busy preparing for TGS, the videos that Rushy sent them are now buried in a queue and we should see them a week or so after TGS. :p

Well this freaking sucks :'(

Anyway, Rushy, can you give us any info on Driveclub at TGS beforehand? Will there be more tracks, vehicles, will you guys show more of the game concepts, etc?

Cockpit adjustments for perfecting the FOV and the option to remove the virtual steering wheel and animated hands is a feature of almost all PC driving sims. Unfortunately, it is rarely implemented in console games. The multi-monitor settings of GT5 are fairly good for setting a realistic FOV, although sadly you can't turn the wheels or hands off.

Rushy... can we have an option to remove the steering wheel to have this Camera view? Would it be too complicated down the road?

And they made him a Lord of Cinder. Not for virtue, but for might. Such is a lord, I suppose. But here I ask. Do we have a sodding chance?
I thought people said 60fps HD footage would show up yesterday? What happened?

Some Sony PR person is watching it for the 100th time on his 60" bravia. "hmm, I can't really make up my mind, I'll think about it again tomorrow"

That's what I thought at first. Not sure.

Same here. The IQ was shocking. There were 720p games without AA that I though looked cleaner on current gen consoles.

I've already entertained the idea that some TVs are calibrated wrong.

Chances are they have the sharpness setting too high.

Looks barely above current gen to me. I'm getting a PS4 and not a XB1, so I'm not biased in that way. I just think it doesn't look very good. I remember the original Drive Club teaser looked fucking amazing from the quick few shots we saw. Everything after that has looked like crap. I guess Killzone might be my only launch game :(

Sounds good, I always trust Alan. A shame he did not get chance to play it more.

well, the important thing here -contrary to gaf saying- is not trees or lights, its how it plays.
and Alan there was quite positive, describing basically a nice, easy and intuitive handling model.
it is really a shame that we have a large number of car racing games, and only a handful of them are actually interesting when actually ..playing them.

hopefully driveclub will achieve to be on the handful of games side. 8)

now, if they would send the lumberjacks in to cut down some distant forest, and up the framerate and sense of speed a bit, i would be even happier.
just sayin'

I have to set the sharpness on my Panasonic plasma to 1 to stop this from happening. Doesn't prove that it's a calibration issue though.

Saw it at Gamescom. It looks well, well ahead of current gen games. The lighting and shadowing in particular are fantastic.

As i said earlier, badly calibrated lcd or plasmas in game shows can be really bad. I played Mario 3D world at Japan Expo and i swear the comparison between the tv and the gamepad was like tomb raider on sega saturn IQ against a smooth supe sampled pc bullshot. Contrast was off the limits, horrible colors, sharpening... You couldn't recognize the game.

Now.. I realllly don't get why big brand like Nintendo, or Sony in that case cannot make sure that their soon to launch new console is showcased properly ... And you know.. Sony makes tv :p

Even my local Superfi shop (local med/high end AV specialists) don't know enough to turn off frame interpolation/intelligent smoothing/soap opera effect on their demo TVs, so what chance do games companies have?

Maybe they should turn it on so they can say "60FPS!" and shut everyone up ;)
