The reason this announcement didnt feel as "strong" or as a main title in the series instead of a spin off was because it lacked the EXTREME title sequences MonHun usually have had recently just look at XX's

Machine gun looks ridiculous but I'm liking everything else I've seen about this game
Tbf, that specific weapon has been in the series for several generations (at least).

I think this game looks hot as hell, this was up there as the most hype reveal for me next to Metroid Prime 4 and the Odyssey trailer.

So glad this isn't a PS4 exclusive, can't wait to have a good MH on the PC.

So basically it's MH5 and an evolution to the series? Sounds amazing. No complaints with any of the info so far. Easiest day one in a while.

4chan leak did a lot of damage for folks I think. Lots of worrying about it being "dumbed" down when it's seemingly not the case at all.

Finally! After 12 years MH will be back at it's origin. Btw., I am still missing one Rathian Plate on PS2 for full Dragon Armor...

I can only hope the 4chan post is not something that got a lot of play outside of spheres like GAF and other hyper-interested discussion boards. The bulk of information it claims about gameplay is basically wrong, and the rest is unprovable tripe about internal strife at Capcom.

Pretty much. I don't think it did as it seems impressions in Japan are fairly positive and I'm sure impressions that are currently negative will change as we see more gameplay.

I don't even have issues with stuff like quicker potions on the go. I think of something like Dark Souls > Bloodborne where potions on the go meant more aggressive enemies to balance it out.

Hail, peons, for I have come as ambassador from the great and bountiful Blueberry Butt Explosion
Yeah but this also seems to make positioning ind the insect glaive obsolete. Really hated this in Toukiden...

Given that you could choose a style that let you jump in MHXX, the insect glaive was already rendered obsolete, if jumping was your reason for using it.

so MH used to be a stealth game? no troll, serious question

World isn't a stealth game. There are some stealth elements present in this entry, but we still don't know how much they're implemented, and I doubt they'll be that crucial, as they seem more like an alternative way to approach some combat situations.

All those details sound awesome and im still in for the pc release.

I do wonder what is the plan for japan and their love for portable mh.

I still want my mhxx capcom, 3ds still exists you know?

MH5 (which is really just MH P5) will probably come out on 3ds/Switch.

If the previous discussions on this subject are any indication, there are people claiming that it would be too much change to design the game in such a way that you didn't have to do tons of outside research to adequately progress. Compared to that the stuff like movement during potion use is paltry.

No stop to use potions? So now there's no risk to healing? I need to see what they've actually done to that. I wouldn't mind this change if only it was something similar to estus drinking in Souls, where you move a lot slower and are still penalised for healing during a fight.

...c'mon man, don't be obtuse. Given MTF was supposedly 'abandoned' at the time, the logical assumptions would be PR (they might have re purposed Deep Down concepts for MH) or UE4. Most (all?) UE4 games have the logo at some point in their trailers, so its absence lead me to believe an in-house engine. What next-gen engine was Capcom working on before RE Engine? PR.

Shit was dropped with Deep Down and they introduced a new engine with RE7 while using only UE4 for two new titles. Everything else is re-releases of Mt Framework titles.

Given that you could choose a style that let you jump in MHXX, the insect glaive was already rendered obsolete, if jumping was your reason for using it.
I'm not going to disagree here. Because Capcom always managed later on to make specialist weapons almost obsolete. Why use hammer, when CB does a better job stunning monsters and offers higher dps?

yes you're right it isn't. But why were they pushing the stealth elements so much? u know you don't have to answer that because i already know.

It still might be. They just needed to gut that stupid animation at the end really.

I wouldn't say they're pushing it. They showed him sneak past a group of enemies and wade through grass past a larger enemy with a silly hat. It not going to be Skyrim mode where you one shot a monster with a bow from stealth.

Where's mah co-op? I need to see co-op in action.
The reveal trailer showed one form of co-op: drop in co-op. You can also play co-op with a preset group but that wasn't shown, apparently.

-----
I think the reason why I was immediately able to see that this game looked great from the reveal trailer (before these impressions in the OP) was that I wasn't pre-fed some bullshit 4chan rumor from a fan that didn't want to see the series advance.

For anyone questioning why Capcom was able to get away with releasing Supers, Ultimates, Turbos, and Extremes for other series like Street Fighter as separate full priced releases for so long instead of working on proper sequels I submit as evidence the last thread on this game. This is the first proper sequel that this franchise is ever seeing.

Edit:
Is them fucking with the healing system confirmed or is it just hearsay at this point?
Auto Regen of health was a bullshit rumor. Confirmed false

Don't get why people are kicking off that you can move and heal, they added that in Dark Souls 2 and onwards and that didn't make the game super casual easy.

I'm fairly certain if you heal at the wrong time, you will still get whacked, being able to move won't save you.

Again, Dark Souls has damage numbers so why is it not shat upon there??? Or are we gonna argue that it's hardcore because the damage indicators show up over the energy bar and not in the air...

But the trailer looked garbage. It still does.

MH is not Dark Souls?

Them messing up the healing system in future DS games led to a lot of problems with the combat though.

EDIT: Nevermind, I'm just so usually focused on the enemies that I apparently got tunnel vision. Damage numbers are totally there.

I'm referrign to the moving and healing thing. I know health regen is bullshit (although I assume the Street Fighter esque red health bar still returns).

They never said anything about ditching PR. While DD went into vapourware status, they could've easily still be working on the engine.

Anyway I find it personally a bit silly how they seem to have two engines internally - I thought RE Engine was the evolution of PR which was to be the evolution of MTF, but nope, looks like they brought back MTF for another go. Well, whatever helps to release MH faster :D

Dark Souls doesn't have damage numbers (or if it does then it's an option in the menus which you have to manually enable since I've never seen them).

"A lot of problems." What problems? The healing system was certainly not "messed up."

Have you even played a Souls game? Damage numbers have always been present by default.

Edit: Saw the edit.

Demon's Souls has damage numbers.
Dark Souls has damage numbers.
Dark Souls 2 has damage numbers.
Dark Souls 3 has damage numbers.
Bloodborne has damage numbers.

All are enabled by default.

Uh, no?

Dark Souls absolutely has damage numbers on by default. Check literally any youtube video.

Edit: Saw your edit. We're good.

They spent 10-20 seconds out of 2.40 minute trailer... you're acting like they spent the entire thing showing it off. It seemed like they were spending time focusing on new additions more than anything.

But no, MH is now a stealth game. Guess the MH x MGS cross over in Peace Walker was just a prelude to this! :) /s

"A lot of problems." What problems?

Well for one, the over reliance on multiple form and tanky bosses. They were forced into a corner because that's really the only way to make a challenging fight for pure melee builds in DS3.

The game itself is also quite easy when compared to the previous Souls games.

They started releasing games with UE4 and developed RE. How doesn't this look like they ditched it. Again how does this game even remotely look like Deep Down in graphics? Really..

So it is one problem?

Leaving your opinion aside, how is that a result of allowing you to move while healing? This is all that has been said regarding Monster Hunter: World. We don't even know how fast the movement is nor how this change has been accommodated/balanced.
