I don't know, man, he makes a strong case.

We almost got there with Piers, but Capcom clearly understood that they should save such alternate outfits for Chris in another installment.I'm just waiting for Chris in a Speedo.
That's what we truly need.
Is Chris going to have his sailorboy outfit? If no, then no buy.
I don't know if this has been discussed (probably) but I just found this on YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIjqBEKhlzc
So they literally had this shit in beautiful 3D and they just deleted it along with most of the source material? Man, Japanese developers were silly 12 years ago.
No one knows that the source material is lost. Anyone saying it as a certainty is going off of speculated information.
It's pretty fair to think that tho. I mean, the simple fact that they're just taking what is available on the retail disc as well as other developers of the time stating they threw away their assets (Kingdom Hearts 1 for the HD re-release had to be rebuilt) pretty much speak for itself.

No one's assuming that, but these are mostly pre rendered items, proper native work would require them to be re-rendered, its not like they're polygons or triangles (i'm sorry if I'm pulling stuff out of my ass, this is just my limited knowledge speaking).
also, lets not forget that a huge ass company like Square Enix actually went ahead and (admittedly) lost all original Kingdom Hearts assets too and 2 engineers there had a dedicated task of pulling out material for uprezzing from a retail disk copy of Kingdom Hearts 1.

Most of those are new .
Link ?
Plenty of people are very much assuming that, and the post right above yours points out how weird it is to assume that because some other company for some other new game lost assets that every other company must have too.
I have my suspicions on these screens. They're from the weeks ago but somehow nobody caught them? Do you realize hiw frantic some RE fans are with a good wit of uncovering news? There's evidence they're just blown up and the character models are blown up and missing updated character details shown in other screens? I feel like they're not real, it seems to fishy to me.
I don't see the upgrade

Saw those new pics on my facebook feed today. Looking kinda rough. Wondering if I should just get the Wii version and play through that, since I've never played REmake before. They keep stressing this is the PS3/360 version, but still.

Well the one thing that stands out to me is the proper positional lighting so the characters don't stick out as much in the environment being lit from an invisible light source.
So a more cohesive image in general.
Positional lighting is in the original.
Yeah, but obviously not everywhere. I've played through the whole thing in Dolphin and there are spots where it doesn't make sense and it makes the character model stand out.

I think this is an example of what InfiniteNine is referring to:

The only visible light source in the scene is from the right, but in the original shot there's apparently light coming from the left wall.
Is it me or is the texture on that snake upgraded?
I believe in the original the rooms light source is intended to be the moonlight coming in through the ceiling.
Also, it's hard to tell because the contrast is so high on the REmaster images, but it looks like it may have the same shadow. It's hard to tell on a lot of shots where shadows are improved because the contrast is so high.
Do you have an example of where it is plainly visible? On the characters themselves it's totally noticeable, but I'm curious if the shadows they create in the environment are actually affected. Like most of us, I would love for this remaster to be improved in every regard it can be, but I want to be able to compare against the original and see if it is improved.
There's quite a lot of stuff which is changed: Character models are improved, character lighting is all new, parts of some backgrounds are redone, and cutscene blur has been removed. The fact they haven't been able to re-render backgrounds is a shame, but it still looks a lot better.
This is the only shot I have where shadows are very visible in the new version:

But not an interesting comparison as shadows are in the same location (and the zombie in the background is missing shadows, which is hopefully a bug they're fixing).
I think these are good examples of lighting looking a lot better in the new version. Light sources are in the same positions in these shots. I'm thinking the snake room is one of the few cases where the light sources are placed differently in new version.

btw what is taking them so long for releasing a trailer -_-"
Not necessarily an improvement.
"The depth of field has been improved" => yes that's an improvement
"The depth of field has been removed" => not so much
Thanks for the links. I do think the character lighting is a lot better, but I'm not sure I see the shadow changes, for the shadows characters leave on the environment. It's tough to really tell in that snake shot because of the high contrast of the new REmaster image.
I was playing this in the Dolphin emulator (2x native resolution 1280x1056) and it doesn't look that bad to be honest on my 1080p monitor. Man, I forgot how hard this game is. I didn't realize how frustrating and tense it was going to be with all of the item management, limited inventory, backtracking, and tank controls. I mean it is a great game and all, but I just felt like it is tedious as hell. I still vastly prefer Resident Evil 2 though. That and RE4 will always be my favorite games, but II love Leon and Ada so I'm biased
After playing Remake, I understand why Capcom chose the route they did even though I think they went too far. However, I think The Evil Within will strike a good balance.
That being said, I will still buy it on PC to support Japanese games on the platform and to play it with non-tank controls.
EDIT: To be brutally honest, Capcom should have just made Remake 2. However, fans are already on the case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b_7nz5ljLMU and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SS3f4j44wAI&list=UUkFBmxwbO6qhqWUBJ4rfsvQ
