Oh god me too. I might cave in and buy it before work tomorrow...and bring it to work smh.

Haha it's tempting. What keeps me from doing it is I know I'll be playing this on the plane, trips, on my bed, etc. with the Switch version.

up on PS4 yet?

YEP! If you can't find it on your PS4, just use the playstation store website to download it. It should pop up in your my games section on your PS4 then.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
Welp, with that it's bed time. Have fun guys! This will be stealing all my time tomorrow as soon as I'm done with work.

Stupid question, but is Amazon sending out codes now? I ask because I remember the Switch version leaked because people got the special editions early, so maybe codes would work now...

You guys never learn. ;)

Nintendo has never put out a third-party developed game at midnight in North America. They really need to work on this.

Ugh. I almost have enough eShop cash to get it on my US account but I'm tempted to just get some EU eShop cash to go ahead and get it. C'moooon.

wtf

website tells me I'm ineligible to preorder it
nothing shows up on psn, just the listing, no download or purchase option

is there a tutorial or something? as someone who's never played a sonic game, its fucking confusing as hell. half the time i feel like i'm not controlling sonic, i'm just watching him. and theres a flying squirrel that sometimes attacks and helps. but i dont know how to control him. am i supposed to just go from one side to the other as quick as possible? or do i explore?
1. momentum puzzles. Enjoy them. Be disgusted with yourself for failing them. The levels are basically a series of set pieces that you can explore at your own pace, many of which have a "optimum speed" that you can learn as you go.
2. the flying squirrel is a fox named Tails, who is secretly the main and best character. Tails is how you cheese bosses with local co-op, and it's awesome (I know you watch EZA, so check out the Sonic 2 stream during Easy Livin' to see the co-op cheese in action)
2a. You can kind of control Tails a little bit with player 1, but the real power is in local co-op. He's basically just an AI companion with 1 player. (when he gives you an airlift you gain control though)
3. Play at your own pace. People want to blast ahead, because max speed feels good. But there's no "right way" to do it. (beyond making it through the set pieces described in #1)

Noteworthy goals:

* 50 rings to get to special stages (hold onto 50 rings and hit a star post or whatever they are in this game)
* 100 rings to get an extra life

The messed up part: I recall very fondly of the 3DS launches being available at 9PST. This Switch midnight PST must be new for the console.

EDIT: According to a poster above me, its only for first parties. The game I was remembering oh so fondly was Pokemon XY.

PST Switch owner. Hype levels are so high right now that starting this at midnight will equal bloodshot crazy eyes and going to bed at 2:30 no 3 or later and being a hot mess at work tomorrow. Oh well!

I hope you are just joking....

....

If you AREN'T joking and are being serious, Sonic works like this. You have the ability to curl up in a ball (pressing down on the D-Pad/Analog Stick when moving), which builds up speed when going down inclines. You can also spin-dash (down + mashing jump) or drop-dash (jump + holding jump button down when in the air) to get a burst of speed.

It's like a normal 2D platformer, with rings being your 'health'. You cannot die as long as you hold on to ONE ring. The more rings you have though, the more benefits they offer. Chances at Bonus Stages (to unlock goodies in the Extra's menu upon completing them) too getting extra lives upon collecting 100; they are useful.

One side mission is to explore each act to find a huge golden ring. This sends you into a special stage, where you chase an UFO holding a fabled Chaos Emerald. The more orbs you collect, the faster you run. The more rings you collect in these stages, the longer your timer lasts. Catching up to the UFO grants you the emerald, with their being seven to collect.

Normal stages blend speed and platforming, having high/low/forward paths to take. Each offers various rewards, making replay value high.

ok. awesome. thank you so much. i've never played a sonic game before. and theres no instructions. like i didnt know about the dash jump thing. so thank you a lot. appreciate it.

so i have to collect the 7 emeralds to win?

(sorry for the goof fellas. i never had a sega and was a nintendo fanboy so never knew anything beyond sonic and coins. and the game doesnt spell anything out for you beyond "every button jumps". like even from the beginning i had a choice of playing as sonic, sonic AND the squirrel, or sonic's gf(?). like who the hell are these two? do they play different?)

btw i'm playing this on switch. looks and sounds great. i just wish i knew what the hell was going on.
