My verdict on the beta: I liked it, and it made me interested in picking it up. It's not as well thought out as Battlefield 4, particularly Walker Assault, and the way powers/weapons/vehicles are distributed. The moment-to-moment gameplay loop seems less about adaptability in these cases and meta play of your class, with a higher degree of randomisation in encounter difficulty which can borderline on frustration. I feel that hurts the overall investment, as though Battlefield 4 can be monumentally frustrating, Conquest 64 with the class/equipment/vehicle setup is more welcoming to diverse strategy over Battlefront's Walker Assault. And this might be deliberate to keep the game simple and accessible, but I certainly prefer the Battlefield 4 setup. That being said I found the core combat formula satisfying enough in its simplicity to have fun, particularly in modes like Drop Zone where moving quickly around the map and jetpacking provides a fun, arcade like run-and-gun formula that you don't see in Battlefield. Matchmaking and being unable to see my ping is very disappointing and a fairly big deterrent, but I can get over that, as is the lack of a campaign. It's the kind of game I know, despite it's faults, if I owned I'd still play a fair bit and have plenty of fun. It helps the production quality is high; the game looks and sounds outstanding, which leads to a lot of Battlefield-like "cinematic" moments in Walker Assault driven by the players rather than scripting, and that's very cool. I can understand criticisms over the simplicity and arguable balance/formula issues, but the game certainly isn't broken, and I think that's important. Balance issues aside, shooting the guy works just fine, and having tools and equipment that expand the formula to something more science fiction and wild over Battlefield's semi-realism is very welcome.
So yeah, I think it's fun, if clearly made within limited scope probably due to the end-of-year deadline. It works, the production is impressive, and there's good ideas in there that differentiate it from Battlefield, even if they don't all come together as well as they maybe could. I'd like to buy it, and the season pass, but the Origin price is a bit too high for my liking. If I can find a cheaper option, maybe from a key distributor, I'll likely jump on board.
