I wonder if anyone on gaf has worked on guides before, particularly at prima, and has some insight into how early they get the game, how much of the game they know early on, etc. I wonder if that's info someone working at prima RIGHT NOW would know, or if it won't be until next month or so.

Never worked on one myself but I know a few people that did guides in the past.

They get the game really fucking early in most cases.
They'll fire you if they even get a whiff that you're leaking info as their business demands the trust of the companies they are working with. Yet...
Plenty of leaks have come from people writing guides.
Which is why tons of guides are written by small teams of people that the publisher can absolutely trust.

Can someone explain to me why it seems like every Strategy Guide has to some thick-ass 300+ page tome? Not every game is friggin' Skyrim. The magazine-sized guides from the 5th & 6th generations were just fine.

I'm really excited to see how varied the trophies are in Smash 4, especially since a lot of them seem to be completely unique, new models! I was REALLY disappointed with the trophies in Brawl. A filled-out trophy gallery in Melee was like this huge, highly interesting Nintendo museum, a filled-out trophy gallery in Brawl is like "this is whatever we had lying around"

I don't wanna do the whole "lol Brawl sucks!", but the Prima guide for Brawl was the worst. Seriously. Especially compared to how amazing the official Nintendo Melee Guide was.
