Square Enix announces Theatrhythm Final Fantasy Curtain Call for 3DS

Polygon has translated some of the Famitsu article and it sounds like it'll be the last Theatrhythm game:

Maybe.
I wonder if he means that this will be the last Final Fantasy Theatrhythm game, or the last Theatrhythm game in general. They still need to make Theatrhythm Dragon Quest so hopefully it's the former that ends up being true.

Trailer looks great. Now the waiting game begins. :/ What was the time difference between TR release and localization?

Day one

Mystic Quest seals the deal, hopefully ill fid a solution to the awful 3ds sound though. Seriously, i can barely hear the game with headphones on in public

Oh shit, what was that last FMS song, with Zack. I haven't heard that song in forever, I don't remember what it's from, but it gave me such a nostalgic pang in the heart.

[Edit] FFX-2 title screen, yesssssssss.

downloading the demo right now
it's pretty small though ~450 blocks

edit: nice demo, seems like a lot more effort went into this than into the original. also there is a song from FF14 reborn included...
Overall I didn't like the songs from the demo though...(1 from FFX, 1 from FFXIV and 1 from FFXIII-3)

Playing the demo now. Ultra mode seems pretty ridiculous compared to the first game. Took me a few tries to clear Seymour on Ultra. BTW it's totally lame that they're using remixed versions of songs that are already in the first Theatrhythm.

I wished they showed this in the NoA direct.

It seems like it's Japan onry for the time being,

Theatrhythm is my most played 3DS game (that will probably change when BD comes rolling around)

I want muh sequel

There isn't any other thread for it, so I'll crosspost these in here from the FF community thread. I was looking and since this is the only Theatrhythm: Curtain Call thread with recent posts, I'll just put them in here.

The Theatrhythm: Curtain Call demo sure is Theatrhythm. You can use the face buttons and the D-pad/circle pad in order to hit notes. Using the D-Pad/Circle Pad is pretty imprecise on FMS (the field music stages -- which is the FFXIV stage in this case), so it's best to stick with the stylus on that one. Sometimes the stylus does afford better precision on Ultra mode, but it depends on the person. Sometimes I can get by no prob with the buttons on Ultra, but sometimes I can use the stylus for that. Ultra mode in this game doesn't seem to fuck around compared to the previous game's ultra mode, which is a good thing.

The demo has its share of Lightning and Lightning Returns, which is no surprise. You have Lightning as the lead of your party, the demo's tutorial screen shows the Lightning Returns page for the tracks listed, and you start off on the LR page. You have access to three songs with all three difficulties (plus a practice mode + watch the game play itself mode): Seymour Battle from FFX (which... sounds... unremixed?), Crimson Blitz from Lightning Returns Final Fantasy XIII, and Serene Forest from Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. The characters you're dealt are Lightning (in her LR outfit), Tidus, Yuna (in her FFX-2 Gunner outfit), and Y’shtola (from FFXIV).

It's... still Theatrhythm? I like Theatrhythm, but I still had a few issues with it as I'd brought up in the original game's OT. The characters don't say anything witty or funny before proceeding into the stage like in the last game (they just have facial expressions), and I think that's beneficial. There was no EMS stage (that one stage where you play the songs and you watch CG) so I don't know how well that is going to be executed. A little disappointed we didn't get stuff from XIII-2, but w/e.

Why they chose the songs they did for the demo is beyond me since there are much better tracks from each soundtrack, but I guess they chose the more... famous ones? I dunno about XIV's selection. I'd have chosen something different. Still funny that they chose the Seymour Battle theme even though that was in the last game.

Demo has 30 uses.

With that said, I'll keep tinkering around with it for a little bit.

Other things: There's now a Favourite system for your favourite songs, and there's a randomizer button.

I honestly wonder how many of the songs will be DLC this time. I didn't bother investing in the original game's DLC, so... I kinda think we'll see the same thing here.

Thanks for the impressions Schala. I only played the iOS version of the first game sadly (because I can't find the physical copy anywhere around here - and I just bought my 3DS recently) and I enjoyed the little I played of it, but I am glad they are making a sequel, just like with Dissidia + Duodecim, Curtain Call seems like a more complete version of the original game.

Also, didn't they confirm songs from XIII-2 in a magazine feature? I am pretty sure they did. I will try to find it in older threads to confirm.

Oh, no. I'm disappointed with the lack of XIII-2 songs in the demo, lol.

But yeah, there are definitely some improvements over the original game so far. Small things, but improvements nonetheless.

For those who have the demo, does it have "Fight with Seymour"? And if it does, does it actually have the intro this time around?

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
What are the new songs?

The only two new songs in the demo are Crimson Blitz from LR and Serene Forest from ARR.

But the thread mentions that there's stuff from LR/ARR/MQ/FF13-2, etc in the game. Whether a lot of the tracks are DLC remains to be seen.

Well, at a minimum I'd assume at least an eShop release. It's FF, it's likely a joke to localize, and most of all it really may be the kind of game you want accessible at all times.

I haven't seen any new updates for this game. I'm super excited for it but I wish the release info was better. I want a Dissidia type reveal with characters and songs being given each month or something.

I'm really hoping for more than what we've seen. Give me some VIII love, Square.

This is great. There is certainly a lot that could be done with Theatrythm.

Now if we could just see some RPGs thrown towrards the Wii U, then I will regain some confidence in modern Square.

I still haven't played Theatrhythm yet. What is the best way to experience it? iOS, 3DS? Is there a definitive version? Also, is Curtain Call a full sequel or is it an expanded version of the original?

Shamelessly stolen from g0nintendo:

iOS version

- game itself is free
- comes with two songs: "One-Winged Angel" from Final Fantasy VII and "Zanarkand" from Final Fantasy X
- buy game specific song packs with four tunes for $2.99 a piece
- additional songs are $0.99
- characters are $1.99 a piece
- 13 bundles at $2.99 each = $38.87
- + 59 songs at $0.99 each = $58.41
- + 25 characters at $1.99 each = $45.75
- grand total of $143.03.

3DS version

- characters are unlockable
- some songs like "Antipyretic" from Final Fantasy Tactics are not available
- 3DS has event videos, which as of now, aren’t in Theatrhythm Final Fantasy for iOS
- base game is $29.99 which includes 76 songs
- you can get 36 core songs, 12 unlockable tunes, 4 songs exclusive to the Chaos Shrine, and 24 opening/ending songs
- additional 52 songs available as downloadable content in North America sold for $0.99 a piece
- $81.47 for 128 songs

The ios version also cut out several modes and features from the 3DS version.

Basically, don't buy the ios version.

Thanks. You made it easy for me. And I prefer gaming on my 3DS vs. my iPad anyway.

It's a shame their isn't one completely definitive version though. And the total cost of the DLC gnaws at me a bit. Oh well, I guess I can worry about that if I'm still hungry for more after playing through the content included in the main game.

How much overlap is there between curtain-call and the original?

So I don't know how old this is (or whether I should be posting it in this thread or not), but it looks like they're revealing what Battle and Field tracks will be in the game on their website. So far, they put up the tracks for the first 7 games.

http://www.jp.square-enix.com/t_ffcc/track/

Of all the music they leave out in 6, they had to leave out the Opera battle? Hopefully it'll be DLC.
