Can't wait to finally see it. I really hope it lives up to the reveal trailer. A lot of potential based off what they've said and if they can pull off the fast paced nature of the trailer.

Also I have a feeling this thread may turn into a graveyard of grey names soon.

Impreccable on the first page spoke of a "inevitable downgrade" for a game we haven't even seen (and then backpedalled to act like he's actually interested in the reveal lol). This thread was destined for shit from the beginning because it's gamers and it's the internet.

Sunset Overdrive is like the last game I would expect to lead to a thread like this. What a shitshow.

No one should care what console it's on. We should judge a game by its merits, regardless of platform. And this is from a guy with only a PS4 and no intention to get an X1. If the game is good, it is good.

The game at this point looks like it has potential. I'm very interested in seeing more.

Can someone explain the hype for this game?

it's a shooter made by Insomniac who peaked with Rachet and Clank a Crack in Time. Did everyone forget FUSE?
??? There actually doesn't seem to be much hype for this game. Not saying no one's interested. Obviously some people are, but the buzz for this game has been rather subdued. Maybe it's because Insomniac doesn't have the cachet of a top tier studio, where everyone is excited for their games, even if we know little about it. And we really don't know/haven't seen much of Sunset Overdrive.

Here's hoping this turns out well. Insomniac is a talented team, that talent just hasn't shown through lately IMO.

While I agree 100%, unfortunately this isn't the way many people on the internet think.

Ex Sony exclusive developer gone to Microsoft, PS4 not having many exclusive games announced for 2014... its what I expected really.
You have invited the list warz. This is why we can't have nice things.

Making easily refutable statements to derail a bad thread even worse!

Calling the lineup "best ever" and "almost unseen before in quality" is way too hyperbolic.

That said, it's an awesome lineup. Hopefully Quantum Break does release this Fall; that game looks like the best of the bunch to me. Alan Wake was incredible, and I'm confident Remedy will deliver with Quantum Break too. I'm a bit worried that it might slip to Q1 or Q2 of 2015 (based on how little we've heard/seen about it). In that case, the fall would be anchored by Sunset Overdrive, Halo 2 HD, and Forza Horizon 2. That would still be a solid lineup. Sunset Overdrive oozes with potential and style. It really will come down to how well it's all executed.

Can't see QB being this fall. I imagine MS would want to use it to plug the first quarter drought for 2015.

Insomniac needs a win here to get their name back on track. I don't think we'll see another Fuse. Isn't the Resistance team behind Sunset Overdrive? Resistance series has always been competent, good but not great until Resistance 3. So I have faith they will deliver.

Looks like an album cover. Better have a killer soundtrack! Oooh! The collector's edition could have a Vinyl!

I really wonder why this is being revealed before E3. Is MS's conference so insanely packed, they can't save the reveal for then? That doesn't seem likely. I wonder if it's coming sooner than people think.

Phil did say they were having major issues fitting everything in their 90 minute press time for E3, but I think this is more show it now and then live gameplay on stage at E3.

Well Phil said they were already over their 90 minute time limit and where having trouble stuffing it all in. Maybe Sunset overdrive is being spilled out. I mean, they're still probably going to show a trailer, but maybe this way they don't have to share any details at the actual conference and just trait show the trailer.

EDIT: beaten by Somnia.

A reveal in a magazine will only be stills.

I am pretty sure that there were stills for Uncharted 2 in a magazine before the E3 demo.

There's absolutely no chance it's not at the E3 conference.

I imagine they want to get some previews out to build hype? It's almost been a year since we last heard anything about the game and we still haven't seen how it looks in game either.

A magazine blow out shortly followed by a demo at E3 would be enough to build and maintain some level of hype.

It was already revealed, and this gives them some wiggle room to build up anticipation beforehand when they are not sharing the spotlight with dozens of other games. I think it's great!

Last year Sony showed many games before E3, then people thought their conference will be full of new games... but it wasn't.

I just think Microsoft don't want to have already announced games on their conference.

Ha sorry, I wasn't talking in general, its just that sequels to my favourite games, plus an awesome looking new IP and Dragon Age Inquisition mean my fall is going to be perfect :)

No problem; it's good to be excited!

Yeah, I could definitely see that being the case. Perhaps a combination of Microsoft wanting to fill the drought in the first half of 2015 and Remedy also needing more time. Maybe it'll release in March 2015, following the same framework of how Titanfall released March 2014. Then Halo 5 could release in Fall of 2015. Halo 5 v. Uncharted 4 in Fall 2015 is my prediction. Gonna be crazy! And Fallout 4 should be ready by that time too. Caaaaan't wait...so far away though :(

The threads already derailed, at least this way we can have some fun with it!

I really hope it is fall, although this also assumes that MS dont have anything due in the quarter of 2015 that they just havent announced yet

Not necessarily. They can show the game off a little before hand and then at E3, let Insomniac open the show with a 5 minute playthrough. It will be a game they give a pretty large marketing push since it's being targeted for fall of this year and E3 will be a place to show it off.

As for their show, they are restricted to 90 minutes since it is being broadcast on TV, They can't start late and they have to make everything fit in that time period. That said, I expect a barrage of games again from them. It sounds like that's what they were planning regardless but now more than ever I really want to see what they have coming. We are only a couple months away from the show.

The headshot and Scott Pilgrim-esq text effects show in the trailer will show up in the game. They really like it and say it’s a fun way to give the player feedback on what’s going on in the game.

Cover is not something they want the player to hinge on, they want the player to use the traversal as a defense and also use it offensively to get to a better position. Getting those elements to mesh was difficult, but they are getting at a point where it feels awesome.

Before they had separated shooting and traversal, but now have a couple of prototypes going where they combining those two elements.

I like.

Phil Spencer originally said earlier this year we wouldnt see more until E3, I asked him earlier about whether the plan had changed (he could have just been misleading us) and why it changed and he replied with this:

@XboxP3 You said a while back that SO wouldn't get more info until E3, did that change? If so, due to packed conference or other reasons?

@Steverulez That changed a bit. Team had a plan for something a little earlier that made sense. Big game, good chance to tell the story.

They are obviously pleased with SO's progress, wanted to make sure it got its own place for news and we'll almost definitely see it at the MS conference too

I hope MS and Sony don't waste any time with third parties this year, but they obviously will.

I dunno, I'd be pretty upset if I didn't see MGSV, Destiny, and FFXV at one of the two conferences...

The rest I can live without.

Those games will of course be shown at E3, but I don't see why you would want them to be discussed at the Sony or MS event. They have their own publishers who can market the games well enough at the game floor and in their own booths.

They all do, the point is there's never enough exclusive AAA games to fill a 1.5 hour show.

And thinking it'll be exclusively games is silly as well. It won't this year. We haven't seen Nancy Tellem at all, and she's still there arranging watercooler content.

That's what Phil Spencer keeps saying. Said they're hardly going to have any execs onstage because just games, games, games.

He's going to have heeeyyyllllll to pay if that doesn't happen.

As long as I get an extended game demo, I don't really care if it's at a conference or just some released video. :)

They do have enough, if they showed games exclusively.

If you take Sony's conference last year, they showed KZ/Knack/DC in a tiny little thirty second montage, then wasted time on crap. It's always the same thing. They could both have nothing but wall to wall great gameplay presentations, and people would love it, but no, it's always crammed with content publishers could present themselves, and non-gaming crap that the only people watching E3 have no interest in.

After seeing how KZ and Knack turned out... I'm not surprised they reduced it to a thirty second montage.

Didn't Insomniac say they wanted to go multiplatform? So why is this exclusive to Xbox? Did their relationship with Sony go bad? I mean they have long history with Sony for them to just up and leave and make a game only for Xbox.

But all gameplay presentations would be massively boring. You'd be like halfway through the conference and have seen like 2 games.

3rd party announcements and indies can still be really exciting announcements.

I dunno, it's about exciting balance. Having said that the AC4 demo was such a waste of time last year, we knew what that was going to be.

I seriously doubt it goes beyond anything further than Microsoft paying them a lot of money. Same with Platinum on Bayo 2 and TW101. Independent devs who make decent sized budget games need to stay afloat somehow.

Unfortunately I think this is going to be the reality for most XB1 exclusive game threads, unless the mods step in and put a stop to it.
It's so odd. I'm barely interested in Xbox One as a platform, I own a PS4, but I still want info on this and Quantum Break. They seem like cool games. It's like people don't get the realities of publishing and funding.

Admittedly KZ (and probably Knack, I've not played it) was crap, but they could have still benefited from giving them on-stage gameplay presentations.

This year, if both of them only show ten games, they could do nice complete five minute demos of them, with a little time to talk about how their launches have gone and whatever service nonsense they have to push. But it'll be the same thing, Call of Duty, Assassin's Creed, Destiny, The Division, Dying Light, etc, all these games that benefit neither side, and we already know about. If one of them have exclusive FO4 DLC or whatever, fine, that makes sense, but it's just so boring to show that stuff.

I think both conferences this year have the potential to be amazing. I think both consoles have lots of games we know about to show gameplay from, stuff ready for announcement trailers, and a few teasers of distant stuff. There will be indie stuff, AAA stuff, and hopefully some really cool software update details. I haven't jumped into next gen yet but I'm really excited to watch this year.

Sony probably hadn't signed a game with them as yet, so they jumped aboard when MS wanted to fund their ideas. It's not like MS would have to pay them more than what Sony pays for their time.

It's exclusive to the XB1 because Microsoft doesn't require IP ownership in exchange for publishing a game, whereas Sony does.

And Insomniac aren't exactly known for making games that sell massively, and after the bomb that was Fuse. I doubt many 3rd parties were jumping to publish their next game.

I'm also sure Phil Spencer is a big fan of Insomniac's games and he's not gonna say no when they approach him with an open world shooter.

I'm assuming Insomniac North are working on either a multiplatform new IP or an exclusive PS4 game [Resistance/R&C/etc.]

I agree it'd be pretty silly to show something like Assassin's Creed since it's such a known quantity, but for unannounced or never shown before third party projects, I still think it has its place.

Kingdom Hearts 3 at Sony's conference last year was genuinely exciting, I mean I think there was some people hyperventilating/crying in the audience. In Sony's case last year, the exclusives weren't really there to have a full show of nothing but first party and I think Microsoft did a much better job in that respect. Here's hoping this year is better for both companies in terms of exclusives...
