Nintendo : buy Mario Kart 8 on the eShop or retail, get a free game

thanks!

and I hope you reach platinum somehow.

295 to go for plat, have 55 worth of survey to do... Mario Kart will bring it to 60, whichever game I get with MK will be another 50-60... I don't think I'll manage another 150~ not unless I want to make the Missus very unhappy at me.

Will this be in the form of a code? I already have those games and would rather just sell it.

Previous giveaways like this were for codes. The exact method hasn't been announced yet, but it's fairly likely it will be again.

the "no account" excuse is getting kinda tiresome. It's not as good as the other two options out there, but the nintendo account system works.

my WiiU broke, I got a new one, and I managed to get my NNiD relinked and all my digital content back with a phone call.

It's obnoxious and outdated, I agree, but it's not impossible as some of you guys make it sound.

Nope, it's still garbage. Digital purchases should not be tied to hardware, period. People need to stop defending Nintendo over this. Microsoft doesn't do this. Google doesn't do this. Sony doesn't do this. Apple doesn't do this. Valve doesn't do this.

Also it's a *lot* harder to get your content back when your hardware is lost or stolen (less likely to happen with a Wii U, but very likely with a 3DS).

Woah, best buy is also offering a $10 preorder bonus gas card (it's a regular $10 prepaid card).

So $38 for two games after GCU, so bought.

Yeah. I'm 100% in on this. You'll never, ever, see a mainline Nintendo game go that cheap with that many simultaneous deals going for it ever, ever.

this tells me that very few people have pikmin 3?

fine if you're buying the console. but the game is amazing and I'm still playing it a year on.

My options are all double dip related.... except sonic but the demo was so bad.

Nobody is arguing it isn't garbage. The point is that exaggerating does nothing good.

Purchases are not tied to hardware. I can see all my purchases from both my 3DS and Wii U on either system. The system is definitely capable of recognizing purchases made on other hardware.

Problem is that there's no public-facing utility to transfer accounts between different 3DSs or Wii Us to redownload purchases.

Already have NSMBU and Wind Waker. Wasnt planning on getting Mario Kart 8 but why not now. Will get Pikmin 3.

Can I share or play my digital my games anywhere like with Steam, PSN, Ios, Google, and XBL? Can I easily recover my games on my own? No. It is not adequate and It'll never me tiresome until it's fixed.

This is a great promotion.

If I anybody is interested in any of those games they would be fools not to buy MK8. The game is worth it all by itself but this just makes it better.

You are correct.

Problem is, complaining about "no account system" (as many are wont to do) is not going to accurately convey what is needed. Clearly we saw that Nintendo's initial answer was "oh, unified account system - we'll just unite the eShop balances!" What is needed is the ability for consumers to access and manage accounts and content across multiple devices. So this is what needs to be discussed, and it needs to be discussed in those terms explicitly.

Wow, that's really quite amazing. How are you viewing all of your purchases? I'm looking at my purchase list on both systems and only things after the NNID update on the 3DS are viewable.

Nobody is asking you people to do anything. A guy said he was going to convert a physical game to digital via this promotion and I guess the "Nintendo Account System" signal got lit up or something.

Exactly, so because of their crazy system, it IS tied to the hardware even though it technically should not be.

And I speak from experience as I just had to go through the whole fiasco myself.
I had a WiiU at launch. I sold it after 6 months as I was no longer using it and wanted to try and get most of my investment back, which I did.

The week of Tropical Freeze coming out I decided to pick up a WiiU again. I found a Wind Walker bundle at my local Gamestop. Should have been cut and dry. I had a Nintendo ID. I also had a 3DS. It was not cut and dry. Took a week of back and forth with Nintendo support, the last of which was on the phone, and they had to reissue all of my purchases to my new WiiU as the older purchases, even though under my Nintendo ID, were tied to that old WiiU.

So really when all is said and done, purchases ARE tied to the hardware.

But they aren't, they're tied to an account?

Nope, that's what everyone thought at first when Nintendo announced the NNID, but in reality it changes nothing because your account is also tied to the hardware. You can't login to your account on another console without getting it transferred first. Your account can only be tied to a single Wii U and a single 3DS.

But when accounts are tied to hardware, though?

I guess you could say that. The point is that saying 'the purchase is tied to the hardware' makes it sound as if there is no way to restore/recognise your purchase if your hardware breaks/is stolen.

My Wii U broke and I had all my purchases restored on my new one. All it took was one email.
(edit: I should add that all my Wii purchases dating back to 2006 were also restored)

I realise that, but I don't think that is unfair.
In my opinion, the only problematic thing is that you can't transfer your ID without going through customer service. As soon as they've set that up, I really can't see what people complain about.

(And they should probably make it more explicit when people accidentally delete their NNID's permanently when trying to delete the NNID on the system)

Neat. Was watching the Direct and going "crap.... crap.... crap.... oh thank god, don't own Wii U Party." The dangers of buying a good number of games! It's a bit of a shame to get it in a way that doesn't include the Wiimote, but w/e, free game so I can't complain (also probably preferable to the hassle of trying to sell a code, so I'm glad I've got an option).

Funny enough the Europe selection would only add Mario and Sonic and Game and Wario to the list of available games I don't own, so I don't feel I'm particularly missing out.

Edit: @People complaining about Nintendo's account system issues. Yes it sucks. Yes it should be fixed. Yes it makes selling your console awkward and retrieving stuff way harder than it should be. Nobody's arguing it's good. But it's also not some ticking time bomb waiting to lose you all your purchases. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone not being able to get their games back after having their console break/stolen. When my Wii broke I got back a new one because it couldn't be repaired properly, and they had loaded the games back on already (lost the saves of course).

But regardless this is an awesome promo!

Fucking awesome!

Zelda or W101? On one hand I can get W101 for free but it is only $20 and on the other Zelda has the higher cost and I already played before but having it free would be great.

Think I'll get zelda and just buy W101.

If you buy the game at retail or on the eShop, and register it on Club Nintendo, you can get a free game from the eShop! Bundle and LE copies included! Both Europe and NA confirmed too!

Games for Europe.

Games for NA :

- Pikmin 3
- New Super Mario Bros. U
- The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker HD
- Wii Party U

ps: can a mod please edit the title? Sorry about that...

NA won't have Wonderful 101? :(

Its a topic about get a free game for buying Mario Kart 8, why does there need to be complaining about the account system in every damn topic. We get it, we know it isn't perfect, but we can always wait for updates that will simplify it even more in the future. Why does every topic have to end up becoming like this..

Amazing deal, even with Nintendo's shitty account system.

I wasn't going to get MK8 for a while but I guess I will now and take WW HD as well.

Wind Waker HD for me, depending on how big it is. Otherwise I'll just sell the code and buy a retail copy since I've been meaning to for a while.

I highly recommend Pikmin 3 over NSMBU for those in NA. A much better game in every respect.

Honestly they're completely different games. I have more love for Pikmin, but if people are craving a platformer NSMBU is still a fantastic game.

Also, almost forgot: Nintendo seems to be nice enough to allow me to hold off registering long enough that the coins will go into the next Club Nintendo year. Hooray!

I recently bought Wii Party U b/c it was $40 and comes with WiiMote+...but like NintendoLand I wish it was a DL title. Going to have to think long and hard between Pikmin 3 and Wii Party U.

I can see why we're not getting Monster Hunter offered to us since it's not a Nintendo published game. But I have no clue why Wonderful 101 isn't an option for North American players.

Still a great deal, good an excuse as ever to get Wind Waker HD.

If people want a better platformer there are two on the same system: DKCR:TF and Rayman Legends.
