Chapter 13: spent a few minutes
just jumping around in space getting some kicks.

The music that plays during that area is great.

As ludicrous as the notion is, do you ever get a silencer for the sniper rifle? It's not that I even need them to remain unaware that someone is shooting them from somewhere, but when you kill someone from the shadows 500m away and everyone instantly knows your exact position and hit you with spray fire when it was a challenge to get them yourself, that is the not-good kind of old school. It really makes the sniper rifle nothing more than a fight initiator because you'll have half a dozen enemies in your face within 5 seconds. Bad sign when the pistol is the best sniper rifle in the game.
I don't think so. Don't see the point of it when the pistol is fucking amazing and you're never in levels where you're miles away from enemies other than the Gibraltar Bridge. Bad sign to you, awesome sign to me :)

How is this game so poorly optimized? Even at the lowest settings it's nothing but a stuttery mess. I have an i5 2500k OC@4.5ghz, r9 290 that's also over clocked, 8 gigs of ram, windows7. The game is unplayable, AT THE LOWEST SETTINGS. wtf.

Dude, there has to be something wrong with your PC :/ I have the 3570k, 8GB ram and a GTX670 and it stutters a bit

Beat it. Awesome game. Do they ever mention Hitler or did I miss something?

There's a news clipping that talks about Hitler opening the parade road between two monuments but aside from one 'Heil Hitler' all notes and propaganda are about the regime's ideals with no mention of a leader as such, just other staff.

Really enjoying this, got it running to my liking with vertical sync through nvidia inspector, otherwise loads of mouse lag. What can I say, great game.

I love going in sneaker mode with a silenced pistol and headshotting then switching to dual assault rifle when I get caught. Great mix. I like the way they take damage. Still getting jaggies in-game and can't run it at 2560 on max but great on 1920 with 780ti.

Definitely your computer. I'm on an old OC'd C2Q Q6600 @ 3ghz with 6 GB RAM and a GTX750Ti and I'm not seeing any stuttering.

I got the game for Xbox One after putting about 30 hours into the PS4 version, and I just couldn't do it. It might be just in my head but it felt like the controls were incredibly inferior on Xbox One. PS4 controls were tight and responsive, Xbox One controls seemed more floaty and unstable when you moved around and when shooting. Like I said, maybe I was just so used to the PS4 controller and I'm just feeling more partial towards it, but the game was damn near unplayable on Xbox One for me due to the controls/controller.

Still though, what a fantastic game. Its either this or South Park for my GOTY so far.

I was having similar problems (HD7950) until I completely uninstalled / reinstalled Catalyst Driver 14.4

Just completed this...excellent game. I really don't understand the hate for it...

idTech5 could use some work, but there were areas of this game that looked freakin AMAZING!

My only complaints were occasional stutter and texture pop-in....otherwise it ran decent onmy rig maxed at 2560x1440

3770k OC to 4.1
dual 7970's
16gigs dominator
(2) corsair 240 neutron gtx in raid-0

Excellent soundtrack! Great gunplay - addicted actually...

Hitboxes are just right for headshots, and I liked the variety of areas and textures.

For a linear shooter it's not quite up to par with the Metro series, especially Last Light - but it's a great game!

I'm not enjoying the game any more, every single fight now is just wave after wave of enemies with a bunch of heavily armoured guys thrown in every time (and their count increases after each wave). It forces you to just use the laser weapon which I hate considering it runs out of charge in an instant.

PC folk are probably aware already, but if you want to improve the visual quality of the game press CTRL + ~ to open the console and enter each of the following:

bind i "vt_lodbias -2"
bind p "vt_maxAniso 16"

vt_maxAniso 16 will force 16x anisotropic filtering, if via id Tech 5's implementation, and vt_lodbias -2 will reduce the texture level of detail over distance. The latter isn't always advisable in games as it can introduce texture shimmering for details over a distance, but it works wonders in New Order, where textures horizontal to the player blur very quickly.

Here's an example of the difference:

wolfzesx6.png

Anisotropic filtering shouldn't come at much of a performance cost, but the lodbias will. Experiment with -1 if you don't like the performance hit. Default is 0.

The reason I've bound them to i and p is because these settings (like many settings) reset every time megatextures are reloaded, so after every load (usually hidden by pre-rendered cutscenes). Binding them to keys allows you to quickly activate the settings without having to open the console again.

You can also experiment with:

bind p "vt_maxPPF 128"

This (I'm pretty sure) increases the amount of texture passes the engine performs in a single instance, in theory improving texture streaming pop-in. The menu setting maxes out at 64, but you can increase this to 128 (always multiples of two). Documentation suggests increases in vt_maxPPF should be liked to CPU cores/strength, but I've had no issues using this increased setting on my four core i5 2500K @ 4.3GHz. Maybe watch your temps and be alert for crashes. The higher this value (it maxes out at 128) the faster textures stream in while moving the camera, and I'm positive it works.

You can also toy with r_multisamples, which is as it reads: multisampling antialiasing. r_multisamples 8 is 8xMSAA, you can set values to whatever and bind a key if you'd like. Comes at a massive performance hit though so I don't use it.

If you have Nvidia, I read elsewhere you can use:

vt_useCudaTranscode 1

And 8xmsaa doesn't have much of a hit.

I still get jaggies though, I'll try it without the cuda part later.

Just finished the game...in 11 hours. Hmm I guess I rushed through things a bit fast. Oh well I missed a lot of stuff so time to start again.

Got to the chapter on the U Boat. Am I close to the end or still some ways to go?

Played through it all on my Alienware 14 with a 765m runs like a dream with everything nearly maxed out. Great game though. Always been a fan of wolfenstein but this really has took me by surprise.

You're on chapter 11 of 16.

Man... this game. This fucking game. It's far better than it has any right to be. I finished it and then started a new game right away
to play the alternate timeline.
I absolutely love the pulpy science fiction elements, like
the moon base.
It has such a great sense of pacing and variety as well - probably the best of any game I've ever played. It jumps between dialogue, shooting, and exploration so well. Just as you've had your fill of one type of gameplay, the game switches to another.

I just finished the game,100% platinum and everything.

What an incredible ride, I didn't expect it to be this good. The gameplay was solid, I really like that I could just play if stealth mode in some section with a pistol. AI are kinds dumb though, if you kill an enemy with a silence pistol in front of them, they almost never react and just keep on patrolling, same with dead bodies.

But other than that, the characters are surprisingly solid. B.J. got more personality and depth to his character than any CoD or Battlefield protagonist, even better than the protagonist in BioShock Infinite in my mind.

I was quite disappointed with BioShock Infinite after loving the first two, but I never play Wolfenstein before, and The New Order is great. Even the antagonists are interesting, I love the romance between Anya and BJ too. Probably my absolute favorite game in 2014 so far, beat out Infamous Second Son by an inch.

Have you guys been listening to Ramona's recordings? I got a question.
is Ramona actually Anya? I was getting that vibe from the story, a lot more toward the end of it.

My favorite line from the game.

"Nazi scum", I cheered at that part.

I would give it a 9/10. Its higher than most reviewers. But that's just me.

Gonna steal this gif for future pistol threads. Love the thing. Like the color swap when (ch13 spoilers)
you get to space
as well.

Holy crap just got the game and played until chapter 3. Graphics aren't amazing but it looks great. Shooting feels awesome and the controls are good. AI is really bad but the game is a lot of fun! Thanks GAF for selling me on this game nice pick!

I have nothing especially earth shattering to add to this thread except to say that I am really enjoying my time with this game. As good as the shooting and action is, its really the characters and the way the story is told that seals the deal. MachineGames absolutely knows how to create and bring to life incredible characters that interact in realistic ways.

Doesn't matter, for those of us who love sniper rifles and sniping, it still sux. I love scoping out an enemy and gunsights on a pistol is nowhere nears as good for aiming as a scope and it's kinda cheaty feeling to just use the target thing when it turns red to tell.

I like being able to aim myself for that far shot and not rely on the computer to tell me it's aimed true.

I like the game, but yes, that's a valid complaint even with the overpowered pistol.

I don't get that luck. I killed some one and his friend came and saw the body and started the alarm.

To be fair the protagonist in Infinite didn't have much personality at all.

My favorite line from the game.

My favorite line so far (I haven't gotten far honestly) is part of this thread's title, "Ok, so they put Nazis on the moon.... fuck the moon!" Me and my roommate both paused, and then started laughing when we heard that.

I ran into a glitch.

End of Ch. 6 spoilers:

After a long battle I defeated everyone in the Project Whisper helicopter bay. I pushed a button to open the hangar roof and my allies flew in on hang-gliders. I picked up Caroline and walked to my helicopter. I pushed X to enter the helicopter then BOOM, game tells me that I cannot continue because the game is not fully installed. Shenanigans - my game was installed.

I had to kill the app and re-launch it to play. When I loaded my file, I am greeted by Anya saying "help me figure this out" back at the hideout.

Did I miss a cutscene there? If so can someone be kind enough to link me a youtube of the transition between Ch.6 and Ch.7... I don't want to accidentally spoil any of the story.

This is a stupid question but how in the world do you start the game with one of the unlocked game modes? You can't do it from the enigma screen and I can't select it in chapters either. I don't want to use new game as that apparently wipes out your progress.

Not really enjoying the L
ondon Monitor
fight. The first part is easy but tedious, but then I just get mowed down by the chaingun when I try to run underneath it.

Yeah, I wish there was more too that encounter.

You can temporarily disable the chaingun, but I believe there are three of them.

It's an option when you select New Game. There should be an option called "Extra Modes". It doesn't delete your progress, I completed 999 mode, and all my progress was still there when I left that mode.

Ahhh thanks. I guess you have to start from the beginning though right? I wanted to cheese the Uber trophy.

So I beat both storylines and collected all the enigma codes. I almost got all the other collectibles. I solved all the codes.

What does
999% more action
for the
999 Mode
mean? Is it just for show? Is there a real difference between difficulty modes other than being harder? Like more enemies?

Overall this game was great. The stealth was alright. I'd rather have it like this than tedious. But it really is simple. The melee guards are a joke.

The hideout "quests" I could've done without and chapter 10 has to be my least favorite chapter. But the gun battles were great. I wish there were more levels like chapter 1. In the end I kind of wish there was more. More action-based levels.

I hope they release some DLC.

Will I still get the Uber achievement if I replay the game starting with Chapter 1 in chapter select rather than starting a whole new game? I wanna benefit from my 200 health + all perks and work on the armor upgrades.

Does anyone have the answer for this? I'm playing on PS4 and got it patched, so I don't think I could just do the last chapter and get it.

Then why not just play the last level on Uber through chapter select? If you suck so much that you can't even cheat the trophy then you don't deserve it.

You can do both. Either just play the last level or play through all levels using chapter select.

Finished this on 360 since I dont have space on my pc for it. I actually came very close to vomiting during a scene later on near the end of the game
where BJ remembers his friend having his brain sucked out.
Damn. I was ok with the violence and everything else that happened in the game (LCW splattering troops was oddly satisfying) But that scene really made me sick to my stomach.
