  • The system, Kinect, and power brick are fucking huuuuuuge.
  • All the games being sub 1080p is super obvious and pretty disappointing.
  • Controller battery life is great, but fuck having to buy a play and charge kit separately.
  • OS is fine, but feels slower in many places compared to the 360.
  • Decent library of pseudo console/timed exclusives.
  • Looking forward to Sunset Overdrive.
Get some eneloops

Get some eneloops

QFT I got a pack of 4 at launch and they do NOT let me down. I have 3 controllers, and two use the Nyko rechargeables, while my main uses the eneloops and they run circles around the Nyko. I honestly forgot they're even removable for a while.

I think they were like $19.95 or something on Amazon.

Ps4 has more games, just not games people on Xbox One like (I. E. MMO'S LIKE DC Universe Online or FF14, or indies, because apparently they are not considered games 'txl podcast' I'm looking at you)

I wouldn't take what that guy said too seriously, he started off his paragraph with

'not trying to start a console war but.... '

Being a former x1 owner, I can say a few things.

1) it's quiet
2)recent videos next to titles in store
3)i like the thumb sticks, nice grip, but prefer the size of the 360 Controller
4)Max: Curse of Brotherhood

Unfortunately my praise stops there

So no praise for suspend/resume feature? really?

Oh wow, I'm really really going to like this!

Same here. Snap is a huge selling point for me. Being able to pull up my TV or internet while playing a game is amazing. And being able to do so with my voice is one of the reasons I want Kinect. No switching back and forth when I want to do both at the same time, which is often.

I love my xbox one. Though there aren't any games I'm interested in getting for it until perhaps Destiny. But the master chief collection will be awesome, and I'll be definitely be getting that.

A year ago I was dead set on an xbone but a friend of mine set me straight and I bought a PS4 which is my main console and will not be changing. Games like War Thunder and FF14 are not allowed on the xbone, Plus has a lot of nice games each month, the graphics are better, I love the DS4, I don't have cable, and after ditching the 360 I just like the Sony ecosystem a lot better. That said, after this past E3 I got a wild hair to get an xbone. Its pretty much been the experience I expected it to be. The controller is a step back from the 360, graphics are ok, Kinectless sucks, and the UI is not very good. I do like pinning apps though.

This is polar opposite my last gen experience. What's funny is that I like having both for some reason. Probably having both last gen for several years has something to do with it. A great chunk of my friends moved over or got both but the Xbox side is dead as a door nail. I will see half a dozen friends online tops but on the PS side its like 20+ at any given time. Sadly many of the Xbox friends are still 360 bound or maybe quit altogether.

All told the xbone is what it is. I don't have cable so all the fancy features are useless. I don't hate itbut its not my favorite by any means. Its what the PS3 was to me last gen, an exclusive game playing Netflix machine.

Last week I got a Xbone, I've had a ps4 since launch and so far I'm impressed. The things I love about the system so far are:

-the UI is beautiful. I heard before the UI was complicated and would be difficult to use without kinect. I found the opposite to be true. There's still much they could do with the UI and while the ps4 UI may be simpler, the Xbox UI is more attractive.

I've also never understood the complaints that the dashboard is "built around Kinect". I almost never use the Kinect for navigation, and I still prefer the OS to the PS4.

it's whisper quiet, never hear it when it's on

This right here is also so nice. It's great to have it on for hours and hear nothing.

more apps, since I'm using the machine more for exclusives i might as well take advantage of the more developed media center

I've been using the ESPN and NFL apps, and now I don't even pay for those channels because I can log in with my sister's info.

the new controller is worse than the 360 controller IMO & isn't as good as the DS4.

I felt this way at first, but over time I've come to think the XB1 controller is the best for most games. The stick location, rumble triggers, analog sticks, and rounded triggers all add up to a better experience IMO.

I agree, and I think a lot of it has to do with pins. Everything you want to use frequently is just right there when you use them. However, some things are buried a little more versus the PS4 UI. Then again just pin it, if you need it.

The bumpers feel awkward to me. The sticks feel a little too small, and the edges are a little painful as well in my opinion.

You can buy stick tops really cheap that fit right over them. I use the same ones for both my DS4 and Xbone controllers.

The Xbox One controller overall is fine, but I still cannot, to this day, get over the overly loose sticks.

They're just too twitchy (and inb4 sensitivity settings in games - I've tried that. Now the controls are sluggish with loose sticks to boot).

I long for a controller revision, or Razer's 3rd party controller option whenever it does happen, for firmer sticks like the ones on the Xbox 360 controller.

This is the main reason I'm dreading the Master Chief Collection - I'm sure it'll be amazing, but will the holy trinity of responsive gameplay, immaculate controls, and the perfect controller re-align itself? I really hope so, but it's not looking bright. Especially for people like me who have issues with the X1 controller's loose sticks.

That was my exact opinion of it when I first started using it, but as others have said it grows on you the more you use it and now it's my favourite controller, the 360 one feels like a downgrade and as much as I think the DS4 is a great controller it's not nearly as good.

So I returned my Xbox One because of all the problems I was having with it.

And got a replacement as I had it less than a week.

Hopefully this one works better!

I'm very excited to get my hands on Sunset Overdrive. In the meantime, I'm playing Valiant Hearts on my Xbox One. Welcome to the club OP, it's a great little console with an even greater future.

I've had mine for a little over a month now. I like it. I oftentimes can't find too much reason to use mine right now, but Games with Gold has helped. I will occasionally play Titanfall but it just reminds me that I don't like Titanfall at all.

Controller I like more than the Xbox 360's other than the bumpers. Certainly not as good as the DS4 but I didn't expect it to be, and it's still the second best modern controller out there, IMO. OS is decent but I don't like it very much honestly. I can notice at a lot of the big games being sub-1080p which is a bummer. Games like Max and Guacamelee look great at 1080p, though.

Mainly bought the system for Games with Gold and Sunset Overdrive, but I'm sure I'll find some various other exclusives that I'll want to play (like that Ori game).

How essential is Kinect when buying an X1?

Depends on your intended use of it. I love mine for the voice commands, such as 'Xbox Record That' or using it to quickly navigate the OS in general. Also a really nice, if sometimes creepy due to the random zooming in and out, way to Skype.

But I don't feel that it's as essential for navigation as it looked to have been around launch. Gesture controls are still terrible and buggy.

In the end, I wouldn't say it's essential, but there are benefits to having it.

I got one recently too, for my son as he is more used to the Xbox brand.

It's a nice console but if you already own a PS4 there aren't many reasons to have one currently.

The OS is slow too for my tastes and the installation process is a chore and should be their No.1 priority in their upgrades list.

Having to change batteries is also a chore after being used to the PS3/PS4 controllers, i don't have a problem with the PS4 battery life but i do get annoyed every time my son needs to replace his controllers batteries and i have to look for rechargables, check if they're actually charged and whatnot.

I don't have a problem with the size of the system and it's components at all, neither its looks.

It's just underwhelming in general coming from a PS4 and not being a fan of the exclusives, not like the PS4 is any better in that regard but i play mainly multiplatform stuff anyway.

Had a PS4 and got rid of it to get an Xbox One. Not trying to start a system wars. both systems are great. Having more fun with the Xbox one just because i'm enjoying the games currently available. I'm certainly having gfx envy. No Man's Sky, Uncharted 4, TLoU Remix, and whatever David Cage is going to release is why I want Sony's system in 2015-2016.

That said, Xbox One is a really good system.

Did the same thing. Very happy I did, great controller and interface.

How essential is Kinect when buying an X1?

Not essential but if you can afford it then it's nice to have but it depends on how you use the system. I don't use gesture controls at all but I use the voice commands constantly. From turning it on and logging in to browsing netflix/tv and pausing/rewinding because I'm too lazy to find a remote. If you're planning on going all digital this gen then it's nice being to simply say "Xbox, Go to...." and instantly load up a game.

The number one thing by far though, is "Xbox, Record That" when I'm playing online with friends and some crazy shit happens.

So yeah, there's nothing that makes Kinect sound like an must have purchase but if you can find it cheap I'd certainly recommend it. It's one of those things that you don't appreciate until you have it and start playing around with. I couldn't manage without Kinect now but if you don't have it to begin with then you probably won't miss it at all.

Sounds like you and all your friends need glasses. The difference in IQ is rather staggering.
I don't think it's a matter of eyesight. People just don't perceive things the same way. I have kind of poor vision and haven't updated my prescription in years yet I'll be the first to tell if it's 1080, 720 etc among all my friends and colleagues. Hell, some people are really clueless about this stuff and think that they're watching HD Tv shows just because it's on an HD Tv meanwhile they only got an SD cable box.

What's your Gamertag on X1?

Might as well expand the friends list.

I'm very biased on the topic (see avatar), but it depends on what you're expecting from the console. If you just want a similar experience to last gen with upgraded graphics, then you don't really need kinect (and you don't really need an X1 IMO, unless you really really like the MS exclusives).
Most of the quirky features of the X1 make sense when you use it the way it was intended to, ie with a strong focus on multitasking and TV connectivity. Voice commands/gestures (and smartglass) are a novelty if you just use them to start a game, but they become very convenient when you want to switch between different apps or select a TV channel. There's also the whole video streaming/skype conferencing aspect (that I don't use personally), that can make the camera important.
And of course there are the motion control games, which are good but nothing groundbreaking right now.

I honestly use the Kinect more than anything on the console. "most the games are boring IMO or I have on PC" While i'm playing my PC I always use the following.....Xbox On, Xbox watch hbo, xbox volume up, xbox pause, xbox watch espn, xbox rewind, xbox play and xbox turn off; yes. If you will use your X1 for more than games I say get the Kinect. It's becoming way more consistent with it's commands.

If you just want to play games the only things you will probably miss are xbox record that, xbox broadcast, xbox snap Skype to chat with friends.

Traded a ps4 for my X1. Best decision. I cant hardly tell the difference between the graphics of the two, then again I never really gave a shit. Theres more fun to be had here than PS right now, especially from someone thats been with Xbox for almost a decade. stick to your roots, people

So we should all keep to our Atari's?

Sounds like you and all your friends need glasses. The difference in IQ is rather staggering. Even going from a 900p game like Ryse or Garden Warfare, it is very easy to tell the difference. It becomes even worse when you turn on something like Titanfall or Dead Rising 3. While they're fun games, they look jagged and far away details look bad or are completely missing.

I laughed out loud the first time I saw a fence in Titanfall.

The whole eyesight thing is rubbish. I have pretty much perfect eyesight and I wouldn't be able to tell you what res a game is running at. If you showed me a side by side comparison picture between a ps4 and an X1 game I could tell the difference however if you just showed me gameplay of one of them I wouldn't be able to tell you which it was from.

The differences are massively overstated.

LOL its not a "little" console its fucking huge compared to ps4. The ps4 hardware seems better 'thought out' overall

I honestly don't see why size is an issue, it's not a portable and looks really at home with other AV equipment, in fact it looks quite similar to Sony's monolith design, like the BDV-E370 (my current setup).

Sony_BDV_E370_size_10.jpg

I think the PS4 (from an aesthetic point of view) will age worse than the XB1, I think it (the PS4) looks cheaper, of course that's my own personal opinion. I still am so tempted to buy a PS4 when over in the states in the next few weeks for the exclusives and to see the power of the thing :) .

I think MS went big as they want lots of space for air to move about to avoid overheating / 3RROD (or an XB1 variant).

It's not an issue at all (for me). I was just stating the fact that its relatively bigger compared to ps4.
And yes I agree MS went with the 'brute force' solution of making it huge and giving it an external power brick because they were scared of RROD issues reoccuring. The Sony hardware seems better thought it, in terms of engineering. I couldn't care less about whether it looks cheaper, as long as the internal engineering is sound.

Sorry if I sounded like some troll in the above posts :-S

Dude NEVER apologise online, the internet can smell your fear ;P .The engineering behind the PS4 is very very well done, no one cannot argue that.

In regards to the power brick thing I personally preferred the KISS principle, things like separate power bricks so if it breaks it can be replaced (sadly at a stupid high cost no doubt), if it's built into the console the whole then needs to be sent for repair/replaced, my power brick just sits behind my set up and it never seen, never understood why it was an issue for some.

-last but not least Suspend/Resume. S/R is something so great u have to experience to understand its usefulness. Sometimes I can only play for 30 minutes. With S/R that's not a problem. Hell, now when my gf interrupts me I just turn the system off, knowing I'm a be right where I left it.

Now there's some thing I dislike, like the install times are damn near on ps3 levels. That and why did they use the ps3 method of have a separate step between downloading and installing? That was stupid. Also the new controller is worse than the 360 controller IMO & isn't as good as the DS4.

However Suspend/Resume has me thinking of using the console for more than exclusives, but we'll see. I'm playing Dead Rising 3 and I love it so far. The city, all the fucking zombies on screen at once. I'm having a ball. Looking to get Ryse next.

I came in not expecting much, but it's been completely worth it for me. U can add me if u wish, my GT is CaesarDrew, (started a new one) but I don't think I'm getting gold. Games with gold isn't where plus is yet and I don't play MP much.

Xbox has the option of an external hard drive
that will greatly decrease your install times if you get one

I think issues with power bricks in consoles are really low... to be fair I never had any issue with power bricks in my life (internal or external).

I do prefer internal due physical space but external is not a big deal too.

Gamefly has Forza 5 for $19.99 right now, so I went ahead and ordered a copy of that. I am also going to pick up a copy of Ryse and that should be enough to get me started. Can't wait to finally play them.

I honestly don't see why size is an issue,

In my case, size is an issue because I just have zero space in my setup for one. The downstairs TV is in a nice, big tv unit, with the ps4 and a dvr occupying the two spaces below the TV. Upstairs in the bedroom, there is an empty space next to my ps3 in the tv unit under the TV. Unfortunately, the space isn't tall enough for an xbone (need extra space for those top vents).

I could probably squeeze a vertical xbone in next to the downstairs TV, but Microsoft specifically warns against setting the console up vertically.

I had an og xbox, but sold it due to a number of reasons. The main one being the size of the thing. I was a teenager at the time and had a big pc desk with a monitor, some shelves and a TV on top of the desk, with a ps2 and GameCube on the shelf below. I just had no room for the Xbox and constantly had to move things if I wanted to play it. Point being, size of electronic devices can be an issue to many. Especially when they can't be stood vertically. I shouldn't have to buy new furniture (again) when all their competitors can make sensibly sized devices.
