I'd be happy with being able to have a fe automatic folders that work like the TVs and video one - you push down to give a scrolling list of icons you can choose from. I'd want a 'recently played' with all games in, with the most recent at the top. The game I last played should be at the top level menu. I'd also like a pinned option like Xbox where I can put any icons - games, apps etc - and head go in a similar collection. Both of these would sit to the left of the cursor when the console boots up, with the current game under the cursor, live from playstation to the right followed by TV/Video, and then whatever other apps etc I've been using in order of use.

Where else would you display it? It looks like it would be an optional feature when you want to find out more about the trophy. I doubt it'd force itself on to you and interrupt the gameplay.

Honestly, the little screwups with the artwork makes it more plausible to me, especially the Fez soundtrack. Remember the official PS4 UI reveal pics had a Home icon peeking from an edge?

For what's it's worth, Sony trademarks/logos in press photos are usually in white space underneath images, rather than actually obscuring them. In addition, Sony almost never uses real games in UI shots, with the occasional exception - but usually then you'd see just one shot from one game illustrated everywhere it was necessary.

This comes across as looking fake. The X in particular looks odd. They don't use that now on the UI so why would they suddenly start using that?

It wouldn't be the first time where they release official UI mockups that had slightly different details than the final release.

I'm not saying that it forces itself on you, it just isn't very elegant imo. Just because this is the first thing we have seen as a solution doesn't mean we should be ready to accept it with open arms. I'd like to see what Sony actually has cooking, should be interesting.

The new elements of the UI have slightly different styling than the known ones, which is usually telling of a fake. For example, the folders icon has no dropshadow unlike the other icons.
