[Rumor] New PS4 UI leaked

Looks slick, though I was working on a personal design project of redoing the PS4 UI and couldn't finish before Sony apparently..

I like how the folders look, tho it would have been interesting if they adopted something like my proposed Vertical Media Bar (VMB)

This Vetical Media Bar looks pomising.

Sorry for the joke, but I do like the idea.

Fuck it all, same shit used to happen in the PS3 generation, fans coming up with better UI and functions than Sony and me getting my hopes up for fakes.

folders seem like a shitty bandaid solution
keep the horizontal list and just make a real library and set it where what's new currently is
letc me filter my library by a bunch of criteria

Why can't we have this? I love the Vert bar.

Shame its fake, but suspected sadly.

Definitely like the look of those notifications and pressing PS opens up a menu based on the notification, definitely like sound of that.

UI Folders are probably one of my biggest wants too. X1 too for that matter (Yes it has pins, but you can't organise the order and your only option is put EVERYTHING in 1 pin section, so they should havd multiple pin sections I think.)
PS4 has pretty much no UI organisation though, so its in bigger need really.

A few problems with that design.
Would pressing up go to the above row when your in the middle of a section? If say you're in the media section and you press up would you go into the game section? If so would you go up to the same position I.e amazon is highlighted you press up would it go to TLoU?

It would be kind of tedious if you have to go all the way to the left to go to a different section. And even worse if you were at the bottom of the row and want to go to the store or check messages, friends etc.

The fact that people can get this excited over folders is a little telling. The lack of OS/UI updates has been kind of a joke at this point.

I would imagine it would work in similar ways to the current PS4/Store UI. It would remember your position in each row, similarly to the when you move between the PDM app bar and system bar and circle would return you to the root of whatever bar you're currently in, just like the store.

Because the OS is perfectly functional. Yes, it could be nicer, but everything is so fast an immediate, it's really no big deal to hold the left stick in one direction for a second or two. Just the other day, people were complaining about having to press three buttons to invite a friend to a game. I can see the same people complaining that they have to press more buttons to open folders/can't remember which folder they put something in.

it's sad that a fake mock-up, probably done on a weekend, out classes the efforts of a multibillion dollar company like Sony.

Way to oversimplify things. Designing a single page of a imaginary UI in photoshop is the easy part.

Creating, designing an actual UI that works well with the hardware, the countless of variables, usability standards and rigorous user testing is not something that happens with a snap of the fingers.

Good UI design is difficult.

That's why I said mock-up. Even with enough time Sony has proven to not be the best when it comes to UI/software features.

Nice to have low expectations.

This type of enabling attitude is the problem. When they're the #1 selling console and have apologists on every corner, why would they change a thing? I don't care how much you like a brand, it is perfectly ok to express dissatisfaction if they're dropping the ball like they have been. I went into this generation expecting to play primarily on the PS4, but so far Sony has lost me as a primary customer. Their lack of updates and, most importantly, communication about them has turned me off as the big Sony fan I was last generation. And no, I don't consider answered tweets by Shu saying "soon" as communication. They should be working to improve and evolve the OS and QoL functionality on a continuous basis.

Maybe but it this isn't Sony's first rodeo. They should be able to do better. Personally I think Steam's Big Picture mode is better than anything the console manufacturers have done and they need to start copy Valve's ideas.

Don't worry guys, we still have 3D Bluray support (which is now late) and the E3 announced YouTube app. If you have to announce an app at E3 it must be epic!

Doing a mock-up for a UI is one thing. Designing a functional UI is another.

It's hilarious some people are lashing out at Sony because of that mock-up.
