Sony Gamescom: PS4 install base exceeded 10 million units sold through globally.

How does ioi explain X1's 5.1 sellthrough rate? I thought that was a shipped number?

The whole site is one big joke. Dimissing official sales claims. SMH

I went there and looked up ioi's post. That's just embarrassing. Sony makes an official statement and instead of immediately fixing their guesstimates (which were off by 700,000 at the time of the announcement) ioi decides to publically humiliate himself.

Quoting the post here for future refrence.

smh

Da fuq?

Lol these never seem to go on sale in Canada.

You can get in on some US sales.

Nabbed a of couple years worth during last black friday from Amazon for $30 each.

Just entered a fake address (for the Disney building in Burbank lol) and they emailed me the codes.

lol at ioi

Destiny is only a few weeks away, and Bloodborne is only a few months... in addition to all the rest coming in the near future. Sounds plenty 'killer' to me.

Destiny will be the first killer app to appear on either console. I dont know if bloodborne can qualify as a killer app, but it sure is to the hardcore crowd.

ioi can't figure out where Sony is getting these numbers from so they won't update the figure. I assume he thinks they're lying. hahahahahahaha.

Go read his post on chartzzzzz for a good laugh.

Wow I should really find that funny as it is but mostly I find it sad. Chartz continues to try and position itself as some type of genuine sales tracker of videogames but is anything but transparent or trustworthy on the "sources" for their "data". It's great that Chartz predictions for PS4 sales WW were not accurate within the confines of the actual sales, neither were mine but unless I had hard evidence to prove otherwise it's a crap shoot.

PS4 is now available in 100 regions/countries as of August, 28 more countries since the last WW number. I'm sure Chartz has verifiable data on all those countries too....

I racked up over 12k posts on chartz and was even a mod for awhile, many years ago.

It was when I started heavily comparing charts's data to that of other trackers, started paying attention to how large data adjustments could be, started looking into how the different trackers compiled their data, and started hearing about neogaf's side to the whole banning thing that I began realizing just how much of a sham the site was.

Mix that with a lot of drama between certain posters and site staff, and I pretty much left the site for good 3-4 years ago.

I certainly remember you (I have also that same dark past...).

My favorite part was: "we can't just randomly add sales here and there to make things add up!"

This Chartz guy goddamn.

Just to add a little more transparency - one method we have used with PS3 / 360 to estimate sales in regions we don't directly track is via XBL and PSN accounts. So if, for example, we randomly pick 10,000 XBL accounts we can find what proportion of users are from each region - it might be 45.3% USA, 5.1% Canada and so on. Using the tracked data we have, we can then extrapolate to form an estimate of how many units may have been sold in the various MEAA regions.

What we can't do, is track say 75m units in the regions we cover then just say "oh there must have been another 7m sold somewhere" just because a manufacturer announces a figure (which may or may not be sold-through). I don't like the idea of just having a catch-all number like that - we need to be able to account for every unit sold either directly or via a measured and logical extrapolation.

I certainly remember you (I have also that same dark past...).
And I remember you!

There's a whole bunch of us that got into industry talk through chartz, then migrated to gaf because of NPD threads and other stuff that'd inevitably pop up on chartz's forums.

We're a surprisingly large gaf subcommunity, though we avoid mentioning that shared past in public.

It's crazy seeing how Playstation(4) is dominating the US Amazon chart. 8 of the 10 products are Playstation. Ps4 hardware twice in the top 10.

Playstation has made a huge comeback in NA

September is going to be fucking nuts ya'll know this right??????????? I mean damn you have people that are going to buy the black PS4 on top of people who already have a PS4 buying the bundle on top of new people buying the bundle.

This month should be very solid as well with Diablo 3 and Madden. The PS specific Diablo commercial been running a lot over the past week or so.

I couldn't find a Best Buy that had any Diablo PS4 in stock on release day in Nor Cal. Still easy to find for XBone, though. Probably doesn't mean anything, but damn!

They pulled same excuses with PSP and PS2 IIRC.

I wonder why is Destiny selling better on the Xbone.

well in the best sellers of 2014 chart which is more indicative of the standings the ps4 version is 19th and the xbox one version is at 24. i do think the sales are going to be very close between the two versions in the US atleast with people buying xbox one in anticipation for halo collection and cod this holiday. worldwide ps4 is going to dominate in destiny sales.

Is it?

August.

#13 Destiny Xbone
#14 Destiny PS4 bundle
#15 Destiny PS4 LE
#16 Destiny PS4
#22 Destiny Xbone LE

For me looks like PS4 is selling the most.

I suspect many of the PS4 sales occurred quite some time ago for the early beta access.
Nah. PS4 is selling more LE and Bundle than standard edition...

Like sense said above: it's not.

Amazon data is somewhat useful if you know what you're looking at. There are two lists that Amazon shows:

One is updated hourly and only shows what's been popular the past couple of hours,

The other is updated daily and shows overall sales for the year (and month if you know how to work it).

If we look at the overall sales list, the PS4 Destiny is at #19, and the XBO Destiny is at #24. Link

To use fake numbers as an example, the PS4 version may have over 10,000 preorders, but is only currently selling 100 copies an hour. The XBO may have over 6,000 preorders, but is currently selling 150 copies an hour. Thus we see the difference in the two lists.

Could also be that Xbox owners (where there are more Bungie fans) are more likely to buy their new game which might tilt the ratio?

Something to keep in-mind for august.

http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_holiday

My state recently had its tax free weekend. Actually sold out of PS4's in many of the stores in the district. Consoles were a very hot commodity this year, more so than other years from what I can tell.

That's strange because from what I can see (and applies to my state) is that video game consoles wouldn't be a part of the tax free holiday. Only computers, clothing, school supplies etc

Not impossible, but we've got to remember that this is just Amazon US stats, where the install base isnt' all that significantly different.

US Destiny sales could be close due to those factors, but globally PS4 will kill it.

Destiny on PS4 is selling way better on Amazon... so no.

Well I'm just throwing out the idea. Pretty much all XBO owners will be Halo/Bungie fans whereas on PS4 it'll be less, sure there will be more with the amount that 'switched sides' but it's a potential factor.

I believe some games sold better on one format other the other last gen and that could be put down to 'brand history', like GTA IV:

"With the Xbox 360 having 2.4x more systems than the PS3, it was universally expected the 360 version of GTA4 would outsell the PS3 version. The monthly results in NPD April 2008 (1.8m to 1m) gave the 360 a 1.8:1 ratio, much lower than their install base advantage. However, this was also to be expected because unlike titles like Call of Duty 4, GTA4 had significant "Sony loyalty""

http://vgsales.wikia.com/wiki/Grand_Theft_Auto#cite_note-gta4-2

I should add I'm only saying that should the tie ratio be better on XBO this could be a factor.
