Hey, gamehavers, quick question:

Have you seen the Polar Bear or Sneaky Spirit while playing Smash Run?

I haven't seen either of them on any Smash Run streams I've caught, but there's so many potential enemies the game can use that I don't think that's proof of anything. Have any of you seen them? Have any of you played like a hundred Smash Run matches and not seen either of them?

Polar Bear appeared in mine twice, once as a bit of a boss. It was an event, there was a timer in the corner and another number showing me how far from it I was. Then I had to beat on it for a while, but after killing it, you got a lot of powerups, equipment, etc.

Okay, so I don't know if this has been brought up yet anywhere, but

If you're playing as Roy and the audience starts cheering for you, it sounds like they're saying "Roy's our boy!". Amazing (assuming my ears aren't deceiving me).

I saw Sneaky Spirits. I was recording but I don't want to trawl through the footage to find it.

It's a really fun question to me, because each pack has its clear strengths and weaknesses. All in all, I think I would go for the Melee pack over the others. I'd probably prioritize Melee > New > Brawl DLC. Mewtwo and Ice Climbers are...too important to me.

The clear weakness of the newcomers pack is that Isaac, Impa, and K. Rool got in over a Rhythm Heaven character. :v

Btw, has anyone noticed whether there are any non-original Smash Run enemies that represent series not represented by playable characters (aside from Sneaky Spirit and Polar Bear)?

If not, I think it's fair to say that a Rhythm Heaven character was definitely considered. Specifically Chorus Kids - Sakurai probably was designing a tandem gimmick, but had to cut it for the same reason he had to cut Ice Climbers.

I swear that I saw it too. No worries!

From what I see, there are no monsters from series that have no playable representatives other than Rhythm Heaven and Ice Climbers. I'm more surprised that Fire Emblem and Xenoblade don't have any enemies in Smash Run.

Masked Man

I said wow
If that means we get the Mother (Melee) arrangement for whatever the Wii U stage is (plz Magicant), then as long as we get Brawl Snowman and the greatest Smash arrangement ever made , then topped with the other new arrangements the will be the greatest musical selection ever.

*starts scanning the internet wildly for recordings of the concert

Yeah, I interpreted their music selection to imply that we'll be hearing it in the Wii U version. They also announced that Michiru Yamane (of Castlevania / Suikoden fame) will be arranging music from Fire Emblem Gaiden for the Wii U version.

??? Where's the info of Chorus Kids' trophy?

Right here. The main body of the text references various cute and/or oddball characters that have appeared in the various titles in the series, and finishes with: "This time, from the quirky and charming Rhythm Heaven cast, we bring you the Chorus Kids."

Thanks, guys. I was curious if those made it into the final game.

I think them existing is strong support for Ice Climbers and a Rhythm Heaven character having been worked on as a playable in some form during development and ultimately cut from the roster due to... who knows what. Time, performance issues, late approval for someone Sakurai wanted more, could be anything.

I still haven't seen any enemies that aren't from playable franchises outside of those two on any streams. Of course I'm counting Find Mii enemies as being for 'Mii' as a franchise and the SSE enemies being for Smash itself, and the Pookas from DigDug being related to Pac-Man's presence, buuuut outside of those there's nothin.

I'm 100% convinced Ice Climbers and Chorus Men were both planned but cut due to technical troubles on the 3DS.

I'm going to be upset if they're not in Wii U. Fuck cutting content for the sake of parity.

Imagine if this picture was leaked a month ago. I think lives would have been lost.

The annoying this is that we are going to have to hear about so and so being DLC for months. Mario Kart DLC was announced three months after release, so basically we have to hear "RIDLEY WILL BE DLC" for months.

Ohhh interesting! Thanks.
Are there any Xenoblade or Wario enemies? Only franchises I can think of I've seen nothing of in Smash Run.
Fire Emblem doesn't have any either.

Are you serious about that last part? That sounds almost like a character trophy. Wow... This is news to me.

Cause so far, I haven't seen any. They all look like minor tweaks on the existing move that doesn't really change how the character plays in any meaningful way.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't have minded some Risen enemies in Smash Run.

Then again I think Robin should have had this (spoilers) as his Final Smash.
Oh my gosh that would have been perfect.

I'm pretty sure the only reason Robin has Chrom as his Final Smash (and victory animation) is because Sakurai wanted to include Chrom in some meaningful way since he's the not-playable protagonist of a game where other two characters are in.

I have a really weird feeling about the Chorus Kids. Either they were cut late into development or they're planned as DLC.

First, there was the Gematsu leak. Yes, the information is clearly outdated, but the Chorus Kids stick out from the rest of the pack since they represent a new IP. "Pokémon from X/Y" is pretty vague, and Robin and Lucina made it in over Chrom, but there's nothing ambiguous about "Chorus Men." There's no mistaking them for another character.

Then, at E3, we saw the Sneaky Spirit as a Smash Run enemy. Out of the dozens of non-playable IPs to give an enemy, Sakurai includes someone from the same series as the Chorus Kids, mentioned only two months prior by Gematsu.

That brings us to now -- the Chorus Kids trophy. It's a really odd trophy. Character trophies typically just give biographical details, but the Chorus Kids trophy talks about a bunch of GBA Rhythm Tengoku minigames/characters. Only the last sentence mentions the Chorus Kids.

Might be another ice climber situation , couldn't get it to work on 3DS but this time due to 3 instead of 2
There would have been 12 total if the chorus kids fight as a trio, poor 3DS would explode

*waves at Wii u version*

Ganondorf and Fox have custom moves that turn them into lean mean tier wrecking machines.

Ice Climbers were complicated because each one is two separate, fully-fledged, completely independent fighters, basically doubling the memory load, among other things. Chorus Men would presumably be a single fighter, just animated as if it was a trio (at max having a Pikmin-like "following" mechanic if there is a leader).

What a shock that Sakurai's Palutena got 12 completely unique moves.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
So, if you want to essentially make Wolf Lite, throw on equipment to boost Fox's power at the offset of some of his speed and go with Custom B 2 or B 3, Custom Side B 3, and Custom Up B 3. Having a lot of fun with this, and I think it'll help people be okay with Wolf not being in this Smash.

It's not enough, it's not someone ripping his enemies with his claws :(

Check up on JoeInky's Samus write up. Some of her customs sound really great and can change her game plan significantly.

My thoughts on the matter are that Ice Climbers and Chorus Kids were cut extremely late in development (like early 2014 late) and replaced with Dark Pit and Lucina. My opinion is that Doc was always in the roster and was shifted around to not make the other two clones look ridiculous in the CSS, as he's had a lot of work on him compared to Dark Pit and Lucina. You combine that with all the Melee nostalgia nods in the game and Doc makes a lot of sense. He was planned for Brawl, remember.

The smoking gun for me is the new Ice Climbers render/pose and Chorus Boys trophy and the treatment of Rhythm Haven as a playable series with trophy representation and Smash Run.

If we remove Dark Pit and Lucina, we can swap Game and Watch with Doc (and move Game and Watch to be with the other retro characters) and Ice Climbers and Chorus Boys fit cleanly in roughly the same area as Lucina and Dark Pit. Actually, the clone corner itself is located where Chorus Men would have been, since they were released in 2008, after Wii Fit Trainer, but before Shulk. This also might have allowed Shulk to move up a row and leave the third parties + mii to sit nicely at the bottom row.

And I entirely blame technical hurdles. Both characters had unique game play behind them that was just too much for the 3DS to handle with the quality Sakurai demanded. He wouldn't have cut Ice Climbers without a damn good reason to do so.

I think either both will be DLC if they can work out the issues with enough time, or will be exclusive to some re-release of the game on the new 3DS, or Ice Climbers at least will be in Smash 5. Guaranteed.

I guess that's just something we had to expect with a handheld Smash. But as much as I love Ice Climbers and miss them dearly, the handheld version is probably the best thing to happen to the Smash series.

I know its old but you have the craziest avatar on this site.. its like they both either laughing or crying their asses off and I cant scroll down without blowing a puff of air out of mouth begining to laugh. Every single time lol

To be fair, Dual Strike is a unique mechanic that represents Awakening as a whole, and so much of the story is about the relationship between Chrom and Robin. Two parts of a greater whole and all that. It's totally justifiable as a Final Smash, and it's not spoilery.
