As a person who has P:M...I agree with Ice. They robbed the stages of their charm, and while the novelty of "Yay melee" and Mewtwo and Roy is enjoyable...overall, it's pretty meh and very buggy.

I don't have an issue with creating the project per se, nor am I begrudged to the fact it became a tournament viable entry (Although I am wary of it on that front.) What I take offense to is how much they butchered from Brawl in order to make Melee 2.0 work to their terms. As for why they should honor his vision, maybe because they still have a game that's already out that has an established tournament criteria. As for the rest of your questions; Speed Runners are a grey ground for me, but I dislike glitch-assisted speed runs. Modding is okay so long as you're prepared for the time when your mod is no longer viable, either a; when the game is replaced, or b; when policy changes.

Are there really people hating on Project M? I've always loved Smash bros, each entry, and I loved Brawl. When I learned about all the competitive thing and how brawl was not as good for it I thought about it and it was right, I had not really realize it because I stopped playing melee when Brawl came out and I was too young to really feel the change, but I went back to melee and i loved it so much more. Being faster, not having tripping, being able to combo, getting more desserving kills on people, Jigglypuff having a useful rest move... Suddenly Project M was exactly what I wanted.

It's not a new Smash Bros, it's not supposed to have awesome stages that you enjoy and love well crafted by Sakurai, it's supposed to be for people that have already played a shit ton of smash bros and now want to do 1 VS 1 cool balanced battles, and the work they did with all brawl newcomers and melee veterans that weren't that good is INSANE.

I would have killed in the days of melee to be able to play a Mewtwo as good as Project M, feels so cool and overall how he should be, and Ivysaur got completely badass with the solar beam and all... Examples go on and on, but the thing is, no one is butchering brawl because brawl is still there, and I still go into brawl if I want to try the stages or play through SSE, but Project M is so much better when you want to fight friends and you already are good at it. The fights are awesome.

The only people who think that Melee wasn't balanced in terms of fun between competitive play and casual play invented it as a defense for Brawl. Basically, "Brawl isn't for you, huh? Well then Melee isn't for me! It's too fast!" The problem is that Brawl simply wasn't made for competitive players, but they wanted to play with the content added to Brawl in a game that they could have fun with. They didn't "butcher" Brawl any more than modders "butchered" Half-Life to be a deathmatch shooter in the form of Team Fortress.

This. I can't copy paste it enough. No one hated Melee when it was out. NO ONE said it was too fast, too hard or too glitchy because people used advanced techniques. All the hate came after brawl was out and a lot of people weren't interested in it competitively because it was not so good to master. THEN everybody who liked Brawl and had that feeling of "If you don't like what I like... then I don't like what you do, whatever it is".

Had Brawl been like melee in terms of gameplay, no one would have hated on no one, ever, and we would just be arguing the regular stuff, when would Ridley and Isaac be playable...

Sorry for the long post, and I hope we get a POTD soon or I'll go nuts with hype.

OT discusses the 3DS version, we still get updates on the wiiu version outside of PoTD.

We have no idea how frequent these updates are though. It seems silly to have a thread for info that may or may not come. It's not like Wii U talk is forbidden. I'm surprised there hasn't been a Smash Community thread in the Gaming Community section where people could talk about anything Smash related.

There was one before last year's E3 IIRC. Though I never participated because I joined GAF after E3.

i have no problem if we move these to the community for WiiU speculation while new info gets their own threads on the gaming forum.

i think after shipping the game and getting good feedback with no major bugs, sakurai just decided to get a bit of vacation for himself...

this is what he could've done if he didn't have to finish the wiiu version.

POTD wouldn't stop without an announcement that it was ending. It's just a holiday today in Japan, that's all. Save your panic for if there isn't a picture tomorrow (but there will be).

So, this is the way it ends, not with a bang but with a whimper.

Not really, I expect an announcement when he posts the last PotD

I don't expect a whole lot of information about DLC of any kind until next spring. It'll probably be approached exactly like Mario Kart 8.

Maybe Sakurai really wants to update with a pic of the Japanese retail copy of the game, and nobody told him that's not possible with the 3DS?

Since 99.9% of people in that thread missed it: today's a holiday in Japan. That's why there's no pic today.

A pic of the day of silence for all the veterans that were cut and all your favourite characters that didn't make it to the final game.

Holidays aren't necessarily on the same date each year. Easter, for example, is a very important western holiday which is on a different date each year.

Exactly, thank you :)

So what time is it Japan? I guess the pic of the day has to be uploaded within the next 3 hours to still be called Pic of the day...
