oh god, if they're on the board you can't get them as a drop?

Everything about the way you unlock these is dumb, do we have translations of the challenge boards?

I have a hutch that one custom per character might be locked to the challenges. People need to check and see if it's true.

Gamers and Gamerush changed it to the 9th!
I talked with the Gameplanet people and they "don't know" ):

well, according to their facebook page, this Monday they still listed the midnight sale on Oct. 2nd.
You can check it out here.

I wasn't criticizing you, clearly you are on #TeamMegaman, :p
I was just saying what I *think* is going on with why people are claiming he's bad. Basically: quick to judge.

yeah, that's exactly the problem... I bet they just dropped him after losing a couple of matches.

I just want to point out that Megaman's pellets cancel out most spammy projectiles.

Let that sink in for a second.

the only drawback I've found with megaman, it's that Mario was able to cape-bounce back to him his meteor smash... it was a nasty surprise.

also, most of his projectile attacks are useless against Link's shield.

So for everybody maining Link, i guess this little AT could become a big focus for his play-style: Bomb Dropping. Found it today, while playing the demo, and also saw a small discussion about it on SmashBoards. I filmed this short video showing the technic:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwJNRh7rrRs

You have to press Z-Air, while holding a bomb, to let Link drop it. If you press it fast enough after a short-hop, you don't even have Link draw his hookshot.

That could be useful on Toon Link.

I found some game and watch footage, he looks identical to brawl as far as I can tell.

http://youtu.be/4S0nwToVd8o

I think his nair is a little faster and stronger.

Also he has a new down taunt. For some reason instead of cutting one of his 2 bell-ringing taunts they cut the jump.

Hahaha I just barely beat Link in the demo just now. He dropped a bomb that detonated right after I hit him with a shoryuken in sudden death. He apparently left the screen moments before I did.

Here's a question for those who have played a lot of Smash Run. Have any of you seen this little guy driving about?

As well as potentially unconfirmed enemies like Skulltulas, Gamygas, Bytans, Hitmonlee, and Like Likes (based on their trophy arrangement)??

Yup, the Devil Car from Mother was seen as an enemy in the ESRB video leak.

I saw him (and a Starman!) once. I guess they're not very common, or I haven't played much in areas they spawn in.

I saw him. He was annoying as hell. Didn't see any of those listed at the end.

That would make sense to me. Not really the point of completing a challenge if it gives you a reward you already have. Or at least that's the way it was with trophies in Brawl, as opposed to powers in Uprising I think.

I don't think I've seen one person play as Samus, or hear any impressions of her. She's my main and I'd love to see how she plays this time around.

So to get the last villager custom I just needed to play on tortimer island once.

God dammit, I played smash run 11 times for that damn thing.

Same! I've seen a little footage though. She seems faster and to have a few more ways to kill which is very nice. Overall, she seems to be middle of the pack, but I've seen her hold her own(and win) against many characters that are getting more attention, so who knows.

I said this earlier and no one cared, it might be in the challenge board.

Don't think it's on the challenge board. The only Villager skill on the challenge board is the one on the first page I think. You can find the challenges here though they're in japanese. The automatic translation can suffice though

I didn't know customs were unlocked this way. Is this a Challenge that gave you the custom?

Also, unrelated, anyone have a link to the tourney that was hosted recently that featured custom movesets?

Yeah, some of them can only be unlocked via the challenge board apparently.

Did you happen to encounter any Skulltulas, Gamygas, Bytans, Hitmonlees, or Like Likes during your perilous adventures?

No, none of them are in Smash Run, I've played it over 200 times now and never seen them.

Does anyone know if we'll be able to set alternate colors for the Amiibo Fighters? I'd love to "raise" a green SMB1-style Bowser, with the straight-shooting fireballs, the claw dash, the rocket recovery and the vortex bomb.

lmao unlocking stuff in this game sounds like a total mess. There are unlocks from the challenge board, unlocks from playing Classic, unlocks from playing Vs., random drops from Smash Run...maybe it'll make more sense once we manage to compile a comprehensive list of all the unlockables, but for now, it seems like the unlock methods are all over the place.

I'm looking forward to seeing Villager's custom moves, as he's the newcomer I'm most excited to try.

Regarding Sakurai's role in the game that was being discussed before, this was said about Brawl:

http://www.joystiq.com/2008/02/22/gdc08-sakurai-on-super-smash-bros-brawl-development/

I can listen to Smash development stories all day. I love the way Sakurai approaches his craft, he is easily in my top 5 game designers ever.

And the animations in Smash are among the best I've ever seen in a video game. I plan on making a thread about it around the time of the Wii U version hits, the attention to detail is insane and each character feels more different than ever.

Thanks for the response. Guess that confirms that they were cut. I have to say, there's a lot about this game that seems incomplete...

Oh yeah, the animation in Smash is top-notch! Seeing your name, "SpinDasher," makes me want to point out how well Sonic animates. The transitions between spin-dashing -- across the ground, through the air -- and all of the drop-kicks, scissor-kicks, etc, is silky-smooth and borders on seamless.

Or look at the elasticity of Yoshi, how his extremities and noggin expand and contract to accentuate each move. Or how Bowser Jr.'s Clown Car has a toon-like "give" to it -- what appears to be a machine has an organic softness to it, making all of its myriad transformations fluid to the eye.

It's amazing. :-D

Yeah, unlocking shit in this game is a pain in the ass.
I recommend unlocking characters -> completing the challenge board -> going for customs. Go for customs with classic mode or smash run first (you'll get bored if you do one constantly, so alternate), and then through figure rush when you have a lot of coins to spend or get bored of those methods.
Oh, and in Smash Run, it might seem like a good idea to just run through the level trying to get treasure chests-don't. You won't get that many more, if any at all, and will just get really bored and frustrated.
But you're gonna get bored and frustrated regardless, because holy hell, it takes forever to get all the custom moves in this game.

Dunno if this has been posted but Sky has been uploading Character Spotlight videos for Smash 4 in the same vein as the Champion Spotlight videos that Riot puts out for League. Really informative stuff.

Today he uploaded one for Meta Knight. He also has one for Mario, looking forward to seeing more.

Is this a Smash community regular/commentator? He has a great voice for stuff like this.

Nice, enjoyed these LoL style videos. Looking foward to the rest.

He used to play competitively but then drifted off into MOBA stuff during the last few years of Brawl (just in case you didn't know: lots of Smashers got into LoL for awhile). Sky is planning on getting back into it again in Smash 4, though, and I think he definitely wants to commentate as well.

Thankfully only 9 of the custom moves are challenge board specific, and I just unlocked them all so there's no need to mess around with any of the other challenges (I am so glad you don't need to complete the second board to unlock the first, I could not be dealing with that)

Ah, thanks for the info. I had no idea Smashers moved to LoL. Talk about random, haha.
