At the moment, Gerrard is providing nowhere near enough on the ball to make up for his defensive shortcomings. You could see on the third goal, where he runs into the middle instead of tracking his man that he's just not learning how to do it properly.

We got away with it when we were buzzing around teams all game long and didn't give the opposition multiple chances every game to exploit our frailty, but we're getting twatted now.

Gerrard was clearly told not to defend at that point as he was too tired, hence we saw him up around their box and sticking around it. I don't think anyone was to defend there, Brendan went all in and Sakho fucked up a header and Skrtel gave too much space and Mignolet was a statue

That said, he was fucked and should be dropped for a game at least

Gonna wake up tomorrow and watch United grab all 3 points, then watch cheeky Jose sneak at least a point at the Etihad. then watch good American Football teams as my soon to be 0-16 Tampa Bay Buccaneers already got dismantled on Thursday. What a sunday.

Might as well have kept Agger since the others can't defend for shit anyway

Home crowd and intense atmosphere, along with Sturridge's return (hopefully) might see us beat Everton. Fuck all reason otherwise to be hopeful about it.

A lot went wrong today. Tactics. Players. Errors.

It took a long time for the team to even begin to play football. Lucas is done. Gerrard can't play more than a game a week and even that is pushing it.

We need Allen back ASAP. If he's fit we can drop Gerrard and Allen can play the deeper role.

Moreno needs to learn when to stay back and when to go forward. Manquillo looked lost today and taking him off early was a good idea.

Mig was poor in net conceding corners when he could of caught the ball.

If we sign Valdes and players come back from injury, I want to see this team:

Valdes
Manquillo-Lovren-Skrtel-Moreno
Henderson-Allen-Lallana
Sterling
Balotelli-Sturridge

Also, is there a special offside rule concerning the goal keeper?

A goal doesn't count if a player is offside and interferes with the keeper even though the player doesn't need to touch the ball, for example, blocking the keeper's sight or making moves that confuse him.

Does this rule not apply to defenders? Because for the second Mainz goal, the Mainz player (Hofmann) was clearly offside and forced Ginter to make a move (and thus the own goal). So, he interfered with our defender and that should be offside, right?

That still looks like teams would find it far too easy to run at our fragile defense. I'd put Can in the middle and rotate Lallana and Allen as necessary.

So can Liverpool fans talk about that Henderson/Gerrard midfield now? Or should we wait until Real Madrid? Sturridge's movement helps to cover the awful midfield as he drags players away from them so will be better when he is back I'd expect.

ghst

thanks for the laugh
play a blinder for the first half, successfully kill the game and nick another goal in the second half, everyone only talks about the opposition.

Gonna be a proper crap weekend if Donegal don't win the All-Ireland tomorrow. I don't have at my new flat which is crap, think Virgin will be 8 days late in installing it.

With Can out for a while and Milch saying how he's an injury prone player, I'm not sure he'll get much game time for a while. I would like to see Can more.

It honestly looks like half our team,
hell all of our team
is either brand new, out of form or injured.

The only players who aren't in one of those categories are Henderson and Sterling.

Henderson's job in the team today was not to cover Gerrard imo

He was disappointing in his own right, but Gerrard is in the worst form of his career probably, and there's no light on the horizon. Henderson can't be the team's harrier, tackler, move-beginner, ball-carrier, defense-shielder and main midfield threat at the same time, no matter how big his engine is.

Wednesday 1-0 Reading

Fuck it. I'm going to let myself get excited.

We are controlling games. We are dominating teams. We aren't conceding. We have a genuine quality goal scorer in Stevie May. We are both youthful and fearless and experienced and combative. And we are doing it despite 3 of our 4 best outfield players injured.

And we're doing it against the best sides in the division. The only team we've played so far that you wouldn't have backed to finish in the top half before the season started would be Millwall, and even then they're probably the divisions most improved side from last year other than us. The only team that's beaten us so far was Forest, a team that's battered almost everyone else they've played, and even then only by 1-0 in a game they could quite easily have lost.

And the manager Stuart Gray. Manager of this calendar year in any division.

It'll all go wrong eventually I expect. But sod it, Wednesday fans don't get to enjoy anything for very long and even then it's always about 2 decades until the next time. And this is exactly how Burnley did it last year.

BRIN IT ON.
