Nice find. I swear I must have watched at least a dozen hours of game play footage alone. I think the replay value will be significant which I think will help justify its purchase for those who don't like single-player only games.
Here's all of the videos. It looks like Game Informer had a feature on the game last year when nobody knew it existed. There's some really good stuff here.

Sandbox - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWIWzP0p1eU
Orcs - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S4XuQHORfl8
Story - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N2NBdUFguPA
Music - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUmXnA8aT_4
Monolith - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H0d0dWhJFTU

I think that's all of them. I'll update if I find more.

A passionate embrace, a beautiful memory lingers.
Are you not reading my posts? Im not making a case to the games quality. Its clear your looking for an argument and not interested in answering my question.

I just wanna take this moment and point out how nearly everyone misunderstood you in this thread. Goat aint ever do nothin to nobody, guys. To answer your question (which was probably answered somewhere in that weird "debate") If we're getting the embargo released 4 days before release, that tends to show signs of them feeling more confident with the product. So I am hopeful for the game.

:D

you speak so well
You've done good, my friend. You've done very good.

I sure hope so! Feels good to have finally taken the plunge into current gen.

If you have it digital, you can upgrade to the PS4 version for free.

Yep I know, I specifically bought it digitally because I knew I'd get a PS4 at some point (Bloodborne at the latest). Between that, other cross buy titles and Plus stuff I already have a little PS4 library, made the buy pretty easy really.

Awesome find again! It's interesting because when I was able to talk to some of the devs, I was given the impression that this was THE game for Monolith. I think what he meant was keeping the studio alive and thriving and this is supposed to be a testament to their hard work.

I am really looking forward to this, it reminds me of Dragon's Dogma in a few ways. Also, thinking back to all the good times I've had on PC with Monolith games gives me hope that the PC version will be a cracker.

One aspect of the game that I've come to really appreciate simply from watching videos of it is the variety in the Orcs. It would have been pretty easy to just copy & paste even the generic "grunt" enemy-types, but it seems they all look at least a little bit different from each other (size, facial features, armor, weapons used, etc).

Didn't get the memo regarding the 14th Amendment
This thread is reminding me of the days before Batman: Arkham Asylum (although not 100% exactly since I think there was more skepticism about Arkham Asylum due to the history of licensed franchises and the art style). I'm not saying that this game can reach that pinnacle that Rocksteady reached, but it definitely has a chance to. I hope it does because it would be awesome to have an awesome Lord of the Rings game franchise. I also wouldn't mind if they set this game in its own timeline within Middle Earth so when Tolkien's fiction may contradict events in this game (or series) then they can easily explain that away by saying that this is their own timeline of events with alterations while they still heavily rely on Tolkien's legendary universe.

EDIT: Actually, from looking at the story video from Game Informer, it seems that's the way they are going with the story. Acknowledging and being respectful of the source material, while being their own take on the universe. I just didn't want them to try to make the story with the source material 100% because I doubt they would be able to do that since they aren't Tolkien and they will inevitably have a story that wouldn't probably work within Tolkien's universe anyway. I have a feeling this take will make magic a lot more apparent and powerful than its use in the source material where it was more subtle.

I don't see where they can go from here though. Even if it's an AA style quality game, there doesn't seem to be much or any room for a sequel. Or are we going to have even more "adventures of the ranger who killed 4 million orcs but was not worth mentioning until this time"? Like they can do other LOTR licensed games, but so many of the mechanics here seem tied up with a unique and very specific story.

I think any good writer and a clever team could find a plausible way. Stop being so negative you.

Is PS4 confirmed 60fps? I would get on my new PC but I'm a trophy nut

I don't think it's 100% confirmed yet. Only that they're trying to get it there, and one of the GAFers on this thread that has played it on PS4 at PAX has said that it seemed to be a solid 60fps.

Given how much the complaints about screen tearing are going around I can't imagine the framerate is stable at all. Might be locked down by release but I would not bet on that horse. They'd be advertising it by now if it was.

I still can't decide if I want to get this or not. Never really been into LOTR, I know the basics of the lore but nothing in depth. The gameplay looks like it'd grab me, but I don't know if the world it's wrapped up in would. Hmmmm, I'll probably just have to watch more footage and read the reviews when they get posted.

Exactly, if everyone could see the general bent for storytelling direction then everyone would be publishing novels instead of electrocuting themselves and slapping friends on youtube. If you don't have the idea, someone else will.

Yeah, just hold out on reviews to help sway you one way or another. Those will go up on Friday.

The developers have stated that you don't really need to know LotR lore to appreciate the story telling here. In fact, it seems like the more lore you know, the more the liberties being taken here might annoy you, lol.

That all said, it seems like there are callbacks for people who know more otherwise all the necessary background is provided clearly without even needing to see the movies.

Yup, Dan Abnett is an amazing writer, just read his work with Marvel. I don't doubt they'll find a creative way to come up with a sequel. Since this game takes place between The Hobbit and LOTR trilogy, SPOILER:
You know Sauron isn't defeated by you as he's the whole reason for the Lord of the Ring's events taking place.
. If you don't want to read that spoiler, essentially the door is open for a sequel, it's all about how they present it.

Such things have never stopped any company in the history of games from finding a way to make a sequel if it meant a decent chance at earning good money, so I doubt those issues will prevent it here. Like you said, somehow this dude is super important but didn't get mentioned until now...so it already doesn't make sense. Him killing a few thousand more orcs in a sequel isn't gonna be any more silly, as far as lore goes.

Got the base game from GMG for $37.50 and the Season Pass for $12.10 from a dude on reddit for some TF2 keys. So all told I got everything for $49.60. I hope I have Tues/Wed off next week.

Game is great.

Arkham City + Assassin's Creed + Orcs, more or less.

Surprisingly good story & acting, too. Also best use of PS4 controller mic to date.

An easy fix: There was another ring made in secret... not to rule them all, but to change all. ALTERNATE REALITY, INFINITE SEQUELS!

The only problem will be naming the sequels. Probably Shadow of _____ series. (Admittedly no less awkward than Batham: Arkman's naming conventions.)

Middle-earth: [Object or Concept] of [Place or Person]

Done!

But like, Wraith powers? Nemesis system? War chiefs? Like anybody could be a warrior with magic powers but so much of this, both story and gameplay, seems based on this character of the wraith. I can't see a way to get him back in without making it super contrived in some way. At the same time I don't see them wanting to abandon all their hard work and just have the next game be some Elf with magic blasts.

If they made the series "Middle Earth: [Subtitle]" that would be much better than Shadows of X.

Shadow of Hobbiton. A game where you play as Gollum and murder shirelings. Avoid the sherriffs, manipulate the meals, and make a nemesis of all warponies.

Gollum will be the Celebrimbor, Smeagol can be the Talion.

I would buy it.

When are the reviews due? No interest in the game personally, but I'm thinking about buying it for a gift.

Embargo for console versions is Sept 26th, IIRC. PC version will have zero coverage until release.

I'd make the Sackville-Baggins and the Tooks face off in the most violent annual gathering ever, lol
