Oh lord - my ghost is TERRIBLE on that course. I wish I could delete it, haha. My next run will be much much much cleaner. :)

Now that all of you guys are replaying my course, I really need to get a better score there as well.

Edit: You also should add "The Gauntlet by dano" to the GAF courses. Unfortunately has framerate issues, but its a really cool course actually.

I'm trying to create a local course. I somehow managed to change the length of a hole but can't remember what I did. Any help?

Edit: got it. I wasn't zoomed in enough, was missing the tee box.

I'm going to do this with the little par 3 9-hole course I played at home all the time, as well as the local 18-hole we have a company membership to. There's also the course that goes inside the Motor Speedway that would be fun to recreate...Actually, there's a shit ton of fantastic courses by me that would be fun to make. :p

Are you in Indianapolis? I used to work as a camera operator on the blimp and was blown away to see a golf course on the infield of the speedway. Had no idea.

I am - the track is only ~10-15 minutes from my house. My wife drives by it every day on her way to work. I've never played the course myself, but I hope to one day. I'm not a good enough golfer to justify the cost, ha.

Can you resume a round in progress on this game?

Also has anyone done any semi-accurate recreations of Augusta or Pebble Beach or any other famous real-life courses?

Looking into picking this up, EA Sports is off to a terrible start this generation in my opinion so I don't have much hope for PGA Tour when it comes out in 2015. Would rather back the little guy.

Was working on the 5th hole of my home course when it came up with an error and kicked me out to the ps4 dashboard. Bummer. Didn't save anything.

Yes, there is a continue option to resume your game

I haven't seen any accurate representations yet but I'm sure people are working on them.

Also, cool to see some other Indy people in here as well

Stone Reach Golf Links is a near exact replica of Pebble Beach's layout (Get it? Stone Reach / Pebble Beach). It's an "official" course too.

There is an Augusta clone published. It's pretty good. Easy to find using search.

You're in Indy, too? West side in Avon here. ;) We have a membership to Twin Bridges if you've been there.

I don't live in Indy anymore (it's been more than 35 years), but I still have family in the Brownsburg/Pittsboro area which is pretty close to Avon I believe.

Brownsburg is really close to my house, yeah.

Game related, I am SHOCKED how incredible these load times are. Little framerate dips are forgivable on all levels when you have zero load times between holes! So incredible!

OK, played 45 holes tonight and have some questions and observations.

Observations!

1. Do people think 18 holes is fun when there are multiple 600+ yard holes? Because its not. Its tedious.

2. How about those carnival greens! Woo! </sarcasm> Fun on holes where the approach shots aren't hard. Annoying otherwise.

3. Fantasy courses are just that - fantasy. But there's no need to make a green shaped like an hourglass with a peak at the choke. Some fantasy decisions are so over the top that it takes something out of it.

Questions!

1. Anyone figure out how power works? I know that 100% is full stick back, but how do you hit 95%, 70%, 55%, even 40%?

2. Does holding the stick back for an extended period of time reduce the power? Or can I hold it back 100% for 5 seconds and still get 100% power?

I think that's it for now. I'll be putting in a lot more this weekend.

Don't you just start your down swing when the animated is at the percentage you want it at? You can still pull all the way back, just start your downswing earlier.

I'm sure this has been suggested on their forums, but I would really like if that cheezy chase camera wouldn't happen like in Tiger, and instead we'd have the option to just keep the camera from your golfer's view all through the ball flight. Again, like Tiger sim mode. I tried turning off approach cam and the other, but that just takes away your pre-shot views.

1. Like mentioned above, just start the downswing when the animation is at the point you think you need for a given percentage. I usually pull it full back and see where it automatically stops, let it reset to address, then try to guess where 70/55/40 is in relation to the top.

I've found it difficult if not impossible to get flops below 50%, so if I need to do that I will change the shot setup (hold LT on PC with controller) and set the shot for higher which automatically takes off yardage for a full swing... then I'll recalculate and try to hit the new higher percentage.

2. After 3 seconds of holding at the top the golfer auto-returns to address. It doesn't seem to reduce power if you pause and then swing before that happens though. If anything, it throws off your rhythm and makes it easier to slice or hook, but that very well could just be me.

Xbox patch sent to ms...

A new developer blog speaking primarily of the XB1 version patch that was submitted to Microsoft on Friday, check it out here:

http://thegolfclubgame.com/2014/09/1...tch-submitted/.

From the looks of the information contained in this article, it looks like they've made more sweeping fixes and improvements to the XB1 version than most of us would have imagined. The biggest impression I got from reading it was how much the point of "improved frame rate" was emphasized. I agree that it's the area that's in the most need for attention on both console versions of The Golf Club, but as an owner of each, I can easily say that it needs shoring up more with the XB1 version. Improved frame rate is cited as a benefit from changes and fixes in three separate bullets in the blog that are being treated by the patch:

1.) Several Memory Leak Issues

Improved stability.

Improved frame rate

Course Saving error after a few hours of play – fixed.

Fixed crash that could occur if the user stayed on a certain screens for an extended period of time.

2.) Improved Performance

Optimisations, to improve frame rate.

3.) Audio

FMod Thread affinity fix.

Also improved frame rate of the game.

I think HBS is trying to emphasize that they understand the need for frame rate improvement in the XB1 version and I'm relieved to see that they are putting such a high priority on it. Regarding bullet #3, as a game coding layman, can someone explain to me how one improves the frame rate of a game via a change to the audio? I'n not saying it can't happen, I'm just trying to expand my understanding of the relationship between the two. I'm also unsure or what is meant by an "FMod Thread Affinity"?

One final note I'd like to add here is that I'd recalled that some 'graphics enhancement' would be seen in the XB1 version thanks to the new SDK that Microsoft has put in their hands. The only improvement item listed in the patch blog relating to the new SDK was "This fixed issues with blocky Terrain Editing within course designer." I was hoping that what this might have also meant in terms of graphics enhancement was the implementation of some degree of antialiasing, or perhaps and increase in the level of anisotropic filtering? Maybe it's there and the blog simply didn't mention it?

Nonetheless, I think we're going to have a much more stable and playable game once this patch is applied to the XB1 version of The Golf Club!

Also ....
Graphically we’re still working on improvements, but with the size of the area in view we really are putting a lot of pressure on the GPU. We can’t dictate what the player is seeing because, with the course editor, people could create anything. So to keep the frame rate high, we’ve needed to drop to 720p. We will continue to work on this though and slowly push to 900p and above. It’ll just take a bit of time.

So basically I no longer have friend leaderboard functionality. Anyone know why this would happen? This entire week whenever I log in I no longer see messages about courses friends have played, no longer see ghosts, no longer see anything really social.

I'll tell you what, without that stuff that game is nowhere near as good.

That's strange... PS4 or Xbone?

That's very strange.

Last few times I've played I've been unable to complete a course due to server disconnects. It's very frustrating.

Is the game playable without a controller on PC?

I have a controller but it would be nice to play on the go,

This game crashes an insane amount to the dashboard on PS4, sheesh. :/
Yeah that happened to me the other day. That's when I discovered that when a game crashes you can attach a video of it to your crash report that gets sent to Sony which I thought was pretty neat.

Yeah they added that in 1.7 IIRC, they also added an auto-report option which is good.

But yeah.. 5 times today, no other game has even come close to this. Kinda soured me on the game now, first impression and all that. Seems like a solid golf experience though so I'll stick with it.

Yeah, it crashed on me 4 times in the same swing. Gonna hold off on firing it up again until they address it with an update.

Does this game have online multiplayer? Not talking about ghosts, I mean where you can actually take turns shot for shot with another person?

Is this game worth picking up on PS4?

The last good golf game I liked was Links 2004 on the original Xbox

Yes, especially if you liked the Links games.

Trying to get the 100 custom courses trophy but that'll be a huge pain to do as the game crashes on almost every single player made course... sigh.

I still can't seem to figure out how to get the right power on my stroke.

If I pull the stick all the way back, I get 100%. Check. Now, if I pull the stick back only, say, 75-80% back, the animation seems to stop at about 70-75%. Great. But if I want 85-90% power, there's no in between. Same with like, 50-60%. I'm either missing something or just can't do it. I also know I could slow my follow through down, but that' method is wildly erratic and has no real world "feel" like an animation swing would/should.

I've gotten into the swing of (huehuehue) pulling back 100% but then easing the follow-through semi-consistently to what I'm aiming for. Seems to me that the pull-back strength matters very little if at all.

If you are trying to get 80-90% power, I think the best way is to add loft to your shot and then still play it with a 100% swing.

Just like real golf, you should always be taking a "full" swing whenever possible. That's why you have a bag full of clubs and the ability to open your club face. Unless you are within 30 yards of the green (flop shot best shot!) you should never be trying to taking something off your swing.

This is probably going to be my new approach - seems like the best option.

Thanks for the thoughts/tips/suggestions everyone!

This is true. When I play "real" golf, I rarely if every try to take anything off a shot as it almost never ends up with the desired result (usually end up coming up short). Opening the club face and/or playing the ball forward in my stance while taking a full swing produces much more consistent results (or as consistent as I would normally be).

It's one of the reasons I love the swing mechanic and club face dynamic in The Golf Club and really one of the things that gives it such a natural feel.

It crashed constantly on me this weekend though and now when I load it up my fans go bonkers. So....neato.
