Have to find that (ch5)
keycard in the medical facility with the Alien following my every move
and I think I missed a save terminal......

well fuck, I did just that and overwrote my previous save. I havnt played a survival horror game in a long time and forgot the oldest rule in the book.

have multiple saves.

It isn't immediately obvious but the game keeps two saves at all times, so unless you've saved twice after the woman has alarmed the looters you can hit "load game" in the menu and pick "previous save". If nothing else works you can always restart the mission.

I'm a little sad to say that as of mission 8, I don't find the game very scary. It's very tense but not scary. I guess the alien is too familiar or something. I'm still having a blast with the game though. Those moments where you just barely avoid the alien's attention are so good.

Yeah you kind of get desensitised to the Alien after a while.....which is a good thing as i dont think i could cope with 20 hrs of the way ive felt the first 3-4 hours playing the game

I don't know how to I should be playing this. If I just sit tight and try to wait out the Xeno he just keeps coming back and roaming the same hallway even though he doesn't see me. If I tip toe my way to the next area while staying out of sight the whole time, he just spawns from the overhead vent right behind me anyway once I get too far away. Does dropping down to easy make any difference?

Anyone else think this game looks amazing? I don't own it yet but plan on picking it up soon, but watching videos e.t.c some of the tunnels and space ship sections look lifelike. Likewise with some of the aliens movements, when it drops out if a vent or slowly walks around, they really nailed the atmosphere.

I hope CA get to handle more future alien games .

It is the best looking game I've played in years.

Yes. The fact that this game looks so good and runs like a dream is something to behold.

I am enjoying this game so far. I'm not very far. I've encountered a few bugs though, that forced me to restart or load saves several times, which has been frustrating especially early on when it was already very slow... but now after having passed the hospital area, I am very glad I stuck with it.

Don't wait. The xeno should follow a semi-regular patrol pattern in relation to your position if it doesn't know you're there. Go for the gap like any other stealth game.

Also make noise grenades. You should never see the components maxed out sign when you try to pick something up.

Just started playing this in my lunch at work on PS4...
Only played the first hour but its brilliant and very enjoyable...

Only issue I have is how jerky the cut scenes are... Seems to be reading the discs at the same time...

I havent checked but I wouldnt be surprised that you cant switch difficulty mid game, you probably will have to start all over...which I certainly wont do,if you can go for it,I might do it also,if not quit while you are ahead, the game is hard even on normal.

I've been playing for a little over an hour and I'm starting to get tired and a little light-headed. Am I just tired because I woke up early today, or could this be that motion sickness or whatever that's called? Might try the game again tomorrow after a better night's rest to see if I'm still having these little issues.

edit: For whatever it's worth, I had the same problems with RAGE. I never finished that game, largely due to it just being a very uninteresting game in my opinion. But I had this kind of wooziness there as well. I blamed it at being 60FPS and "too fast/fluid" for me, but I didn't have the problems with other shooters like BioShock Infinite.

Quick question. Have the game ready to go on Steam and just re-watched Alien last night.

I guess this is a spoilery question, but do you ever go to an alien environment in the game (like the surface of a moon or the Space Jockey ship) or is it all Nostromo-esque space stations and human space ships? Watching Alien again and the bits in the Space Jockey ship are so great.

Major mid-game spoiler:

You get to see a flashback that revisits the planet from Alien. You walk around the surface a bit and also see the interior of the infamous ship

Later game spoiler:

You enter an alien hive. Walls are covered with unnatural growth.

Anyone else experience microstutter sometimes on the ps4 version? especially during cutscenes but also frequently during gameplay. The game freezes for a split second and it happens every so often. sort of doing my head in

If this keeps up it's likely due to a low FOV and/or maybe the chromatic aberration effect makes you uncomfortable, it's quite intense by default. If you're on PC you can both increase the FOV and reduce CA in the settings, no idea what they allow you to change on consoles though.

Apparently there's some spelling mistakes in the code for Alien behaviour on hard mode, which is causing some wierd movement

Not sure if it's just PC, might be other platforms too.

That makes no difference
Hi guys,

Just got confirmation from our Lead AI programmer that this has no effect on the difficulty. No difficulty setting modifies (or even mofisies!) the value, so it has no bearing on anything.

Any "change" you may spot in difficulty will only be placebo.

Fantastic spot though! Good job!

Pretty much done with this...game should auto save everytime there is an update to your Objectives at least...Mission 6 is an exercise in trial and error, frustation and well not fun and from what I am reading it gets even worst later on so what's the use...I knew this would happen for me but hey I had fun until then...might try a few times again before I bring the rental back but I feel I am just wasting my time now.

Modern gamers, tzk... ;)

I actually feel that the game is sometimes too generous with the save points. Mission 7 (or maybe it's 8) has two like a room away from each other.

Interesting. I wonder if the success stories are just anecdotal nonsense of if theyre really onto something there. Seems like the sort of issue perfect for mass placebo effect.

The guy is saying all difficulty modes have issues.

As Different difficulties have different errors, here is a file with the fixes applied for all modes - https://www.dropbox.com/s/ynlwroiugmbxion/DIFFICULTYSETTINGS.rar?dl=0

Video is being uploaded now.

Here, a dev posted this:

Another reply:

These lines of code are in fact correct! The string you see pulls data from our code base, which is also spelt exactly the same. These lines of code are used, and editing them will indeed cause issues, as the string can no longer read that parameter correctly.

We have QA'd it for functionality, but perhaps not readability or good spelling!

The OP responds:

I call BS, as each file has a set value which is not applied within the Hard mode. The Alien has calmed down considerably and I can actually leave the area without it being glued to my ♥♥♥.

Then why is it spelt differently in Easy/Medium compared to Hard?
Going on record, expect a stealth update to silently correct these issues soon.

Will be interested in seeing videos. Right now I'm siding with the dev but it does seem strange that the spelling isnt consistent. Also that at first the dev said it would do nothing and later said it would break stuff. I do know that there are a crapload of spelling errors in games all the time. Coders dont give the slightest shit as long as it all matches up.

Kinda wish the game killed Samuel earlier. For a game called "Isolation" I didn't feel very... isolate. It should have been just me, Ripley and the ship.

People still care about achievments?

I got an achievement for getting hit by android while using a computer. Fucking lol'ed

Yeah, it seems to happen when you get to loading doors or when you enter a new area for the first time.

But it's not just the cutscenes, at least not for me. The in-game animations make the characters look like ventriloquist dolls and it's quite distracting given how polished the rest of the game is.

I came from Wasteland 2 which has little to no voice acting with plenty of texts with no facial animation whatsoever, so I can forgive the fact that CA used their interns to hand-animate in-game NPCs.

I agree that it's jarring when you're close to the in-game NPCs, but it's a technical downside that I'm able to overlook or forgive.

Nope, that's just the PS4 version. Cutscenes are a bit jumpy and the game hitches a bit when streaming in new areas.

Yep this is true. Game stutters a little bit when loading new areas ahead. This often happens before you can even see the area ahead, making it feel like it just stuttered for no good reason.

I don't think I've read of anyone using this strategy before, but this is what I did.

Walk up to the room, make some noise so they notice you and then run back into the room you came from. Do a left turn and get inside the vent. Crawl your way to the other side and wait for them to go past the exit vent. Try to get three of them out of the way. Once they do that, get out of the vent and run. Oh, and dont get shot.

My strategy was to go all the way around (behind where they spawn) and hit them all with the wrench until they died. 100% effective.

Worst bit of the game for me because whenever I tried to do it "right" there was a guy right by the exit that was always facing the way I was going.

The way I did it:
Trigger he fleeing. Explore area, get ID tag behind desk, get items and such. Grab the hacker to trigger the group. get your ass up the stairs on the side the come from. Hide behind the box that they walk past. Wait for all three to go past. Move a little bit/peek so you can seer the guy that stays by the door. Wait for him to turn his back and go up tot he room. Sneak past to the stairwell.

Very easy to do it that way as I had so many failed attempts trying to be smart and use the bypass things to set off speakers and cause distractions (none worked) and I kept getting caught or not seeing an opening to get to the stairwell either route (walkway or by the room).

Do you have to recharge the stun baton somehow? I used it on an android and no I can't seem to be able to anymore. It just reads 0.

That's exactly how I did it on the 5th try.

The 4th try I could have pursued a little more, I guess:

I poked my head out while crouched on the stairway leading into the lobby, which drew their fire. I waited til they started to approach, backed out of the door, sprinted around the corner to the left, crawled in that vent, and looped back around to that door. Didn't see them in the hallway, figured the game had basically put up an invisible wall forbidding those NPCs from coming out (sorta like the invisible wall they put up that stops them from coming in until I pick up the item), so I went back the way I came. Crawled out of the vent, walked back around the corner to the stairway - and got shot by three people hanging out in the hall. So I probably COULD have knocked something over by the vent, had them run around the corner, and popped out the other side and sprinted up the stairs to the exit on the right. But I was like "Maybe if I just hide behind that one box at the top of the stairs they come down... and that did it
