Super Smash Bros. Direct - Oct 23(US) & Oct 24 (JP/EU)

Broken Joystick

At least you can talk. Who are you?
@nron10 When I was at NYCC I swung by the Nintendo World store where they were filming the Wii U Smash Bro direct.

I hope Sakurai and the dev team referenced your butt because I want all of these to happen. I'm getting a capture/streaming device but it would still be nice to see a way to share and upload replays too, ideally better than the extremely restricting MKTV in MK8.

Don't ask him how to cite his butt, it's a mess

So I'm going to go ahead and pull a complete "50 Must-See Things" list out of my butt:

48. Expansive Nintendo Trivia mode... have you been paying attention to the trophy descriptions?

If any of this actually happens, then I definitely don't expect to receive my complete royalty check for having my ideas stolen by Nintendo, that would be so crazy and I am no such thing.
PLEASE. I would play this SO HARD.

Ridley's announcement will take up multiple slots because he is too big. Possibly 1-45 will be Ridley, leaving the remaining five to be game modes.

I'm sure the majority of these 50 things will be fluff, but I'm still hyped for those several announcements that are sure to be amazing. People here expecting to be let down by stages... I'm all for Wii U stages! We've seen so little of them.

Board Game mode being Amiibos only would break my wallet, so no thanks.

Only thing I'm hoping for is DLC confirmation!
Other than that, I'll take anything they throw at us.

Unless bayonetta is announced as a playable character (which won't happen) I can't see this doing anything else than harm to bayonetta's sales. Even then it would still steal the spotlight. It's hilarious.
And fucking sad.

I really dont see how a 30-40 min ND is gonna effect the sales of a game in a negative way.

If your gonna get Bayo 2 your gonna get it, if your not your not

I completely agree. Owing to Smash, I'm not going to be playing Bayonetta until January at the very earliest.

It doesn't help matters one bit that the direct is coming the night of the north american release.

By shifting the buzz to SSB. The impact won't be that big, but there will be some, if the games media will rather cover the SSB news instead. Let's see how Nintendo's own social networks will split the coverage this week between Bayo and SSB Direct.

Not everyone that buys a game in the launching week is pre-ordering or even religiously following that game.

I doubt anything Bayonetta related will be in the Smash, but I'm sure it will be mentioned during the Direct at least. Something like "putting down Bayonetta 2 to watch this" or whatnot. Just a reminder that the game exists and will be out.

Alright, here we go!

I'm expecting a fancy Bowser Jr trailer that also shows off the 8-player mode by having the Koopa Kids bicker and duke it out for the spotlight.

In the last Smash direct where they showed them for 2mins and barely said anything about them other than you can level them and they have special abilities? If they want these things to have some real purpose and actually sell past the 1st wave then I can guarantee that was only scratching the surface of their usefulness in this game, not to mention all the others.

Yet somehow a general direct would pull more people than that? The majority of the people who even watch directs in the first place actually seek them out and see if there's something coming, the general public wouldn't even notice if it was a huge direct where they announced everything. Outside of showing things at e3 where more people know about gaming news and expect there to be something, directs serve little purpose other than to get info out there to the people who actually give a shit in the first place, the average consumer isn't even going to care about them due to them not being thrown directly in their face everytime they go in a store or open up their browser.
I honestly doubt there's much more to amiibos than what they've already shown. What are you expecting?

 hype

I'll be working at 6 pm Friday though, L :/
I can see a smash demo for registering bayonetta 2

Do it Sakurai x the most sales of a platinum game, boom

I don't understand why some think that a Nintendo Direct about Smash, which is coming in late November, could affect the sales of Bayonetta 2 which is launching the same date as the Nintendo direct.

I mean, one is a game's launch, the other is multiple announcements about a game launching a month after. Bayonetta 2 pretty much had it's media focus during the reviews process and it's still getting incredible good reviews today. I guess it's not the best idea to have both events the same day, but to the point it could affect one's sales? Not sure about that...

Feel free to point me how it could affect Bayo 2 sales though, I'm not a marketing expert, after all. :p

EDIT: Though the idea of one event helping the other, like the 'Get a Smash U demo if you register Bayo 2' is freaking brilliant!

Is it possible that the Wii U version will have more characters and that there will be an N.3DS version with the new characters?

both version WILL have the same characters. So, if the wiiu version allows you to unlock new characters, it should be possible to unlock them in the 3ds version, at least in the future.

My preference would be for them to do general directs every 2-3 months and to continue the trend of doing big game-specific ones a few weeks prior to each game launch. That said, it might be unsustainable for them to try to do mini-E3s 4-6 times per year.

Overall I am extremely happy with how they have handled the dissemination of their game announcements this year.

I think every 3 or even every 4 months would be a good compromise for general Directs. I usually hope for news from those, but news can only come so often when it takes years to make each game. For additional details, individual game Directs work better.

It seems like we'd usually have 1-2 good general Directs per year, and the rest just rehashing the same information. Having one every other month was overkill, it seems like.

I'm pretty sure that "WW Direct every 2-3 month" was their pattern for 2013 and early 2014. They stopped since they realized that they don't have enough content for more than just 1-2 and their E3 showing. Which is why I'm betting that they'll settle for "February Direct for 2015 releases, E3 Direct for future projects, and single game Directs throughout the year"

Here's my more conservative list of what the 50 things could be, though I only got to 30. I tried only to use things that there are official signs pointing to being in the game, though I did speculate on two.
