Twitch consistently halts loading and says that the system is out of memory ever since 2.0 :[

I have to browse on a different device, figure out the url and directly type it in to access a page that may or may not work, vs. the lists on twitch that 100% don't work. My following stream page sometimes works. Bleh.

(and of course I've gotten the rest mode issue multiple times and there are periods of time where the messaging service doesn't work at all)

I don't have that button and there a no themes in the store. ;(
:( Weird.

tbh i dont think they've really optimized the browser for memory intensive stuff. they really need a separate twitch app

Yup. It's weird though cause the page with the actual video is generally ok. It's just the lists of preview pics it can't handle.

Let's not jump to conclusions. We don't know what they are doing and to call it lazy or incompetent is lazy and incompetent. For one, whatever slow down is going on is from Sony themselves because they are the one who are hiding their OS team. It's not like the OS team is asking to keep everything on the hush hush. Secondly, I don't know for certain if the OS team hasn't suggested anything but from what I've heard from one person on this site and a couple in the PS Blog, they have added suggestions, and yet again, Sony chooses what goes first, second and third.

So all in all, the OS team is doing their jobs, the people who employ them are not. That's the issue.

Sadly, the OS team isn't the only team they have in hiding the Network Operation team has never been seen or heard of. There need's to be some form of transparency from both of those department's. None of this make's any sense from a pure business standpoint. If you want to take for granted saying the hardcore user's are the only one's that complain and are aware of the problem's and relate that information between each other's I don't even want to know within the last couple of day's how many PS4 systems have been returned or sent for service from consumer's believing their system are defective. A simple message like what they posted on Twitter today on the Playstation/Blog/Support page would help. Instead they give people the normal song and dance about safe mode rebuild the database etc.

On the network side of things it's even more depressing since all of Sony service's go down when their are issue's which seem to only get answer's when there's a law suit or people storming the gates with pitch forks if you will. I've contacted them about the messaging lag and explained to them that it's happening via the phone app also, the answer I got back was to reboot my router. If you go and look at the PSN status page even through thousand's are posting on twitter saying it's down PSN status will be Green and say it's up.

Have used rest mode several times since the update and had it freeze on me just two times. Coincidentally those were the times i left it in rest mode to download. Am going to turn off the console from here on in. Support for this console has been seriously lacking in terms of updates. We finally get some features we were promised at the reveal and they fuck up rest mode. The morons who are responsible for updates should all be fired, complete and utter incompetence

Might as well rename Rest mode to RIP mode.
Tried using it 3 times yesterday and the orange light kept blinking. I'll just wait till they fix it I suppose.

I don't understand why they renamed Standby to Rest Mode. But I've just been putting my PS4 into off mode.

After playing some blu-ray's today and switching the PS4 fully off after use, I've now encountered an infinite loop of booting into safe-mode. Reinstalling 2.0 temporarily fixes it, but after I switch it off (yep, off, not stand-by), if I try to turn on my PS4 again, it goes straight into safe-mode.

Good thing I just pre-ordered an Xbox One. I'm getting mighty fed-up with Sony at the moment.

Too scared to put it into rest mode due to the reported bug. My launch unit used to spit out discs randomly during the night and start beeping non stop. My experience hasn't been particularly good and I don't want to make it worse!

The fact that major console functionality is potentially broken and they haven't said a single thing about an incoming fix even from a PR 'putting minds at ease' standpoint is quite baffling.

I tweeted shu and asked if they knew about the 2.0 issues and if there was an ETA on a rest mode fix. He responded and said they are working on it.

I'm willing to bet there's a problem with your HDD.

Rest bug just happened to me :( How connivent, just about time for my warranty to expire. I'm shocked that there wasn't a day one fix or at least some official tweet about it. Missing Microsoft's quick support a little.

I haven't downloaded the update yet, so let me get this straight. What's the rest mode virus?

I like to think it is in preparation for suspend/resume. Resting is like sleep mode on your laptop, whereas standby is what you do with your TV.

Or maybe it is to reflect the larger current draw compared to what people would expect from standby?

I don't know why people are calling it a virus... but essentially it is just a an error where when the console is left in rest mode it sometimes refuses to wake back up properly and will cause a blinking light and has to be hard reset. There are some theories about a disc being left in and the length of time it is in rest mode for however no definitive answers yet to my knowledge.

I downloaded it and the only major error I've had has been that one... drives me insane but it does seem to be acknowledged by Sony now.

Is just a BUG that keeps your PS4 from getting into standby/rest mode.

You then have to turn it off manually by holding the power button on the console for about 15 seconds.
It's recommended to just turn you console off completely and avoid the standby/rest-mode till the next update hits.

This is by no means a virus, you sillys!

While I don't know if I would agree they are lazy, I'll get on board with them being incompetent or at the very least, quite lacking. They really do need to change something for the future, you're definitely right about that.

Scrapping an entire team at once might be harmful if the new people all have to understand the firmware at the same time. Slowly replacing the FW team or adjusting it somehow to improve it is absolutely necessary. Moving them to the West might be a good option as well. I definitely agree -- something has to change.

iOS 8.0.0 and 8.0.1 have had far bigger issues than PS4 FW2.0, and same goes for almost every major new update on Android.

I dont see anyone calling out Apple to remove their FW team. And they are not in Asia either.

Far bigger issues seems like it would be subjective to the perspective of a particular consumer. Apple may not be called out about their FW team but they get called out on other things like having their customer service department fired. I don't think getting rid of an entire group and replacing them is a good strategy but moving them or opening communication more could prove to be very useful.

I'm not sure what you mean when you say they aren't in Asia. Apple has a presence in Asia. Or is it that they are not headquartered in Asia?

I think it is also important for me to note that I have had zero issues with my PS4 and I'm happy with this. These problems everyone else are having aren't affecting me. I also understand complexities and problems of software development and know that calling them out in gaming press will do nothing. But I also think there is a lot of room for improvement when it comes to some of their work.

Apple pulled iOS 8.0.1 very quickly and people that did not update their iOS operating system could still get online and visit the Apple Store (and make purchases). Is that the same with Sony's 2.0? If a person does not update their PS4's firmware, can they play online, use PSN, ...
etc. Oh, and how quickly was iOS 8.02 released? The next day, or 48-hours later? Just like Sony - right. Sure it is the same thing.

Even now. I don't know why anyone isn't on board with Sony trashing it's current FW team and putting in place a new more competent one.

At a point I get tired of seeing this crap

Certain people here seem to be expert analysts who seem to know everything about the PS4 OS architecture, their skills of their OS team and how they work by calling them lazy
and the one that really annoys me is they should have a team in the west (because of Xbox OS) taking away the fact how ahead the Japanese are with technology compared to the west and Sony might actually have different OS teams in each Sony countries divison so that a wide array of OS information can be collected and passed rather than just information from Japan

Also it is made to seem like Sony are the first company to release a firmware update with bugs, and it is not even affecting everyone, everyone's problems are not even the same with mainly Rest mode being the issue.

Sony has an OS team who has brought many updates full of something different and great for the PS4 OS. with shareplay just being a proper next gen console feature and many other improvements that might not be noticed but make a helluva difference to your gaming experience. They are competent in what they have produced, how fast or slow they release the updates is based off making decisions by heads of Sony and information being collected from feedback

I understand people are having frustrating issues after the firmware update but the complete lack of knowledge of Sony OS divison and also the crappy opinions full of themselves by telling Sony what to do with their OS team or which country to use and most of all the exaggerations is unbelieveably something else

IN OTHER NEWS: http://gearnuke.com/sony-acknowledg...e-issues-gives-update-ps-lineup-announcement/

Sony have acknowledge the problems and are looking into fixing it

That is not the point

The point he is making clear is that other companies also release firmupdates with even more massive issues but dont get stupid opinions like replace your OS team

The fact you have to update your console to go online has been there is PS3, You can easily put off your wi fi and not just update if it so much of a problem with you

8.0.0. had issues and 8.0.1 was out in 7 days, that had huge screwup so it was pulled and 8.0.2 was 24hrs later (and in between your phone couldnt make calls), then 8.1 was out 4 weeks later and all of the issues are still not ironed out.

And it is not the first time, every major released had a bug fix release few weeks later.

There is no reason for anyone not to update to 2.0, simply dont use rest feature. It is far smaller issues that what our phone OSs give us regularly every few months.

Just giving you some perspective. Whenever there is a big change, there will be bugs. As long as they dont brick consoles or phones for that matter, it is not that bad.

I see a lot of people attacking my posts.

At some point you get tired of excuses. People are still have issues with Friends List and Messages. That should have been corrected.

Time and again when Sony updates the FW we wonder if the console is going to be bricked or what is going to be broken.

This is the second major updates in months. I'm not saying there should be no bugs but damn. You expect them to take this long to release and update you almost expect them to iron out the kinks.

And yes when your competition is adding features monthly and features that everyone wants. Yes I will hold you to that standard. Just like we need to hold PSN to the standard of Xbox Live

Well, I finally decided to do the update, and I have the rest mode bug, too. So does my nephew, and my roommate, who also updated this weekend.

Share play works pretty well, though. We tried it on side-by-side TVs, and the remote TV lags about a quarter second behind. The games look good, and are playable with that level of lag. We tried Alien Isolation and Trials. I'll probably never use the feature again, myself, but I am impressed at the tech.
