Quick question from a new GCU member:

For every single new release I buy, does Best Buy always offer $40 back for it if I sell it back used within a couple weeks of release? Or is that only when they do the 50% extra promotion like the one that is going on now? I seem to remember some people basically using this as a rental service.

From my understanding, Best Buy typically gives around $40 trade in for new release titles if you trade within a week or two.

However, I'm also under the assumption that baseline trade ins were lowered due to the 50% more trade in credit.

After the 50% more promotion is over, I think the baseline will go back up.

I could totally be wrong, but I'm basing it off of the info others have mentioned about trade in amounts. I checked the titles that they mentioned, like Evil Within, and it's siting at $27 base trade in, when others said they traded it before the promotion for $40-$44. And Advanced Warfare was also sitting at $27 trade in base credit yesterday. So it seems like they lower trade in values when promotions are going on so as to avoid giving almost the entire price of the game back.

What do I show them to price match Radio Shack?

Is the flyer online? Just show them a screenshot on my phone?

Thanks in advance...

I'm assuming pre-ordering online at BB is like Amazon, they don't charge the card until you go pick it up in store? or when it ships?

They charged me when I placed two pre-orders, but it may just be a temporary hold to check whether it is a valid acct and will be removed in a couple days.

I looked through this thread again and finally understand. For some reason it just wasn't clicking with me before.

So I walk into a Best Buy with a rewards card ready. I don't have one, so the first thing I'll be doing at checkout is getting that taken care of. Then I grab the LG Tracfone, then the GCU card, and go to checkout. I'll give them my rewards card first, then the GCU card second, then the LG Tracfone third. The moment the phone is scanned, the GCU gets dropped to $0 automatically. Then I show them the price match for the LG Tracfone at RadioShack.

GCU and phone for $5.

Do I have that all right?

Seeing people getting mixed results with the price match. Wonder why some Best Buy's aren't allowing it?

Also I need a phone. So should I take this phone to T Mobile? ATT&T? Verizon? Off-topic I know, but could still use help lol.

I think you can create a rewards account online at my.bestbuy.com. Then when you're in-store you just have to give the phone number tied to your account.

The phone uses prepaid cards, so I don't think you can use it with any carrier. If you need a phone, the deal is good for most phones with activation.

I recommend grabbing a weekly ad at the front door to show them the fine-print if any trouble arises. I wouldn't have been able to get the deal otherwise.

I went to get the LG phone and it was sold out at almost all Best Buys. I found one at a different store so I ordered it online and when I got there they wouldn't price match it because it was ordered online so I bought this net 10 wireless activation kit (I have no idea what it even is) and it worked. $6.99 no price match no hassle. I got 2 and am good for 4 years now. Thanks Best Buy.

It works with activation kits and not phones? Holy hell...how? If so, I'm doing this on Thursday when I return The Wolf Among Us (PS4) for pretty much the price I paid for it with the 60% GCU trade in bonus applied. I found so many of those at best buy the other day.

I have no idea how it works, it just does. I was pretty shocked when I tried it. I was fully expecting to pay $20 for one of the other phones, which is still a good deal. But you don't have to price match anything which saves you a step of where it could go wrong.

Oh man, if I had known that I would've just gone that route. My local Best Buy was cleaned out of all their cheap phones by the time I got there after work so I ended up just springing for the $30 membership after $40 purchase promo they're also doing. Worked with a pre-order of Omega Ruby after some workarounds they had to do on their end.

Not nearly as awesome of a deal, but I feel like GCU will still be worth it. I didn't even know it existed until I saw this thread, haha.

MOTHER OF GOD IT WORKS

The one you want is this:

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/net10-byop-sim-activation-kit/3859038.p?id=1219093993796&skuId=3859038

My store has been wiped out on the phones, but they had a TON of these.

Same exact process as doing it with the phones, but $7 a pop this time. No fussing with price matching either, just scan at the register and go.

Had to do separate transactions for each though, but I'm good for 10 years now.

It worked! I bought 3 net10 activation kits and did the whole thing on one transaction! 21$ for 6 YEARS of GCU! Confirmed on my account page too!

Thank you so much gaf for pointing this out to me! Yay for 20% off for this console generation!!

So does it matter the order you do this with for the activation kit?

-Enter your rewards phone number first, make sure they pull up the account you want to use.

-Scan GCU cards

-Scan net10cards (employee will have to select and "activation plan" for each, all are $0.00)

-All GCU cards should now be $0.00

-check out!

Also, does anyone know if best buy will match target's buy 2 get 1 sale next week? And if so can you use GCU with it?

Don't think so, but for reference here's what I did.

1. Scan My Rewards Zone card (or enter phone number if you don't have it/lost it.) You can sign up for free at the register if you don't have one already.

2. Scan GCU card. Screen shows $99.99 now, don't panic.

3. Scan NET10 kit. $99.99 goes to $0 and you only owe the price of the NET10 ($6.99 + tax)

4. Laugh your way through the parking lot.

Decline any sort of activation requirement or pre paid plan if they ask. You don't need it.

I did a St. Jude's donation too since I was so elated.

So does GCU work even when new games are on sale? Lets say like Black Friday if a $60 game is on sale for $45, would I still get the 20% off the $45?

Yup. New as in "not pre-owned", doesn't necessarily have to be a new release.

The only thing it doesn't stack with is price matches.

I just bought 2 of those $7 Net10 kits for 4 years of GCU just now. Locked in until 2020 or whenever Best Buy closes.

Doing multiple with one transaction....do you have to scan a GCU card to go with each item in order for it to stack on one checkout?

I'm doing this tomorrow. I went to bestbuy and couldn't find any local, I had wondered if a card would work but didn't have time to try it.

Oh, wow. Looks like I need to add a few years, or decades, to my membership.

I think you can sign up for the rewards online. But otherwise, yes. You have your rewards first. You begin by telling them you are a rewards member (i think its called my bestbuy or something now). Once they look up your info or scan you rewards card you just hand them the phone and the gcu card. The gcu card will first show $119 and then zero out. You pay for the phone and whatever your state tax is and boom, you have a cheap phone you will not use and the gcu.

They may ask you if you want to activate the phone at the store. Just decline it if they do. Dont ask anyone there about it. I did this mistake first and they called a sulervisor and wouldnt process the se. I had to go to another bestbuy later in the day. Hopefully you find cheap phone. Some people are claiming success with activation kits also. You can always try that if you dont find any cheap phones

For people who are My Best Buy members check your email. They sent out their annual mystery reward certificate today that is anywhere between ($5 to $5000). You are going to get the $5 for sure, but at least that means a nearly free GCU membership!

Quick question. Do you have to already be an existing GCU member for this to work?

Thanks

No. Us existing members are just extending until the end of time so we will have 20% off in perpetuity on games or until Best Buy closes shop.

Not everyone gets this email, right? I never have despite being a My Rewards Plus Premium Silver Member (I think that's how it goes?).

They'll match it, but you won't be able to get the 20% off on top of the matched promotion. The only way it'll work on a Buy 2, Get 1 sale is if it's an official Best Buy promotion.

This just worked for me too. Was in Bestbuy for a matter of minutes and there was no hassle. The guy who rang me up asked me where I saw this deal, and then said it was a damn good deal.

Pretty sure he'll be adding to his GCU today too.
