Was posting in the official thread, just wanted to come in here and voice the well-established criticism that the framerate in this game is an embarrassment. I got physically ill from a sustained 1 minute ~6 fps encounter when I was playing with a friend in coop.
What are the chances that Ubi does the right thing and actually pushes out a performance patch for this game? Like, maybe a population density slider or something? What I played looked like it would be fun if it was happening in real time.
Your assignment for the day:
Find credible evidence of a previous game that Ubisoft released that was not optimized and then later fixed it and released a patch for it for the end users. It's OK, I'll wait.
If they made a density slider I would un-inhabit the entire world. HAving shittons of people standing around does not add that much atmosphere for me, anyway. In fact, all the NPCs in Unity are standing there doing nothing, really, except getting in my way when I run past them. Even when I go in a window, all 5 of the inhabitants all do the same pointing animation at me. What makes the ambience feel good, for me, is the world they crafted in the city. The buildings, waterfronts, mud and whatnot all make it feel good. The 100,000 NPC thing is just waaaay overkill. The engine can't render them, the CPU can't render fluid animations with such a high count, the consoles can't render them to be anything other than robots.
I'm not even getting into the companion app/locked chest bullshit or the micros, either.
