Assassin’s Creed: Unity Framerate Is “Atrocious”

Stock 4670k gives me around 80-100fps @720p ultra-high preset in prologue level , and running around city gets just as low as 60fps with occasional drop to 57-58fps as game loads new assets. Usage is flat 100% among all 4 cores for the most part. I would say desktop CPU optimization is best of all AC games yet

You don't say :)

Ok, there is a difference between the CPUs but something gives me the feeling it's preemptive bullshit from Ubisoft to get to spend more time optimizing the X1 version.

This right here is the reason games are released in this shit state. Instead of wallet voting people support this ugly practice even if they are aware of issues before the launch. Guess who deserves to suffer now?

I cannot believe now we have legions in this thread saying fuckin consistent sub-30 framerates have not hit the threshold for unacceptable

my fucking god guys. these devs could friggin' ship a flaming turd to you bros and you wouldn't say it was beneath the line. ya'll are paying money for this shit, and the devs are like "this is amazing. They still will buy it." What's the threshold now? 15fps? Is that where we're going to need to be to fucking turn on the alarm?

I agree. Everyone needs to start waking the fuck up.

You are right, still the non hardcore gamers out there will buy this.
They will have a shitty experience with it too. Meaning they will be disappointed with the game after paying for this shit.
And they will not understand why they didnt got the product they wanted as advertised by Ubisoft.

A game which runs at 20 fps is a scam, of a rushed product because of a major game publisher which only thinks of his yearly cow milking.

Where is the cheapest I can get this game at on PS4 or X1? Thought I saw someone post a digital version on Xbox one yesterday for like $30 with black flag...

Although it says 60fps, looks like frametimes are still inconsistent with noticeable judder.

Yeah I did notice that, but that could be caused by the SLI - I can't get anyone who has the game to tell me, has patch 1.2.0 been deployed yet? Some have said it hasn't - but that is supposed to address some multi-gpu issues so perhaps that could fix the noticeable frame time spikes.

Annual at any cost. I am glad I heard about the specifics of the Black Friday deals before potentially getting this in the B2G1 sale. I wonder how Farcry 4 will be next week.

Was posting in the official thread, just wanted to come in here and voice the well-established criticism that the framerate in this game is an embarrassment. I got physically ill from a sustained 1 minute ~6 fps encounter when I was playing with a friend in coop.

What are the chances that Ubi does the right thing and actually pushes out a performance patch for this game? Like, maybe a population density slider or something? What I played looked like it would be fun if it was happening in real time.

Your assignment for the day:

Find credible evidence of a previous game that Ubisoft released that was not optimized and then later fixed it and released a patch for it for the end users. It's OK, I'll wait.

If they made a density slider I would un-inhabit the entire world. HAving shittons of people standing around does not add that much atmosphere for me, anyway. In fact, all the NPCs in Unity are standing there doing nothing, really, except getting in my way when I run past them. Even when I go in a window, all 5 of the inhabitants all do the same pointing animation at me. What makes the ambience feel good, for me, is the world they crafted in the city. The buildings, waterfronts, mud and whatnot all make it feel good. The 100,000 NPC thing is just waaaay overkill. The engine can't render them, the CPU can't render fluid animations with such a high count, the consoles can't render them to be anything other than robots.

I'm not even getting into the companion app/locked chest bullshit or the micros, either.

Tried to strike up a conversation about this subject today at a local gamestore and the clerk told me everyone one else must have "bad copies" because his ps4 version "has all 60 frames and you can see the cloth flap in the wind." Yeah, I didn't get it either.

The game seems to be a complete technical mess, more so than Ubisoft titles usually are at launch. How disappointing :/

Didn't they patch the PS4 version of AC IV from 900p to native 1080p? Or did that bugger up the game more? I don't know, cause I played it on X1.

Bad copies ? We're missing the missing "fps" ?

Now let's all admit it, it runs and looks like an Alpha.

Somehow you can even feel the X Rebirth vibe in it, crashes, horrendous fps, LOD issues and many more.

Wonder what were they using for the E3 presentations, Quad Sli Nvidia Quadro K6000 ?

So true , where are those days. Remember patches , day one updates , pre-order dlc in ps1/ps2 era? These days , with everyone having internet connection they can release 30 days earlier and get the money faster , not like 10 years ago when they needed to properly polish and beta test the actual games. They shifted from giving quality for money to give us money and F you ok?

The more I play this game, the more I hate it. People are not lying when they say the FPS is atrocious. It's not just outside either. I'll be inside a cathedral, and climbing up the stain glass will cause it all to come crashing down at 15 fps (I assume). It's really fuckin bad. like really bad. And these fps dips are pretty damn common.

The one thing that I don't understand, is that the more I play this game and see all these NPCs, the more I realize how hideous they look. So what is even the point? So NPCs look awful. FPS dips. This is legit worse than last gen Creed games. I 100% regret getting this. I have no idea how people can play this.

OMG I love you all..I've cried laughing

Welp. Ubisoft is due for another "Black Flag" next year I suppose, if AC3's reception was any indication

Wait that could have been cancelled out do to AC Rogue supposedly being a really good game, well of course building off the foundations of Black Flag would do that however.

Hope this doesn't negativrly impact opinions on Far Cry 4 which seems to be rock solid on consoles and PC this time.

I hope it does. That might actually prompt Ubisoft to exercise better judgement in future when deciding whether a game is ready for release, and whether they've made the right decisions from their customers' point of view.

Well so much for ubisoft forcing parity because of big bad Microsoft. Can you imagine what this game would run like in 1080p? Lol.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking. The real truth behind all the parity stuff, was that the game was a fuckin mess and was barely holding together. This was clearly rushed and didn't have the proper time before release. It COULD probably get to 1080p with more time, but in the current state, hell no. It can't even run stable fps at 900p, and it dips to 15 fps and is full of bugs. Imagine them trying to do 1080p and actually trying to tap into the PS4 with where the game was at now. It would be even worse performance.
