Huge SW nerd here. I have no issue with the Lightsaber, could care less.

The trailer tbh did nothing for me. I didnt get goosebumps or chills of excitement, it didn't really elicit any SW emotions. I did not like the cinematography and it just felt like a JJ film.

Im optimistic but I thought this trailer was meh. Hell even episode 1 TEASER trailer was light years beyond this and felt like SW. This felt like a teaser for another JJ Star Trek movie.

I pretty much agree. Except the new "gimmick" lightsaber just looks dumb, IMO. Maybe I will change my mind when I see the whole movie.

Disgusting.

It's Jawa juice.

For a movie that just finished wrapping a few weeks ago the CG looks really good. Can't wait to see the how amazing they look in the final product.

"What if when they replaced the radar dish, they also made it mynock resistant?"

Seriously though, everyone tripping on the broadsaber or whatever.

These are swords whose entire blade can cut through ANYTHING it touches with zero resistance. People are talking about those two little nubs at the end somehow being more dangerous than the fact the whole goddamn sword (that everybody kees twirling and spinning and waving one-handed like a drum major) will lop off any one of your limbs with all the effort of flicking your wrist.

"You're going to lose a thumb with that!"

Yeah, you'll probably lose the whole palm of your hand with a regular one if your hands get clammy.

And in Phantom Menace we all shit our pants at the idea the saber had another jet of atom-splitting laser-plasma or whatever sticking out the other side, thus DOUBLING the possibilities you could de-limb yourself, and nobody was like "That doesn't seem very safe."

Of course it's not safe, it's a fucking sword made out of lasers.

So weird, fans of a film series many consider to be their gateway into fantasy, stumbling over what should be, by now, easy leaps of imagination.

Aren't lightsabers supposed to be impossible to use in combat canonically if you're not a Force user? There's something about how the lack of weight and speed in which you're operating, that you would need the Force to use it.

I don't get the hate for the light saber hilt. That's how many swords are made and it protects the user from having someone slide down the blade with another sword and lopping your arm off.

It has a specific function and I always wondered why they never had one like that before. I don't think it's any more unrealistic than the light saber itself.

Not to mention Regan was all but in TCW.

TOR and KotOR. Guilt by association.

I still think that's a stretch. I think Revan almost being in Clone Wars hardly counts. Besides, I really doubt the nitty gritty of TCW will have any impact on what goes into the new films.

I think people don't like how a normal cross-guard won't cut off your hands if you slip.

As someone who's only really gotten into the "core" things plus the Jedi Knight games I'm not overly sad to see it all go in favor of a blank canvas for more movies. That being said, I totally get peoples' love for the expanded stuff and can see why just tossing it all out would be hard on them.
Intellectually, I can appreciate the EU fanbase wasn't humongous, and I understand why they went for the blank canvas as you mentioned, but it definitely does make me a little sad.

Wondering if the sith could be Gwendoline Christie. Certainly has that hulking, power house feel. She would be a sweet sith for sure.
