Intellectually, I can appreciate the EU fanbase wasn't humongous, and I understand why they went for the blank canvas, but it definitely does make me a little sad.

I know for a lot of people, it defined what Star Wars was to them between the original trilogy and the release of the prequels. That's a lot of connection to lose.

I think people don't like how a normal cross-guard won't cut off your hands if you slip.

Lightsabers shouldn't be treated or viewed like normal weapons. Most people would kill themselves in a lightsaber duel just because of how easy it is to cut your own limbs off.

other lightsabers cut through that shit

there is resistant material in the universe. Thus why I said resistant:

Cortosis, although a rare and expensive metal, was a popular defense against lightsabers. Purified cortosis ore had the ability to momentarily "short out" a lightsaber blade, rendering it inoperable for a brief period of time before the wielder could reactivate it. Lightsabers with Mestare crystals were known to be immune to this effect. Cortosis alloy was sturdier than purified cortosis ore, but was only capable of deflecting a lightsaber blade and not deactivating it. One reason why cortosis was so expensive was the need to refine it. Pure, unrefined Cortosis ore was—for unknown reasons—dangerously ionized and anyone who touched it would be killed instantly. There were multiple methods of forging cortosis armor and weapons, each with varying effects.[source?]

Phrik, was a rare metallic compound that could withstand a lightsaber blade, although unlike cortosis, Phrik did not possess the ability to cause the blade to short out. Phrik was most notably used in the construction of the electrostaffs wielded by General Grievous's MagnaGuards. Other notable uses of Phrik included elements of Palpatine's lightsaber and Dark trooper armor.

Darkswords were an ancient type of sword made from a special material that could parry lightsabers. Unlike cortosis, this material did not possess the ability to temporarily deactivate a lightsaber blade it made contact with

Only thing that initially caught me off guard as looking "out of place" was the Storm Troopers with the flickering lights. But ya know what, hell with it. They look menacing and this new trilogy would benefit a lot if they were menacing as opposed to jokes like the OT.

I actually don't mind the new lightsaber at all....I'm interested in finding out who the actor is because for as short as that clip was he sure put some personality in his walk.

X-Wings and Falcon looked fantastic.

Anyone has a direct link to the quicktime .mov file? Highest res possible

I downloaded it from here, first thing posted : http://www.davestrailerpage.co.uk/

No one using them in this series is comparable to giving a GAFfer one. They're trained, they're not accidentally slicing off limbs all the time.

I'm not sure the sith is about to fight somebody. It looks to me like he's stalking someone through the woods. Imagine a slasher-movie style pursuit scene with a freaking sith. That would be awesome.

The movie that turned an entire generation into cynics

But dat teaser...I know I was hyped back in the day.

Most of the hype was all around Darth Vader origins and to be honest as much of a disappointment as it was, it's still my favourite out of the prequels.

The new one though...at the moment it doesn't feel very coherent story. Just looking cool for the sake of cool. I'm not excited for it pretty much due to the new Star Trek treatments more MTV than Roddenberry.

I hate the Lightsaber. There was absolutely nothing wrong with how lightsabers looked in all the past movies.

There's something industrial about it. Raw, mechanical, but not the saber effect from the other films. It reminds me Narada's planet beam in Star Trek. J.J. Abrams is really stuck on some of the visual nuances from his past films. I was expecting worst like Lightsabers lens flare and maybe a final dual in a Budweiser factory.

The thing that seems to be hard to do is make a film that is distinctively different from just about every other science fiction film out there ... like Star Trek, Ender's Game, Prometheus, Gravity. It's this look. Yeah, a look. Post modern, clean yet gritty, and elegant all at the same time? Always makes me think back to 2001: A Space Odyssey.

The X-Wings, Falcon, Tie Fighters, and Stormtroopers are definitely Star Wars. It's like watching living versions of the Ralph McQuarrie concept art.

Looks surprisingly like a modern Star Wars to me. I just hope it doesn't depend too much on nostalgia for the original trilogy.

The point is the hilt might fit into the wielder's combat stance.

He might be able to rotate the position of the hilt in combat, spinning it if you will.

Ridley looks great but you dont know her, she's the Hayden chrishtihasth of this film

except.. good? maybe? please?

you know, Christensen isn't the worst actor in the world. Not even cumberbatch or James MacAvoy could have done any better with the dull, heartless and campy lines Lucas gave them to work with.

It looks more like plasma now. I noticed it too. It isn't a perfect beam now.

Seems to have a really nice color pallet. Lots of light blue's and oranges. Lots of soft colors. Looks really refreshing. Is that a weird thing to notice? I guess most of it did take place in a desert setting lol.
