No Man's Sky Gameplay Trailer (PSX)

The procedurally generated soundtrack using music from 65daysofstatic's new album sounds fucking amazing.

Everything about this game sounds amazing. An ambient journey to exotic and truly alien looking planets, as you explore, resource hunt, upgrade and move on. All to that drool-worthy, mind melting music.

Even though it was likely to happen anyway, it's so cool to hear him talk about the procedural music! Like wtf man that is sick.

If it doesn't have a giant FOLLOW THIS GUY arrow like call of duty then what's the point of the game???

RAMIREZ! GO TO THE OTHER SIDE OF THE GALAXY!

Was the first part of that trailer a race?

I don't think so. It looked like they started in a space station and landed on another station on the planet. There wasn't really indication of a race. I can't tell if those were other players or not though.

Oh holy fuck, 65DOS are writing the full soundtrack now? Absolutely incredible, even more solidified instabuy for me.

Worth pointing out that 65DOS aren't providing existing music for this, they're writing a full new soundtrack as the base for the procedural music and working with the audio team: http://65daysofstatic.com/2014/12/05/no-mans-sky/ This is just as big news as the game itself for me.

As in, I don't believe you have 'guys' you could sit down to work on anything.

He's a developer that has been in the industry for awhile now.

Anyway I'm excited for what NMS can bring.

I'm really surprised by how big it is. I really couldn't believe it when they intimated that you would have a galaxy amount of planets to explore in. It simply is too much even if each planet is restricted to having only 1 major resource and a handful of types of inhabitants.
Yet that video shows it really is that large.

Maybe it's a mistake but for now I'll reserve judgement until I learn more about the economy and exploring game.

Wonder if Sony made that happen. Guy says its his favorite band and now he has them making the music for his game. Living the dream!

I hope there is a disc release of this. This looks like it would be awesome but I'm still not totally sure what the game is yet so I'm going to have to wait until it is out.

Isn't the more ambitious stuff the things they are actually showing off in the trailer? Is it harder to believe a small team can make a gun to shoot stuff or have planets you can travel to in real time?

it's not hard to make a trailer showing ships flying between planets. we've really seen nothing "real" yet and that's what concerns me.

I'm just cautioning against the hype -- the promises are incredible, the hype mongering is through the roof. I'm just saying -- brace for a letdown.

If it's awesome, then sure, I'll play it and say it's awesome. I'm just saying my skepticism has really kicked in at this point.

People are intimidated by something new. If they don't see a sword or a gun people are confused. what is this game? how can I compare to something I played.

Ok, really, ok...if you don't know what you do in this game, it's not that hard to get:

You explore planets to find resources to upgrade your ships, weapons, and suit. So you can make an assumption that you gather resources using tools of some kind. Mining picks? Maybe. Just picking stuff up? Probably. Killing things? Yes. The combat is very arcade-y, they've said this. Arcade-y means fast paced and not too strategic. If you don't want to fight, you can do the other gathering stuff then trade with people at stations to get the things you need to upgrade whatever it is you want to upgrade. Your goal is to get better stuff so you can explore further. Repeat.

I'm not sure why this is complicated to understand or see. I spent hundreds of hours in Wing Commander: Privateer just doing trading runs. Why? So I could upgrade my ship to do more lucrative trading runs. Is this for everyone? No. But to continually come in and say, "What's the gameplay?" is getting old.

65DOS are a fairly small, unknown-ish band. They've got a passionate but relatively small base of fans, not the kind of band Sony would need to get involved in contracting through big record labels or anything.

Knowing what they're like, I bet Hello Games just had a chat to them and asked if they'd be interested, and they just went "fuck yeah". Probably worth asking them on Twitter or something actually.

They've sort of done soundtrack stuff before, although not to this level. They have a live show they put on occasionally where they play an alternate soundtrack they wrote to the 1972 sci-fi Silent Running live as the film runs.

Another video of them doing nothing. I continue to be confused as to why people are so excited for this.

Another comment shitting on NMS. I continue to be confused as to why people post about a game they don't care about.

I mean, unless you think they aren't being truthful about their game engine we've seen plenty of "real" stuff about the game. The kind of stuff you are asking for really shouldn't be that hard to imagine since hundreds of other games have done shooting and resource collecting before. The game still has no set release date, so I'm sure you'll get the gameplay video you're looking for.

I continue to be confused why people who are confused by this just don't understand that apparently it's not a game for them. That's ok, not everyone likes the same stuff.

I still don't get why people get excited for sports games. But they're really popular even if they really aren't my thing.

Oh, and also, I echo this to you as well:

This looks so amazing!

I can't wait to get it in my hands, experience these worlds, look up on the sky to another planet and tell some other player I've met on the way: "Hey, look up there! That's a cool looking planet... Let's go there!"

And fly off.

Or just relax, flying around, exploring. I hope the OST is good.

Can't wait!

I've always wondered though, is this a digital title or a full fledged 60$, sold in stores, game ?

intimated

Kinda' OT but I just learnt a new word. Thanks!

Keep telling yourselves that guys. That is not what is going on at all.

What is new about what they have actually shown?

The planets look really cool and the concept sounds really cool. I love exploring but what I have seen is not exploring.

People keep saying they are so excited to explore planets that aren't put together with a designer's touch. We have yet to see any real "exploring" or how it works. Flying over random pretty rocks and plants is not my definition of exploring.

Exploring to me for example would be landing on a mysterious planet and then actually interacting with things and discovering things.

For example the following scenario:

Lets say that you land your ship around some plants and the sun goes down. The plants then grow and entangle your ship. If you find a way to shine a light on them then they shrink and you can free your ship. Next you pull out your scanner to scan for materials. A few flying creatures immediately surround your scanner and follow your every move like they are memorized by it. If you put it up they get angry and attack you so you must pull it out again. How do you get yourself out of this situation? Can you use these creatures for anything?

A game like this will not have a designer's touch and cool things like this to actually figure out and discover. It will be randomly generated terrain (based on a set of rules) The above scenario that I made up in 5 seconds sounds like it will be more interesting than any thing you actually do on the thousands of planets in the game (which is sad)

No one is saying you need guns and swords....they just haven't shown us why this game will actually be good yet. They haven't shown any mechanics besides flying around and looking at things. Will resource gathering be boring? Will there be more to it than seeing a shiny rock and then pressing "A" in front of it.

Dynamic music will fit very well in this type of a game. From recent games, portal 2 has this kind of a system and it's really cool.

my main concern is that it will be similar to Mass Effect's planet exploration. Gather some minerals, travel around an empty planet occasionally finding a bunker.

Funny you should mention this, because I've just finished listening to their Silent Running soundtrack, which I stumbled upon after deciding to google 65dos as a result of NMS! What an incredible album.

So not only does this game look amazing, it's had a knock-on effect of leading me to some absolutely amazing music that I probably would never have found out about otherwise.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Procedural_generation

"An extreme case was Elite, which was originally planned to contain a total of 248 (approximately 282 trillion) galaxies with 256 solar systems each. The publisher, however, was afraid that such a gigantic universe would cause disbelief in players, and eight of these galaxies were chosen for the final version.[4] "

So more about publisher nerves than whether or not it was playable, which was the original claim.

That's not exploration, that's Myst or something.
And you've made the exact same type of posts in the previous thread already.

I've no idea who they are, but when i heard the music, my first thought was "God is an Astronaut" so I guess I have to listen to everything they've ever done now.

I also searched the band from spotify but for me this was a case of "bands that have one good song". I really only like the part they used in the trailers and couldn't find any other likable tracks. I'm not really fan of the "post rock" genre and i hope they keep the game music more towards electronic.

Have any trailers shown planets with vast oceans? Mostly I recall rocky surfaces with small streams and rivers. Are there underwater creatures to discover? How about waves (Interstellar scene plz)

They can talk and post articles about what you can do or what your suppose to do. But until they show a trailer that actually shows something beside them walking around and then flying off in a spaceship we don't need anympre trailers.

So if that is Myst then what we have seen so far from No Man's Sky is the equivalent of Penn and Teller's Desert Road.

No. What I posted was a few quick examples of actually exploring plant life and creatures and making actual real discoveries rather than flying over everything.

You might want to check out their version of the Silent Running soundtrack. Pretty much every song on the album sounds like the stuff they've done for NMS.

Exactly this.

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.

Damn, for whatever reason I thought he meant 9 EST when he said "9 o'clock tonight". Welp, looks like I might have to sit this one out and catch a replay.

Who am I kidding, I'll probably be up that late studying anyways.

I've not been following this game. I've seen all the footage from VGX, E3, and TGAs.... Can someone please tell me.... what is the point of this game?

Oh my god, yes..... This would be so amazing.

And I just listened to the band behind the OST... these 65DaysOfStatic guys is a perfect match for the game. Amazing, relaxing vibes.

Speak for yourself. The game's purpose has been explained well enough. The trailers are fine. You should just learn some patience. The game will not release with this little information. PEACE.
