I get everyone saying it looks like a porn house, but if I owned that place I would totally let porno productions shoot there.

Sitting there eating your dinner and suddenly realising that Abella Anderson got buttfucked over the table you're using would be pretty cool.

Or maybe that's just me.

EDIT: Assuming said table had been thoroughly cleaned, but that's a personal preference.

Too bad she's retired.

What could make a home with that much money though?

Location is what makes it cost this much. This house would be a lot cheaper in most places, but a living space like this would cost even more in somewhere like Manhattan, London, or Paris.

Notch likes to throw parties and with this house he will be able to invite anyone in entertainment to his parties.

To all the people saying that Notch should have given that money to charity: Notch is still fairly young. Neither Gates nor Buffet had started their charitable foundations at his age. Unless Notch has a jet skiing, hot air balloon, McDuck-like money swimming, or off road segway accident then he still has a long time to decide to give away his money.

the fuck is it with that tacky pillow

I just realized that he probably paid more for that pillow than I paid for my car.

Illness is the doctor to whom we pay most heed; to kindness, to knowledge, we make promise only; pain we obey.
He can probably afford another home in Stockholm as well.

It is said that Los Angeles is the worst planned city in the world (Stockholm being the second worst) so he'll fit right in. And as far as I know he owns a pretty expensive apartment in central Stockholm. More power to him. I hope he has a ton of fun. Looks like he's living his life as someone like him should. Gratz!

I just remembered, Americans call a room with a toilet, a bathroom. So some of those rooms probably don't actually have a bath/shower in them.

If he wanted to be Scrooge McDuck, that would be the house to do it in, lol.

Yeah, in the listing a room with a toilet, and a sink is a half (1/2) bathroom. A room with a shower, toilet, and sink is a three-quarters (3/4) bathroom. You still count the total number of (bath)rooms though you don't add fractional rooms.

What do you call a room with toilets and sinks? The loo? Restrooms? The shitter? Lavatory? My second grade teacher called it the lavatory.

I dont get the hate, fuck man if I just made 800 million dollars overnight I would go for a ridiculous house too.

I hope he gets a private plane, an apartment in paris, one in london and a vacation house in laku cuomo, in italy as well. That would set him back like, what? 200 million? and he has 600 million left over to maintain everything?

I mean, what else is a guy going to do with money that corresponds with the IGP of a small country?

Such a cliche thing to spend money on.
Yeah, he should've gone Nic Cage with it and bought a t-rex skull and erected his own pyramid in his backyard for his remains to be entombed within after he dies.

Notch still a wealth rookie confirmed.

The only person in the gaming industry even close to to Notch's wealth is Gabe Newell (worth $1.3B estimated), but Newell started out with tens of millions in capital at his disposal as a microsoft millionaire.

There's no contest.

Eh, Mike Morhaime is worth 1.8.

I don't know, he's spending it like an urban youth who just fell into wealth, but even before selling Minecraft he was a multimillionaire and didn't make outrageous purchases (that were made public at any rate). Notch is obviously a smart guy, he could of invested that money into a myriad of startups.

yeah right

and no sex orgies too I guess

Nightly sex orgies, but still no cocaine.

And to teh people whining about spending that much on a house, it's no different than spending $100-200k on a house for the average person. To a billionaire $70 million is a drop in the bucket. On top of that, if he outright bought it's an investment and he'll get his money back should he need it.

I can't honestly understand why someone with the money would chose a pre made house and not build one themselves.

Seems like it would be difficult to build a mansion of that size in LA considering how crowded and overdeveloped it already is.

But I could be completely wrong. I don't live there.

His writing at the time of the sale seems really funny now. Yeah, I just want to return my humble roots as a game developer working on small ludum dare game jams, nothing too audacious. By the way I'll be coding from my marble walk in jacuzzi soda bar on a solid gold laptop.

The cost of upkeep for that property has to be insane. But he can afford that just as well.

If I ever became obscenely rich I'd probably by a nice sized loft here in Brookyln. I wouldn't feel comfortable at all in a giant house.

EDIT: Sounds like he'll be using it primarily as a place to bring a lot of friends and guests. I guess that makes more sense.

Yeah, this is what I thought as well. He's destroying the "humble man" narrative that was built around him. Meh.

How much stake did he have in Mojang?
Result of a quick "notch stake mojang" search:

http://www.forbes.com/sites/maxjede...billionaire-status-on-rumored-microsoft-deal/

Forbes said:
Swedish tax documents from April that were obtained by FORBES show that Mojang, which restructured ownership stakes earlier this year, is wholly-owned by a Swedish entity known as Notch Development. Persson controls 71% of Notch Development through Notch Enterprises AB, according to the documents. Porsér owns 21% while CEO Manneh controls 8%.

At a $2 billion purchase price, Persson would receive more than $1.4 billion before taxes if the deal was paid in all cash. That money would come in addition to payments from Mojang to license the “Minecraft” title he created. In the past, the company’s disclosed that it paid entities affiliated with Persson more than $100 million per year in 2012 and 2013 for licensing fees.

I don't know a whole lot about Notch, never played Minecraft. Pretty much all I know about him I learned here. That doesn't sound like a yoloswag get in a bidding war with Jay-Z for a Beverly Hills party house kind of guy, so I guess I can see why people are confused.

I'm guessing this is a purchase he'll eventually regret (not in the "it's gonna ruin his finances" sense).

I think it's amazing that a guy who developed a fucking java indie game is outbidding celebrities for houses. Good for him, and lol at all the self-righteous posts in this thread.

I would have a railing installed around that place asap. One slip and you'll have a partygoer suing you. Or their next of kin depending on the height of the drop.
